SELECTED POSTS

This page, NEWS & UPDATES which is actually the index page of this website has grown into a huge database of my almost daily ramblings of all stuff I hold dear to my heart, including gossips of the most sordid kind. For your convenience, I have posted a list of posts which I thought is pretty informative in my own way that you might find interesting. The list itself may be long but those selected few are the ones I thought drives home the point I wanted to make. Do check them out in MY POINT IS [Comments & Opinions].

SERIES' SUMMARIES

Sometime in 2004 I began reviewing selected series in an episode by episode way, where I called these reviews EPISODIC THOUGHTS. These thoughts are mostly summaries of each and every episode with my opinion of that episode included in it as well. I may not provide the most in depth summaries but I am very proud of the fact that I could keep the writing on such a long winded basis each and every night for the entirety of the series. I don't do this for each and every series though because it kills a lot of brain cells, mine as well as fellow netizens who often joined in the discussion by posting informative stuff. These thoughts are still open for feedback and discussion. Do check them all out in REVIEWS where it is indicated with an  [E] next to my name.

OFFBEAT STUFF

There is this one section in here that features offbeat stuff that are not entertainment based. The section is known as FUNN STUFF [COMMENTS & OPINIONS].

PERSONAL FAVOURITES

There are 3 sections in here that contain my personal favourites of all kinds. THE DDGs [COMMENTS & OPINIONS] which features specially made websites by myself with info & all related stuff of my favourite stars or stars I like to talk about, MEDIA & MUSIC FILES [DOWNLOADS] which has my favourite VODs and music files, most of them are taken from Chinese & Korean dramas & movies and some of which I am hosting for my net friends and THE STORYTELLERS [WEBSITES], where you'll find stories written by amateur writers like you and I.

Do check them all out!

The House Of Harmony
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

Or better known as Das Haus Der Harmonie. Why? Because it is a collaboration between S'pore and Germany to bring you a love story between a Chinese girl and her American lover (I believe) spanning 3 generations with actors from Singapore, America and Germany although some posts said the lead is from England. Based on a novel I believe about American and Chinese interracial love during 1920s. You know the usual chinese woman loving cluelessly and waiting for her lover who never return and her daughter almost following her footsteps. Rather tragic and stereotype but anyway why I am very interested in this 2 part series is because of one and only Fann Wong. I care nothing for Maggie Q and I do not know the German actors who I believe must be famous in their homeland. This series has been garnering favourable reviews and is now being sold in Singapore but alas, not Malaysia and I want to get my hands on a copy of the DVD but I need my Singaporean friends for help and frankly outside from the net, I do not have really real Singaporean friends that I can call and just ask a favour. So bummer!

Another bummer is that Fann Wong's voice was dubbed. I wonder did they dubbed her English segments? Because she can speak decent English.

What is amazing about this show is that she plays a 20 year and then a 40 year old. Much news have been made about aging her to look 40 year old. Of course taking into account her character did not have access to ginsengs and bird nests, so the aging must be quite a bit. BUT look at it this way. I saw this amazing clip and I was amazed with how young Fann Wong looked. She does look like a 20 year old, maybe plus 3 years or so but for I think a 35 year old woman (she was born in 1971 I think) that is an amazing feat. So why need to age her to look 40 when I really believe at 40 she will look probably 28 or so? She is one of those few Chinese actresses whom I believe to be more beautiful as you look at her. Her features are not perfect, her face a bit too flat, her nose a bit too small and her past attitude a bit too daunting (now she is like media darling) and she isn't really that savvy when giving interviews BUT she has this beautiful glow to her face, her skin is absolutely flawless and since she put on some weight, she looks fantastic although more weight would be better. She looks great in any hairstyle and I think she looks cute, elegant and very "siu-jeh" like in this video that I am talking about with her pigtails and all. Plus she can act. She can act very very well. I always prefer her over Zhang Ziyi or every other actresses, even Myolie Wu and frankly Fann Wong with a bit of make up and some far shots can even be called Myolie's younger sister! And I like her taste in men, especially she chose a Malaysian man of course.

Anyway what to do? Lucky Singaporeans. Great shows I can never get to see because ASTRO always shows crappy singaporean series and now this. I wanna cry.

Comments
First of all, the poster is amazing. Very strange looking and yet fantasy like.

By now it must be revealed that this movie has no twist like you often see in Night's movies. For me there are tiny small interesting relevant twists but not major one. The plot is simple. A sea-nymph known as narf and calls herself Story is stranded on land to deliver a phrophecy to a writer she has never met. She must return to the sea via a huge eagle before her time is up but before she can do that she is being hunted by srunts, dog-like creatures who are sent to killed narfs. And so it is up to a janitor with a sad past and a motley crew of very varied type of characters who must figure out their purpose in this grand scheme of things before Story can be sent back home. In doing so each discovers their unique place in this world, the world being a small apartment complex.

What I love about Night's movies is that he often takes big issues and shrink it into a small world with very few characters and yet manage to give some powerful insights into humanity. Some may laugh at the words scrunts, narfs, Story or even the fact that Night casts himself as probably the one character that the whole messy thing about narfs and scrunts came about. Truth be told many may see that as ego in the making but you know, Night can act pretty well and I think his character, the writer that Story was looking for who will face a rather depressing end which we the viewers will not see is rather not so much involved. He is mostly standing at the back and the main dialogue and work rests on the shoulders of other characters, mainly Paul Giamatti's Heep.

Each character has his or her uniqueness. You may say some characters are type-cast but I disagree. I have no problem with strong or singular characterisation because that is what Hollywood lacks these days. And what is even better is this story I believe is pretty original and intense. Slow, yes very very slow but like the best dessert you have ever tasted, sometimes taking some things slow will only enhance the pleasure, and Night's movies are such. Even the slowest of them all, Unbreakeable has a message and I am sucker for movies with a message.

Night's stories are heavy with messages and his thoughts about humanity. They're not arrogant thoughts but personal observation of a man who refuses to conform to the Hollywood standards of boring rehashed plots. His stories may not be totally 100% coherent or original, but when it comes to a purpose, like Night's view of humanity and what each individual's purpose in this big world, there is always a message of sort. Hope maybe. Faith maybe. Beliefs maybe. His movies are quite religious, I sense the influence of Buddhism, Hinduism and even Christinity and that's why I love his movies.

Signs remains as his best movie todate. And in some ways Lady In The Water is like Signs. The characters are similar, you can compare the character of Mel Gibson's reverend who lost his faith in God after his wife's tragic death and how he regained it when he saw that no all that happened are pure coincidences and that God has a bigger plan for all of us AND the character by Giamatti who is a doctor who lost all hope when his family was tragically killed and he removed himself from the world and hid in a small apartment complex until he met Story and he began to accept that life is filled with a sense of purpose and therefore a sense of hope for the future. I find Signs and Lady In The Water very similar in theme and because of that however slow this movie was I very much enjoyed the story. Of course Night can't help but take a swipe at film critics but the film critic in this movie represents a section of society who think that they know what role each person plays and therefore what is good or bad for each of us. He could be a manifestation of arrogant world leaders who can't see beyond their assumptions and presumptions that sometimes some things aren't what or how they seem. There are more of such metaphors and interesting characters that those who enjoyed this movie can always come up with their own interpretation, their own views. That is the magic of Night's movies. They're not so restrictive that there is only one explanation and yet not too wide that you get suck into its vastness and get lost in the seemingly endless twists and turns of senseless plot.

Which is a great pity many left without finishing this movie. Watching this movie I admit requires a great amount of patience. You must not go in expecting to see a horror movie, a fantasy movie or a movie with twists after twists. This is not The Village or Sixth Sense. It is something akin to Unbreakeable plus Signs, but perhaps with more symbolism. Night says this is his most personal movie todate and I can see that very clearly because this is like a window to his inner soul, his beliefs. Not many writers and filmakers make such movies anymore with such certainty and such skill. Even taking away all the symbolism and just concentrate on the few minutes of thrills and horror, Night can still scare you and make you jump on your seat. But what is amazing is that this movie also makes you laugh in a good way. It is witty and I find some jokes or rather how the characters reacted very humorous.

But I have my complaints.

For one Story seems to spend an awful amount of time underdressed and under the story itself. She doesn't seem as prominent when such fuss has been made about her throughout the story. The speed in which people accept that Story is unique and a narf is quite unbelievable. The fact that people just follow along the janitor to save a complete stranger who says she is some fantasy like being is also a weakness in this story. Whilst almost everyone seems to have a bit of hesitation in believing their purpose in this grand scheme of things, they seem to have very little hesitation in believing the almost fairy tale like story of Story and her connection to everybody. In fact no hesitation at all. And the ending was abrupt. The only ending we are sure of is the writer, his sister and in some ways the janitor. Maybe I am too pampered with the usual Hollywood storyline of drawing must draw the intestines also. I can't complain much although I wished there was perhaps a summary of what happens to each character in this story and how they lived on after Story went away.

All in all, this may not be Night's best movie or his most profound or his slowest or most boring or scariest or funniest. It is like in between of all that. In my humble opinion, it may be Night's very average movie which for many dissenters translate as Night's worst movie. Which is a pity if many think like that. For an original movie written, produced, directed and acted by one man, it is a great feat. It made me think, it made me jump, it made me cry, it made me question my purpose, it filled me with hope and most importantly, slow as it was, it entertained me.

It is not a messy movie nor is it a great movie. It is in the end a movie that will grow in reputation as the years roll along because this movie requires some slow burn type of digestion. Like Sixth Sense (which I watched again when I heard a producer when accepting his lifetime award I think during BAFTA singing praises and giving the movie the highest praise ever) it feels different to me as I watched it again. It felt profoundly deep, relevant in my life. That is the effect of Night's movies and I am very sure a year from now the dissenters may feel the same away about Lady In The Water.

Watch this movie without any expectation and believe me, you may gain some insights into your own life. Night is still a master storyteller. I just hope for his next movie he does a 100% thriller because this man is also good at suspense.

By the way the musical score in this movie is amazing.

Note
For those who has watched the movie and would like to read a very good analysis on the meaning of this movie, TRY THIS. You will need to create an account first. Once you did, look for LADY IN THE WATER and the scroll to the bottom at the message board and look for The Meaning Of This Movie, Pt 1.

The Lake House
Permanent link Post a Comment 3 comments

I had a day off yesterday and of all movies I choose to watch I chose The Lake House. Probably curious as to how different it is from the Korean version, Il Mare. Truth be told, the Hollywood version made more sense, has a fuller storyline and I think the ending is more touching and moving than that of the rather cold Korean version. You know, I like this movie. It is well acted, well written, well paced (ok maybe a bit too slow but have you seen the Korean version??) and whilst I like the Korean actor Lee Jung Jae Keanu Reeves, a little older is of course yummier. But Lee Jung Jae last seen in Typhoon boasts a more well sculpted body. But the story in The Lake House is much much well written. And the Lake House itself although scary looking but nicer. There is at least a lake in this movie. But it is the ending that is good. Of course there are some big holes in this movie, like how the book Persuasion ended up in her apartment? But there are many romantic scenes in this movie that makes it even more of a love story than Il Mare itself. And it is good that at least Il Mare is given due credit in this movie.

Do watch The Lake House. It's really very nice.

When to admit you're old ..
Permanent link Post a Comment 1 comments

When watching MTV Movie Awards is like running a marathon and the fans screaming is like pure torture instead of fun, when cool bears no meaning and hot simply means I need to switch on my air-conditioner.

I am getting older and older and older and older ...

Anyway if you have submitted your revies but until now I have yet to post it, don't worry I am not that old yet. I am renovating my website to give it a better look, or what the young ones say cool look.

FIFA World Cup 2006 : The many perspectives of the Zidane-Materazzi head butt incident
Permanent link Post a Comment 5 comments

I guess at the end of the day it is all about the angle on how you see a certain thing. I received the following in an email and I laughed really really hard for a very long time. I have seen the email again and again and again and it still makes me laugh. Remember the Zidane-Materazzi head butt incident at the World Cup final match? Well let's see if you agree with which perspective. I quite like the French and the Italian perspective, especially the Italian perpective. The press' perspective is also very funny and quite true. Whoever made these made them very well and has seriously a very interesting witty humorous side to him/her.

Anyway, please don't drink whilst reading the contents below. I am afraid you might choke on your drink.

FIFA World Cup 2006 : A great game!
Permanent link Post a Comment 2 comments

With no disrespect to the great Zizou, you must really try this very funny online game. I laughed as I played! Do tell me how you scored.

FIFA World Cup 2006 : Zizou's story, the ultimate truth
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

Read in several forums who saw the interview who said that Zizou said that that Italian guy kept pulling on his shirt (true) and Zizou asked him to stop but that Italian guy refused so Zizou said that infamous if you want my shirt I will give it to you later which the Italian interpreted as super arrogant and as he walked away the Italian fired back 3 times the insults with regards to Zizou's mom and sister. Specifically what kinda insults neither party elaborated and so I would assume it must have been below the belt kind. So Zizou snapped and head butted that guy. He said he didn't regret his actions in so far as to how it happened because if so it would mean the insults were justified. But he is sorry for all the children who saw the game.

I believe him. How can I not believe him? Apparently his mom was in the hospital when the insults were hurled at his mom. Confirmed there was no insults as to race or terrorist and frankly if there were Zizou is smart enough not to provoke the situation any further because race and religion are sensitive issues. So Zizou I assume restrained himself in revealing what happened and even in tha context, his head butt was wrong but this is to safeguard his beloved sister and mother's reputation. Apparently he is very close to his mom and sister (he called his mom everyday during the world cup) and that would explain why he did what he did.

Which means the Italin revealed only half truths since he said he never insulted the mother. But sister is still as bad.

So mystery solved. I still like Zizou and I still feel he should be able to keep the Golden Ball and be unpunished. If he must be punished, so must the Italian.

One good thing that comes out of this head butting thing is Americans finally paid attention to World Cup (and surprisingly they're the ones who questioned why Materazzi was not condemned at all) and that it highlights one of the worst form of abuse in the sport arena that does not involve physical action but rather the use of hurtful and provocative words. As much as head butting must be stamped out, so must such insults. I don't care what that guy said to him. An insult is an insult, whether to one's mother, sister, brother, race or whatever. Maybe except one's pet. Unless Zizou loves his cat or tortoise. Now that is a different case.

Would you head butt someone if he insulted your favourite pet? Like calling your female dog a (get ready for this) ...

BITCH!

That would then depend on your level of education I guess.

FIFA World Cup 2006 : The aftermath
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

The typhoon came and swept along with it everything in its path. Or so you may think.

Like I predicted, Sir Alex Ferguson said NO to C.Ronaldo's request for transfer or in plain terms, excape from the wrath of the English public. Wayne Rooney insists that he is still ok with C.Ronaldo but was kinda disappointed C.Ronaldo chose to get involved and then wisely summed up the reason because they were not team mates on that day. So Wayne, finally you understood! Figo is still retired, still no news on the Italian football club scandal and ahhh yes...

let me ask you which is worse?

1. insulting someone's mother/sister/race?
2. insulting someone personally?
3. being looked down upon and so that person hurled insults at the person so claimed to be "super arrogant"?
4. head butting someone for being insulted/mother,sister,race being insulted?
5. the head butting incident now becomes the pride of Muslim whatever.

When things get out of hands, things get out of hand. At first the feud between Zizou and that Italian player, Materazzi was personal. Then it became between fans, clubs, sponsors, countries and now listen ... religion. Why must the whole Muslim pride thing must be in every controversy from bombs to suicide attacks and now to insults and head butts?

Zizou said he was insulted, but don't know what insults. Lip readers said he was called "son of a terrorist whore". That's bad. Another version was his sister being called a whore and the Italian has pulled her shirt out. That is as bad. Some said he questioned Zizou's involvement with the French world cup, since he is supposedly Algerian (he's French!). That is also bad. Enough of speculations, I believe it must be racially or family based. Why would a normally calm man like him head butt that guy?

Mr. M of course said he would never insult someone's mother since his mother died when he was young. Which means he could insult someone's sister perhaps? Then he said he is ignorant, he doesn't know about terrorists which implies he must be living in a cave all these years since terrorists are everywhere. Maybe not in Italy I suppose. Then he said he did insult Zizou but those are ordinary insults that are often let off on the pitch. I believe insulting one's mother is one of those oridnary insults. How many times have you heard in a day someone's mother being insulted? Right, many times. It's like a verb. But why is FIFA investigating Zizou only and may even strip him off the Golden Ball award? Since Mr M admites to insulting Zizou, shouldn't Mr M be investigated and found credible, then give him a red card? I mean shouldn't the provocateur be in as much fault, in fact more at fault than the attacker? If Zizou must be punished, so must the person hurling the insult.

And all these because Mr M feels his pride was insulted when Zizou, according to his own account was "super arrogant" and said if Mr M wanted his shirt (Mr M was seen pulling Zizou's shirt, some said even twisting his nipple!) he can wait until the end of the game. Is that such a bad insult that you must then feel compelled to hurl an even worse personal insult of the demeaning kind?

Of course Zizou was wrong to head butt that Mr M, but since Mr M admitted to insulting Zizou, I guess there are two sides to every story. Listen to both and make your judgment.

The world awaits Zizou's side of the story.

Was it a prank or was it really TVB playing the prank?
Permanent link Post a Comment 3 comments

I am not sure if you remember this post of mine about the legal demand letter by TVB to TVBsquare.com (TVBSquare has since deleted that topic so I guess they must have received a similar reply). Well I actually did the following, I wrote to TVB themselves as follows:-

From: A TVB Fan [mailto:atvbfan@gmail.com]
Sent: Thursday, June 22, 2006 8:44 PM
To: TVBPR
Subject: Demand letters from HKTVB's legal dept

Dear Sirs,

I am a frequent visitors of many non TVB affiliated fansites for many years and it has been quite depressing to know that there has been several demand letters (legal demands) sent to several well known fansites such as www.tvbsquare.com and some other blogs with letters such as the following:-

"Your site contains the following videos copyrighted by TVB, please remove them right away. Legal action would be committed if not once removed within two days.

Internet Department,

Jared Ting"

or a more authentic looking letter,

"We, Television Broadcasts Limited, are the copyright owner of various television programme produced by us and of the contents contained in our official website http://www.tvb.com..We are also the owner of trademark registration "TVB" in various service classes worldwide.

It has come to our notice that you are distributing and posting our copyrighted materials including artistes photographs, posters and advertising materials on your website without our authorization.

Your use of our trademark "TVB" in this way may constitute the tort of passing off and may cause confusion to the public and mislead others to think that the activities undertaken in your website is in some way connected with or endorsed by us or that we have authorized you to use our "TVB" trademark in your website.

The above mentioned activities clearly constitute flagrant infringement of our copyright materials and trademark and have adversely affected prejudicially our rights for which we are entitled to take legal action against you and all infringers involved for all damages and losses suffered by us.

In view of the above, we hereby demand you to immediately (i) delete all contents containing our copyrighted materials, all pictures and references of TVB from your website ; (ii) permanently cease to use, copy, reproduce, distribute or upload any of our copyrighted materials in your website; and (iii) assign to us, at no costs, your domain registration

If you do not deal with this matter in the manner stated above, we will take appropriate action to protect our interests without further notice.

In the meantime, all our rights are reserved.

Yours faithfully,
Jane Ting
Assistant Legal Counsel
Legal Department
Television Broadcasts Limited "

All claiming to be from TVB's legal dept and that if the particular owner does to basically remove all materials relating to TVB and assigning their domain names to TVB, legal proceedings may be brought against these fansites owners.

I do not believe any of them has ever written directly to your goodselves with regards to these matters and I am doubtful of the authencity of these letters since I personally do not see any harm in these websites who have done their lion share in promoting everything TVB at no charge but a deep sense of passion and interest since we all grew up watching TVB series. Certain materials such as pictures and posters can be found even through google and several webmasters have been very depressed over the fact of such legal threats over something that could be found basically everywhere.

I would hope to lend my support to your goodselves, if such attempts have been made to ensure copyright laws have not been infringed. It is indeed wonderful to have such check on certain websites but I do not believe such websites should include non profit fansites run by teenagers and those with a passion for your good company's products and series as well as artistes.Basically these are websites that derive no profit except as a hobby. After all it is free promotion and no one has ever been confused of the identity of your official website and the many fansites out there. It would have been wonderful if certain materials, such as pictures, posters, video clips, screencaps and etc be made available to fans to spread around, so as to promote an upcoming series, events, artistes. I believe it will benefit more for your good company and to promote a good relationship between worldwide international fans and your good company. After all where there are Chinese people, these people do watch your series. More so others who do not know the Cantonese language and yet watch your shows with keen interest.

I hope your goodselves will investigate into these demand letters and to ascertain the legitimacy of such claims. If indeed it is not true, it would be great news for fans who unites through such websites and through the wonderful technology that is the internet. But if it is true, as a fan of your shows who regularly gets updates about your company's productions and artistes and who can't read Chinese, these fansites are beneficial to your company and in no way have their use of your materials or your name in certain materials have ever confused me or even cause me to believe they're associated with your good company. Please do not destroy that wonderful relationship and resort to legal threats over mediums that unite your fans to have a better understanding of your good company. Please do not destroy the trusts that exists and the passion that drives us all. It would be even better if your website could make ready a page where it could list all TVB related websites, with certains conditions being met of course.

Thank you,.

Regards,

A TVB fan from Malaysia

And guess what? I actually got an answer!!

Subject: RE: Demand letters from HKTVB's legal dept

Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for your email of 22 June 2006.

Kindly note that we have not authorized Mr Jared Ting to issue any email on behalf of the Station and Mr Ting is not our employee. Only the emails coming from TVBLegal with email address tvblegal@tvb.com.hk is valid.

Besides, you would appreciate that all TVB programmes and copyright materials produced by us are very valuable to us and it is of utmost importance for us to properly protect and enforce our copyrights. We hope that you will respect our copyrights and understand our situation.

Thank you for your interest in TVB.

Yours faithfully

External Affairs Division

Television Broadcasts Limited

Honestly I can't remember what was the email of that prankster and since the topic has been deleted by TVBSquare, I will never know. But to all of you who have received similar demand letter from "TVB", I am sure this reply by TVB themselves are pretty reassuring. So I say play on my friends! We respect their copyrights but the letter never said we must stop!

So all TVB fans out there with TVB websites and domain names containing the words TVB, take heed; do not get cheated by pranks. Like I said, very rarely, in fact never have I heard of TVB taking any action against fans for any kind of infringement other than perhaps downloading series and distributing it for profit. That I will agree with TVB that it is illegal. Pictures and a clip or two, no big deal. So I guess I still love TVB then.

I wonder what happened with TVBSquare though? Matter settled?

Guess This : Make up is good, no make up is bad

When I saw this picture I was shocked. Without airbrush, make up and a sexy dress, this famous sexy TV actress is quite shockingly plain. Why do stars go out of their house without make up and shock us all? They should be banned from this doing.

Guess who she is. Answer will be posted later.

Answer
Most of you are right. So you do know your stars sans make up. I know she is still pretty BUT compare to the full make up picture? Eva Longoria still shocks me sans make up.

FIFA World Cup 2006 : Best 5 Funny Football Goals of all the Time
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

Not really FIFA World Cup related material. But it is about football.

A must watch, 5 funniest goals according to the show who compiled this list. Funny as in ha-ha and also the weirdest goals ever. I agree with no. 1. The commentator was very funny with his a-yo-yo comments. Do have a look.

By the way Portugal won Most Entertaining Team award by FIFA. I wouldn't call that a compliment.

FIFA World Cup 2006 : And so the winner is...

This is the trophy that every footballer dreams of..well maybe except Eric Cantona...

This is FIFA World Cup 2006's winner ...

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Yeah, Italy won by penalties and a 5 out of 5 too. It is a huge morale boost because in Italy right now and especially for the majority of the players you see in this picture, they may be job hunting soon because the clubs they're playing with, most notably Juventus, arguably one of Italy's biggest and most illustrous club is being charged and possibly convicted and then relegated for match fixing. A huge scandal and winning will definitely boost some morale.

This is the man that every paper will write about in a few hours from now ...

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

A day before probably the story would have been about his impending retirement from football, not just international level but from football totally and that this will be his very very last game. He started well, he played in top form and then disaster struck...

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Why the red card? I posted once some time ago that I could hardly believe a mild mannered looking man like Zidane and even Figo could do something awful and guess what? Like Figo, he did something similar. Perhaps head butting your opponent is the preferred aggressive action. Figo head butted one of the Dutch player, but lightly and that Dutch player went flying to the ground. Tonight Zizou head butted an Italian player and he flew to the ground. Mind you it was a very powerful header so to speak. Why he did that? Don't know. I think maybe that Italian player said something awful and Zizou, for all his genius and glorious experience in such stuff, simply lost control. And as he left the pitch which will probably be for the very last time he passed by the trophy he didn't even look at it and it was poignantly sad ...

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Did his head butting in the end contributed to the French demise? A little bit but not much. They in the end missed a penalty that if he had taken it, he would have netted it in. Seeing Lillian Thuram crying like he did and the coach standing there numbed in the face of defeat was hard. What was worst was Zizou was not allowed to come out to take his silver medal and had they win, he would not have been allowed to come onto the pitch to lift the trophy.

And so the career of the most talked about and possibly one of the most brilliant player who came back from poor form to lead his country to this big stage has effectively ended; except that it didn't end in the way most wanted it to. Many papers said he was a disgrace. I disagree. Every head butt has a readon but let's not go into that because this man has done much more for his country than that one head butt, or as I have read several. He does have a violent streak in him, and I guess every player has one, like Figo had one. I am sure tonight's antics will definitely mean Zizou will not get that Golden Ball award for best player whom I think will got to the Italian captain instead. Figo luckily went out of the tournament being applauded, his previous head butt long and forgotten but will the French and the world forget that head butt by Zizou and deny this brilliant playmaker a deserving farewell?

Of course! In the end it doesn't matter. France was not supposed to be in the final anyway. I kept predicting they'll die, they'll fail and look where they were tonight. There is always a loser in a game that demands for a winner. Italy won. It was a great game, fast paced, technically brilliant and and exciting end. I feel sad for Zizou that had to walk out of the pitch that way and whatever that Italian player said to him, although Zizou shouldn't have acted the way he did with that very powerful header into that guy's chest (must have hurt, the Italian I mean) I hope that Italian player should not behave in such a way in future. As for Zizou, the French will still love him although they may be baffled by his behaviour. They may reasoned it out like I did.

In the end it was still a brilliant end (if you ignore that send off and just focus on the way he played) to a brilliant player of this brilliant sport in this brilliantly organised tournament of brilliant everything. I still love him and since he is only 34, he shouldn't retire. He should continue to play for his club at least, like Figo.

So many retired. Oliver Kahn, brilliant goalkeeper. Luis Figo, a brilliant player. Roberto Carlos, also brilliant and very hard working. Some say Del Piero also. But all these are retiring from international football. As for Zizou, he is retiring too, but from football totally and that is a total waste.

Remember him not for that head butt but remember him for his brilliant passes, magical footwork and overall a great performance for a so called oldie.

As for Italy, congrats. I am too tired to watch the closing ceremony, I don't quite care for it since it is almost 6 in the morning. 4 years later the whole thing starts again in South Africa.

As for this tournament, the stadium that the final took place in was built by Hitler. It was impressive, very beautiful stadium. From what I read, the German organisers were great. The fact they didn't boo Figo and C.Ronaldo last night when they played, and even clapped when Figo went on to play, shows how courteous and friendly the Germans were. I am very impressed with the whole thing. Malaysia should learn from Germany on how to host an event.

What a hectic month it was for me. What a great month too. Although all my favourite teams went out, and although a few of my favourite players retired after this World Cup, it was still a great tournament. For one, although no young stars truly made their mark like Maradona or Pele once did, I was impressed with "the diver" C. Ronaldo. Dive all he wants, you can't deny his brilliant footwork and he is the future of Portugal, if he just stop diving and just play. I hope he stays in Man U because Malaysia does not have Spanish league games I think. And even if he has to leave go to Barcelona please. I saw mostly excellent goalkeepers, most impressive were the Italian Buffon, the Portugese Ricardo who was amazing, the Mexican and many others. In fact the quality of goalkeeping is so good, I am sure many would now regard goalkeeping as a job one must have instead of just being strikers and midfielders. But most of all, this tournament proves oldies are still goldies. 34? Nahhh, can still run like 24. Eyesight failing? Nahh...can still pass more accurately than most 20 year olds. Experience counts and this world cup shows it.

What an amazing tournament. Not the best of the best but definitely one of the saddest since so many favourites are retiring from international scene.

This will be my last post on FIFA World Cup 2006. I hope you have enjoyed my comments and I hope you have enjoyed the games. I would have wished it never end but all good things must come to an end.

I read some great quotes on football and one that totally summarise the general feeling of fans, especially during a big big tournament like this is the following which is perhaps the most famous quote on football...

"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that." - Bill Shankly

And so before I end this post of mine, and although I am tempted to post Luis Figo's handsome face in this post of mine, I will restrict myself to these 2 pictures that best represent tonight's end in a more glorious fashion rather than that one single second of total loss of control...

The genius at work...

Update
Great news! Zizou won the Golden Ball award for best player in this tournemant despite the whole head butt thing. Is this the people's way of saying they do not care about the head butt and that Italian deserved it? I read he must have said some racist remark which is intolerable in Zizou's case, the only way to really tick him off. If people can be red carded for pushing, shoving, head butting, then racist remarks should earn a red card too, especially when before each game each team's captain has to read the anti racist campain stuff. Clearly one team isn't reading it properly. Well what a fitting end. Who cares what the English press thinks about this award who kept saying he was mediocre at best. Mediocre my foot! Who was mediocre? The entire English team. Zizou can take them all, alone! I am so disappointed with England's performance and the English media for ignoring the obvious and asking stupid questions like why Zizou won the award, why Figo was in the All Star list and so on and so forth. Clearly they were blind. Football isn't about goal scoring alone. Someone must pass the ball to the goalscorer and evidently England proves that someone can pass but almost the entire team could not score.

Great news for Zizou. I wonder will he ever give an interview about that incident? And the whole English media is still saying he will forever be remembered for that one head butt. Please the world has stopped talking about that head butt and has begun to say thanks for his presence in the World Cup. It is the English media who is still talking about it. I find it very hard to understand why he is made the villain when the real villain was the man who provoked him. Red card that other guy too, shame him into oblivion. Why just Zizou? Head butt or no head butt, I am just happy he got at least one recognition before he ended his career.

FIFA World Cup 2006 : Good bye Figo and thanks for the great pass!

I stayed up to watch the Portugal Vs Germany game. 3 goals (Germany) to 1 goal. Very entertaining 3rd place match which to me is pointless. Oliver Kahn was excellent, so was Ricardo. In fact this World Cup shows the very many talented goalkeepers, no longer an ornament but rather an integral part of a squad. Anyway I do hope Cristiano Ronaldo, very very talented, absolutely entertaining would just stop diving and just play. In the 2nd half he did just that and he is Portugal's best hope 4 years later. For whatever criticisms you may say about him, truth be told he has been examplary for Portugal, diving included. By the way Michael Schumacher was there!

Anyway tonight marks the end of Luis Figo's international career. I was very disappointed that he did not start the game and I thought well maybe his last game with France was a good send off. Why send him in for this consolation prize? Guess what? He did came onto the pitch when Germany I think was 2 goals down (1 goal is own goal by Portugal by the way) and I thought "Shit! Yeah, yeah let him end his international career running in the pitch for 15 min when 2 goals down". Well he did run on the pitch and he showed the young ones how to make a good pass. In fact it was that kind of pass that you simply can't miss, unless your name is Lampard and you're from England. It was an excellent end for his International career. And a great thing that the Germans were more polite than the rest because instead of booing him, they cheered him! And surprisingly they booed their own German somebody in that FIFA something. Quite interesting. Why I like him so? Obviously his looks (although I do agree with one of the online papers who described him as a man having the looks of a priest who heard too many confessions as he does have that grumpy midly surprised burdened look), his voice as he is one of the very few footballers who actually does not sound like some boy lacking in hormonal growth in his voice box, his talent and after watching that youtube clip where the bottles and insults rained on him and he continued to play on in that Real Madrid Vs Barcelona game many many years ago, I definitely respect him. So when the news came he dived and all, I didn't believe any of it. Still don't because I saw those so called diving clips and he did not dive.

And since I don't watch the Italian league, I will never have another chance to see him play. I wish him best of luck at Inter Milan and hoping he will end his footballing career with a flourish.

I still remember him 4 years before. He was impressive but Portugal was really having such bad luck.

Good bye Figo, and thanks for the great pass!!

Oh by the way I saw some online pictures of his very beautiful wife, Helen Svedin who is by the way from Sweden. A very appropriate family name. Anyway can't post them here because they were taken when she was a young "artistic" model and ermmm I can see why Figo is such a happily married man. Just type her name in Google images and immediately you will the pictures I am talking about. The one picture I can post is his wedding picture.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

And tomorrow, it will also be the end for my favourite player from a squad I never liked and the one man who actually brought home the World Cup many many years ago and yes, he played the entire tournament alone because the rest were just there to stand and run around. Zizou, I believe is more talented than Figo but just as respected and well mannered. So when I read he actually kicked a stadium door so hard that the door was damaged, that was a big big surprise.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Who will lift the World Cup? Many say Italy, maybe. But I hope Zizou has a great send off. I hope France wins.

Below a few of my most favourite pictures from this World Cup, that is the France Vs Portugal game. These two are friends having played together for Real Madrid and I am sure meeting one another in other tournaments. You can see the quiet respect and affection. I am still looking for that one picture where they exchanged shirts though.

FIFA World Cup 2006 : Oh Ronaldo, Poor Ronaldo, Why Ronaldo?
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

I just found out that German player Podolski won the FIFA Best Young Player Award, although Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were more popular choices. Messi maybe not since he played little but he was dazzling. Ronaldo (and not Brazil's Ronaldo BUT Portugal's Ronaldo, now England's most hated man) was supposed to win this and frankly based on dazzling performance, talent, yes he should. Unfortunately his antics on the pitch and his tendencies to dive and rants at the referee were all taken into account.

Truth be told, I kinda pity him. England hates him. He may move to Real Madrid which is Man U's loss. I watched interviews of this young player and though he cries a lot, he also seems pretty self assured. And as the night during the France - Portugal match where everytime his feet touches the ball, everyone booed (I swear for once Figo was not booed at) and he seemed rather uninterested in the boos. In fact he ignored them and played even more better, more dazzling, like the Brazilians. So the stories of him being bullied by Ruud Van Nisterooy are rather well, unbelievable. I feel Man U must keep this young talent because

1. ok he played dirty, he dived (and I think this has more to do with coaching rather than his preference) and though he may betrayed a friend as in Rooney, frankly Rooney lost control and he have himself to blame. Ok, he was despicable. BUT it shows he is prepared to do anything to ensure his team wins.

2. BUT also acknowledge the fact that he is only 21. Maradona made mistakes, every great player made mistakes when they were young. In time he will learn to be humble, that playing dirty will not win you applause and when he matures then he will be a great player. This is something even Rooney has to learn and frankly I find Ronaldo far more impressive than Rooney in this World Cup.

3. I admit, he seems rather cocky but again his age. His self confidence is good.

4. Maybe this is his strategy to leave Man U. I am sure Figo must have advised him to just shut up but he blabbed on. So I have a feeling he made himself to be the most hated man in Man U so that he can move to Real Madrid. Of all places why Real Madrid?

So really fans, angry or otherwise, let this kid learn and let him be humbled but don't deny him your forgiveness. As much as what he did was not good and he may have crossed the line of decency, let us not forget he is young, he may have been influenced by his coach, he may have been desperate for his team to win and he thinks he must give his all, including his reputation to earn a win.

I am sure he will learn after this World Cup and after being denied this FIFA Best Young Player award that sometimes, giving his all doesn't mean including destroying his credibility. If he is kicked out of Man U, that is a great pity to Man U because I am sure no English players play as flamboyant and as exciting as him. Why not let him have an English education on manners? Boo him all you want, but sooner or later you must forgive him.

As for Rooney, I am sorry to say...for all the talks about him and his feet and his talent, I see some magical moments but his inability to just muster up and say sorry and I forgive you just shows he like Cristiano Ronaldo has much to learn before he can become a great player.

FIFA World Cup 2006 : France 1 - Portugal 0
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

And so, it shall be France Vs Italy, neither I care about but let's hope for a good finish for Zidane.

Basically a good clean game, everybody played well and the fact that France won on one goal and that was on penalty, Portugal should congratulate themselves on a good job well done. Althout Figo...Figo...Figo should have scored that one header. But I still like him. Tireless, determined and united, all did well. A good end for Portugal who will meet Germany for 3rd/4th placing. I mean better than England AND Brazil.

Anyway the best was the last. Surprisingly or rather unsurprisingly most Portugese player didn't cry. Maybe they expected a defeat but the best was the exchange of jerseys. Only men can exchange sweat soaked jerseys and then wear the other person's jersey. But got to see some fine well muscled bodies thanks to Figo and yes, even Zidane. Poor Crsitiano Ronaldo...why should his future at MU be at stake? He is a talent no doubt although his feet can't find the net. Maybe Rooney should just cool off and stop blaming everyone but himself. The English should just stop bemoaning the fact of that red card. Rooney would never have found the net anyway. And this is from an England fan mind you.

FIFA World Cup 2006 : Wah! Mother of all shocks!
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

Who would've thought; last 2 min of the game during Extra Time and Italy scored twice? Poor Germans. The fans looked shocked and heart broken but well, Italians did play better. The statistics interestingly said that Italians reaches the finals every 12 years and this is the 12th year by the way.

I am still kinda shocked as I expected the Germans to meet the French.

Yes however much I want, hope, pray that Portugal wins, I think France will win. I do not like how the English media is portraying the Portugese team, when in fact let's face it; with or without Rooney, England didn't look like they were doing well and Rooney did lose control. To blame it entirely on poor Cristiano Ronaldo may be understandable but not entirely true. And then to call them actors famous for diving is not fair. Dirty tactics? Well who isn't into dirty tactics? But the Portugese aren't that bad. I hope they win though because I really like Luis Figo and Deco but well...the French will win. No doubt and Zidane do deserve a good farewell but so do Figo.

I am sleeping earlier tonight so that I can wake up tomorrow to watch the game at 3am Malaysian time.

Strike At Heart
Permanent link Post a Comment 3 comments

Or is it Please Strike Me Here, At The Heart?

Finally, finally I sat down to actually watch this series for like 30 min, that scene where Charm discovers Stephen Au just killed her evil father and she used a knife I think to scratch his face, cried and ran and Stephen used wine (of all things, must have hurt like hell because there was this open wound on his face by the way) and then fainted and then...

Let's just say it was a God awful story for that moment with too many modern lingo inappropriately used in a very ancient looking series. Costumes are nice though but the performances; Stephen Au managed to overact, Joe Ma had little to do except to look honourable and worried at this moment, I am undecided about poor Sunny Chan now in what is a secondary role, Annie Man is pretty and Charmaine Sheh...brings me back to the good old days where I thought all her performances were awful, except she was pretty and so very innocent looking. Now she is still god awful in this series and worse still, she looks so darn haggard. Her costume connotes a very young character, her behaviour also someone naive, young, innocent, sweet, nice, kind..you know, virginal, untouched, somewhat righteous and torn between 2 loves, her conscience, her loyalty and the whole stuff meant for us to pity and love her character but Charmaine was simply not it! She simply isn't anymore. I was like thinking why not Annie Man take this role? Why stuff Charmaine into a role that isn't hers anymore and force her this awful series and so she gave half hearted awful performance? Even her crying, sorry WAILING seems awful, stretched, unreal, forced.

The entire 30 min was so awful I am glad I didn't actually sat down and watch it.

I guess I better get back to my football then. Awful. Simply awful.

FIFA World Cup 2006 : So what will become of Cristiano Ronaldo?
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

Maybe Wayne Rooney will beat the crap out of him? I don't think so. Or will it be like it is predicted; that MU will sell him far far away? If Alex Ferguson has his way, I doubt that. I think Cristiano Ronaldo will stay in MU, he will be forgiven (more so when he didn't really do much) and Wayne Rooney will learn to control his temper the next time and England will lift the World Cup in 2010.

It could happen that way.

FIFA World Cup 2006 : After that who picks up the trash?
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

Not really World Cup material. Anyway this has got to be the funniest footballing moment and it is not even funny. Description...

"Luis Figo's first game at Camp Nou after signing for Real Madrid. Lots of objects were thrown at Judas including Bottles (plastic and glass), Cell Phones and Cell Phone Batteries and most famously....a Pig's Head."

You see he was really loved in Barcelona I think and then he moved on to their no. 1 rival Real Madrid. Just view this clip. I think he and the others must have spent more time picking up the bottles than playing football. But he remained calm. By the way this must have been what? 6 years ago? Amazingly nothing hit him on his head. Anyway the shot guy next to him at the end of the clip is Roberto Carlos, who plays for Brazil. He really worked hard tonight but alas, France worked harder. Anyway for such a short man he can really jump.

And for those who thinks Figo is a fluke, I found this clip I think from 4 years ago at World Cup where Portugal lost to USA in a freakish game. This is that kinda of ball control that the Brazilians are usually good at, alas not evident tonight against France whose Zidane was too masterful for them. I hope to find a clip of Zidane's amazing masterful control of the ball for your viewing pleasure later.

Oh by the way thanks to youtube I found this amazing video of Ronaldinho and Zidane. I must say where was this Ronaldinho at the World Cup? Amazing in the video but very muted in the World Cup. Here Zizou may be a bit younger, ok a whole lot younger but tonight I saw some of that brilliance in terms of dribbling. Ronaldinho was disappointing to say the least.

Well anyway even if I hoped for Brazil vs Portugal and it never materialise, well at least this Nike ad offers some tantalising look into what could have been...

FIFA World Cup 2006 : Most unexpected expected results
Permanent link Post a Comment 1 comments

Look at these results ...

England lost to Portugal by penalties of 3 to 2. Brazil lost to France in a 90 min game by one goal.

What happened? WHAT HAPPENED?

Truth be told I have already confessed that I don't mind Portugal winning because England was playing very badly up to that point. But in this quaterfinal game, they gave it their all. But their demise started with Beckham limping off the field (who spent the next few minutes crying by the side because this will be his last world cup unless he emulates Zidane) replaced by a young one who quite frankly had pace but none of the goal scoring abilities. Then Rooney got sent off (straight red card) for of all things I think pushing Cristiano Ronaldo, his team mate at MU by the way. I don't think it was for the accidental step on a Portugal player's groin area. It was after, where Ronaldo ran to the down player nad was urging the referee (from Argentina) for a card I guess and Rooney lost his cool and pushed Ronaldo who went on talking, didn't quite care for the pushing and the referee promptly told Rooney to step aside and Rooney must have thought yellow card but out came the shocker; the red card. I have a feeling he must have sweared at the referee which explains the red card because the push itself was harmless and severe for a red card. Now Ronaldo must be the most hated man in England. Wasn't his fault anyway. Rooney shouldn't have pushed him. I think this was the same referee who sent Beckham off some years ago for lightly kicking an opponent which was an offence because it was like revenge kinda act, lightly or with force. The referee also made a mistake by being too severe. Even if Rooney stayed on, frankly he wouldn't have done anything. He was quite mediocre. Anyway the referee was ok but at times a bit blind. I think one incident the Portugese player was faking it by rolling on the ground. He should have been booked.

Even Portugal was mediocre except for some great passes from Figo. By the second half, the game was like amateurs vs amateurs because Figo was out too. It was like reserve players playing a very non happening game although it was enjoyable. I was numbed because 10 men also Portugal can't score. Not for the lack of trying but England's defence was solid, and so was Portugal. Just no finishing touch.

Come penalty time. I can't believe why Lampard was chosen to deliver the penalty. I mean he had 20 chances throughout the tournament to score and he MISSED each 20 chances big time. So predictably he missed again. Of course Portugal's 2 players missed, which meant England had a chance until again Gerrard. Why him? You should have seen his face when Lampard missed. He looked exceedingly worried and with so low confidence, Portugal's excellent goalkeeper Ricardo easily saved that one. Of course Ronaldo kept it in, which confirms his status as England's most hated man.

My sister had a theory about the whole Rooney incident. The commentator was saying that was it was a harmless push, moreover they're team mates so that pushing might have been just in jest, like buddy type. I disagree. My sister was right; Ruud Van Nistelrooy famously bullied Ronaldo at MU, or so the rumours go. Usually team mates do not push each other. This time Rooney did it, maybe he didn't quite care for Ronaldo. The confirmation came when vefore Rooney was booked, I saw Rio Ferdinand pushing Ronaldo away too. I am sure Rio is with MU. Which means Ronaldo isn't very much respected in MU anyway. He's bullied which explains Rooney careless disregard for his opponent aka his team mate. Who to blame? Rooney for losing his cool. He was tackled by 2 Portugese and should have been given a free kick. He should ahve shut up. He didn't, he pushed, he must have retaliated with words and so there goes the red card. Referee also too severe.

But in the end even with Rooney I doubt he would have made an impact. It ended painfully with penalties which was very heart attack moment for me. Where it matters most, England lost. Maybe Beckham should have stayed on, limped by the goal post and just do the job when need during free kicks and then go back to resting by the goal post. When he went out, and then Rooney, then Figo was replaced (he looked exhausted), the entire game because a bit like 2nd rate players vs 2nd rate players.

The man of the match was Ricardo the goalkeeper for Portugal. He was excellent. In the end Portugal made a historic win and frankly I am happy for them. Like I said before whether England or Portugal goes through it doesn't matter to me. I like Luis Figo who today shone some bright masterful moments.

Funny. I was thinking perhaps it would be great if Portugal meets Brazil who I was convinced was going to win. Think about it. Brazil's coach won I think the World Cup before. Portugal's current coach, Scolari a Brazilian also won a world cup before leading Brazil. How classic would that have been if these 2 coaches square off in the semi finals? I just have this feeling the English public had more respect for the Brazilian than their own Swedish coach.

So adios England. I am numbed. Saddened, numbed but expected this. Rio Ferdinand was crying buckets. Luis Figo was happily singing away. Cristiano Ronaldo? Probably planning an exit from MU to Real Madrid. But he is a very good player and very fit.

Next game we will have Deco back on the field. I think he is a good player.

Shocker was Brazil versus France. But then it was expected. Lavish with too many compliments and too may good players that the coach did not know what to do with them and changing of policies from playing total attacking flamboyant football to the boring defensive plus attacking football with no style whatsoever, surely Brazil could lose.

And they did. One consolation; Ronaldo now the highest goal scorer in World Cup history.

Now France. Bombarded with so many criticisms with insults like old men of the team and such, suddenly Zidane and gang woke up and played a good game against Spain and then played a masterful game at Brazil. Brazil looked tired, haggard, not in the game although they had skills. France on the other hand played with such spirit, energy and with such skills, they deserved to win although except for Zidane I don't like France. Zidane was inspirational. He had such skills, such flamboyance in the way he passed the ball, perhaps suddenly the Brazilian spirit must have entered him and left the Brazilians. I have never seen such brilliance in passing of balls except for tonight, where he used his head, chest, knee and foot to pass the ball all in one continous motion. The other great one I saw was Figo with his very accurate delivery of the ball to his team mate. However the Argentinians still have the honour of scoring the most beautiful goal in World Cup this time.

But sadly; talented Argentina is out. Giant Brazil is out. Dependable England is out. Left behind is the rejuvenated France, the very happy and eager Portugal whom I wish will go further in this tournament because I really like Deco and Figo, the boring but well only results matter Italy and of course the younger Germans. Could it be the Germans who lift the trophy this year? Probably. Or it could be the French if they continues to play with such zest and Zidane would have the perfect swansong. Or maybe play it safe Italy? Or probably Portugal?

Whoeever it may be, England will have a lot to say about tonight's game. I personally think Lampard and Gerrard as well as Rooney who has some flashes of brilliance as mediocre at best because where it matter they failed. Red card or no red card. Brazil? I wonder what happened...

FIFA World Cup 2006 : Don't cry for me Argentina!!!!
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

Sad but true; the technically skillful team has crashed out of the World Cup because where it matters, they failed. Such as ...

1. not putting in playmakers or strikers

2. not getting in the goals where it matters

3. penalty time, those who should score didn't and those who should have been in there wasn't

4. coach made tactical mistakes

5. referee was a tad biased; seems to be on the German's side, but very subtle but also very noticeable

6. Simply not Argentina's day.

Poor Argentina. I am sure 4 years later they will do better. Not that the Germans were great.

Anyway I wonder why there was a fight at the end of the game? Something about German Bierhoff said that triggered the fight. I mean win must win graciously, lose must lose graciously. All these fights...why ah?

Later today will be England Vs Portugal. Either side losing is dreaded by me, either side winning is great news to me. But somehow, I just feel England should lose. They have played poorly, much too relaxed and let their shopaholic wives and girlfriends dominating the news with how many branded handbags they can buy. I find that distasteful. But Portugal does not have the luck whilst England seems rather lucky. Anyway whoever wins will meet either the slowly awakening but still quite poor performance Brazil or the suddenly rejuvenated French. I think Brazil will meet Portugal or England and frankly I am done with predictions.

As for tonight, I think Italy will get through to meet Germany. Both very physical, very healthy, very energetic and prone to some dirty tactics.

Anyway I can't believe Argentina lost. I think Maradona must be having a heart attack now.

(sing to the music of Don't Cry For Me Argentina)

Don't cry for me Argentina,
We were never going through
Not through all these bad passes
Through all these players
We didn't deliver
There goes our promise

So I guess now is the time to achtung the German?
