SELECTED POSTS

This page, NEWS & UPDATES which is actually the index page of this website has grown into a huge database of my almost daily ramblings of all stuff I hold dear to my heart, including gossips of the most sordid kind. For your convenience, I have posted a list of posts which I thought is pretty informative in my own way that you might find interesting. The list itself may be long but those selected few are the ones I thought drives home the point I wanted to make. Do check them out in MY POINT IS [Comments & Opinions].

SERIES' SUMMARIES

Sometime in 2004 I began reviewing selected series in an episode by episode way, where I called these reviews EPISODIC THOUGHTS. These thoughts are mostly summaries of each and every episode with my opinion of that episode included in it as well. I may not provide the most in depth summaries but I am very proud of the fact that I could keep the writing on such a long winded basis each and every night for the entirety of the series. I don't do this for each and every series though because it kills a lot of brain cells, mine as well as fellow netizens who often joined in the discussion by posting informative stuff. These thoughts are still open for feedback and discussion. Do check them all out in REVIEWS where it is indicated with an  [E] next to my name.

OFFBEAT STUFF

There is this one section in here that features offbeat stuff that are not entertainment based. The section is known as FUNN STUFF [COMMENTS & OPINIONS].

PERSONAL FAVOURITES

There are 3 sections in here that contain my personal favourites of all kinds. THE DDGs [COMMENTS & OPINIONS] which features specially made websites by myself with info & all related stuff of my favourite stars or stars I like to talk about, MEDIA & MUSIC FILES [DOWNLOADS] which has my favourite VODs and music files, most of them are taken from Chinese & Korean dramas & movies and some of which I am hosting for my net friends and THE STORYTELLERS [WEBSITES], where you'll find stories written by amateur writers like you and I.

Do check them all out!

Poor Tavia but worse ...
Permanent link Post a Comment

Taken from TVSeriesSensation Yummy Yummy thread ...

"news thanks to tanya

translated Posted By: tiramisu

Last Friday on the 10th of December, there was filming for , they went to the streets to get the Scenery. Kevin Cheng, CHarmaine Sheh and Tavia Yeung were present. The scene talks of how Kevin and Tavia has to hold onto a tipsy Charmaine.
Seeing that the day was still early, there were a lot of people surrounding them on the streets staring at the actors, and pointing at them. The men had the most interest in Charmaine Sheh, when not talking of how beautiful she was, they were talking about how nice her body was. (Fit, whatever), as for Kevin Cheng, he was very popular with some (Si Lai)Ladies, Students, and Little girls. Whereas no one cared about Tavia, they had her seem like she was just an extra, afterwards, they also heard someone loudly asking their friend: [Whos that chick in the red top?] When Tavia heard this, her facial expression quickly changed, afterwards, throughout the whole filming, she didn't seem to happy(Canto Translate- Black mouth, Black Face)
"

Poor Tavia but who can blame these ignorant people? Charmaine is more famous but you know maybe the men didn't know that was Charmaine, maybe they were just pointing and saying "ooohh hot bod" and to Kevin the women were saying "that guy is hot!". Note the missing names and all. You never know how accurate these news are. BUT Charmaine is more famous, most famous of the 4 no doubt. Tavia can take heart knowing she is on her way and guess what? I know her and many I know know her.

But what is worse?

Not even a whiff, not even a mention or even a note on the Singaporean counterparts. They don't exist at all! Well maybe except Ben Yeo and I was like who is he? Singaporeans know him though.

It's just so sad. I am not interested to know how huge is his hugeness Mr Lam or how beautiful body Charmaine is or how unknown is Tavia is or how tall Kevin is or how friendly Ben Yeo is. I want to know about You Know Who, I want to know about other people, the plot. I have a feeling Shaun's parts are all filmed, meaning he is just a wallpaper. Nothing else.

And that is the biggest tragedy of all. A complete waste of my energy to devote my time thinking what role he is doing when not even a word. Not one. That is simply not fair, to treat these stars in their own country like a pariah when I am sure if Charmaine was to film a series with MediaCorp, she will have top billing and she will be treated like a Queen when frankly her acting skills may not even compare to sayyyy Jacelyn Tay.

Very upset. TVB, treat your guests right. Again I don't see MediaWorks (though closed shop) looking after the interest of their stars since I have yet to see a report on Yummy Yummy in their papers and all. Such negativity.

Well, TVB or HK press has always been bias towards their own stars. Not only the Singaporean one but the actors from China too. Not only is TVB giving all the lead roles to their own actors in supposely co-operation series between TVB and Country X, TVB didn't even bother to put those actors pictures in their posters (or i they are included in the poster, their picture is just in a tinny square). Like Yang Xue. She was the main villain in the 2nd half of Blade Heart. She was in the series from beginning to end, and her character's action affected all the other characters in a big way. But she was not featured in the poster at all. Furthermore, only she and another Chinese actress get fairly important roles in the series, the other chinese actors all get small roles. The only exception is the TVB-Thailand production, Split Second. That series, at least gave important roles to their Thai actors and the Thai actors ar feature prominantly in their poster. Maybe Thailand demanded that, dunno.

As for Tavia. I hope she doesn't take to situation to heart. I hope she realise that she was not as well known because she has just been promoted recently while Charmaine has been heavily promoted for years. The China people might know Charm but I don't think they recognise Kevin. I think the women just flock to him because he is hot.

I feel TVB is extremely protective of it's own interests. They only aggressively promote their own artistes and those not in their own stables only get a nominal mention. I can't really fault them for it but it's, how can I say it... narrow-minded? They can do it because for the moment, they're the king in chinese drama. Many artistes are willing to be second fiddle in order to have more exposure worldwide in a TVB production.

But I think the main reason why there are very few reports on the Singapore based actors is because Hong Kongers don't want to read about them. The papers writes what Hong Kongers want to read. And Singapore's entertainment reporting is very unlike Hong Kong's. Unless there's something out of the ordinary like Shaun Chen running around the streets in his boxers, Singaporean papers seldom have regular reports on the production while it's filming. Especially when the filming is done overseas. Mostly the interviews are done through long distance phonecalls.

I dunno, I dun blame the general HK media to favour the HK leads cos as what wuchang said, it is what HK audience want to see anyway. But I sort of expected TVB to at least feature or introduce the Singapore cast in their own mag, like they did for Split Second where the Thai cast was given quite a bit of attention in their mag and programs like K-100. Quite disappointed that little is heard abt the Singapore cast other than Ben Yeo who seem always to be featured with the HK leads. Probably Singapore's role is only supporting in this series? And yes, as I've said before, I also expected Mediaworks to have some coverage on the Singapore cast, but there's nothing thus far, and whatever I hear abt the Singapore cast in HK are only related to the merger issue.

Sigh.. so much for all the excitement upon hearing that Ch U actors (esp u-know-who) were acting in a TVB series....

Ok, some consolation thou, is that Yummy Yummy is slated to be one of TVB's major productions. Rumours in HK is that Yummy Yummy will be shown either as Ch U's or TVB's anniversary series, and will be aired in S'pore the same time as in HK, meaning it shld be a very important production for both HK and S'pore. If it is successful, hopefully some focus may shift to Singapore's role in the show after it is aired.
