SELECTED POSTS

This page, NEWS & UPDATES which is actually the index page of this website has grown into a huge database of my almost daily ramblings of all stuff I hold dear to my heart, including gossips of the most sordid kind. For your convenience, I have posted a list of posts which I thought is pretty informative in my own way that you might find interesting. The list itself may be long but those selected few are the ones I thought drives home the point I wanted to make. Do check them out in MY POINT IS [Comments & Opinions].

SERIES' SUMMARIES

Sometime in 2004 I began reviewing selected series in an episode by episode way, where I called these reviews EPISODIC THOUGHTS. These thoughts are mostly summaries of each and every episode with my opinion of that episode included in it as well. I may not provide the most in depth summaries but I am very proud of the fact that I could keep the writing on such a long winded basis each and every night for the entirety of the series. I don't do this for each and every series though because it kills a lot of brain cells, mine as well as fellow netizens who often joined in the discussion by posting informative stuff. These thoughts are still open for feedback and discussion. Do check them all out in REVIEWS where it is indicated with an  [E] next to my name.

OFFBEAT STUFF

There is this one section in here that features offbeat stuff that are not entertainment based. The section is known as FUNN STUFF [COMMENTS & OPINIONS].

PERSONAL FAVOURITES

There are 3 sections in here that contain my personal favourites of all kinds. THE DDGs [COMMENTS & OPINIONS] which features specially made websites by myself with info & all related stuff of my favourite stars or stars I like to talk about, MEDIA & MUSIC FILES [DOWNLOADS] which has my favourite VODs and music files, most of them are taken from Chinese & Korean dramas & movies and some of which I am hosting for my net friends and THE STORYTELLERS [WEBSITES], where you'll find stories written by amateur writers like you and I.

Do check them all out!

Yesasia.com TVB Survey
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

No kidding, I received this email yesterday ...

Dear Webmaster,

My name is Vincent Au, and I work as a Marketing Executive at YesAsia.com. We are an authorized online retailer for TVB dramas, and are interested in knowing if people might be interested in seeing TVB Dramas with English subtitles on DVD.

We are approaching sites like yours to help us spread the word to TVB fans worldwide. We have created a survey asking if people would be interested in seeing TVB Dramas with English-subtitles on DVD. The survey results will be delivered directly to TVB, so your input could make a difference! Please help us promote our survey, as it could truly benefit TVB fans worldwide!

You simply can upload our banners (as attached) and link to the following URL:
[The banner on the right at the top is a clickable image. A new browser window will open] (Funn)
Participants of the survey will receive a coupon good for an extra 10% off when purchasing TVB dramas at YesAsia.com.

Also, YesAsia.com currently has a TVB Store featuring a comprehensive selection of TVB dramas with descriptions and reviews: Yesasia.com TVB Online Store

If you wish, you can link to our TVB store and earn immediate commissions on sales of TVB products through your website.

For more details, please refer to our Associate Program [A link to the programme here] (Funn) , or you can simply reply to this email.

Best Regards,
Vincent Au
vincenta@yesasia.com

And I thought TVB dramas for sale have English subtitles, I really thought so. So I checked out the link and it's real! I got the 10% rebate which is not much because we all know how expensive TVB VCDs are but let your voice be heard. Do take the survey and you can only take ONCE only. Which is why I put that banner at the top for the time being as my bit in bringing a small change in how you may get to watch TVB dramas in the future. The banner will be there for awhile I guess and then I will put back my own banner later. I am also applying for the Associates programme because I was very impressed with the TVB online store. They're gettting more titles now. But so many questions and the one I found most difficult to answer was "How many visitors your website gets in a month?" and I was thinking "Yeah lor, how many?". So difficult. Anyway, check out the survey will ya. I am not getting any commission for this but you know the email from Mr Vincent Au was so polite, I was rather impressed you know. I know, I am a fool for politeness and the fact Yesasia.com knows of this website. But really, do you want English subtitles?? I think it will be great but then I know Cantonese. But I find it redundant if I know Cantonese and there is Chinese subtitles. Not like I need to read it! I also propose for Vietnamese and Thai subtitles since there are loads of TVB fans there. They shouldn't suffer poor dubbings. Must always watch and hear the real voice. Which is why quite a lot could never understand why I was always so critical with Charmaine Sheh and now Shirley.

Flash Paper Dolls
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

I don't know if you remember those paper dolls where we cut out the dress and like hang it on the paper doll? Now it's cyber age and I found this great site where you can play flash type paper dolls called DRESS UP DOLLS. I am definitely recommending this site BUT I must warn you, some contents there are X-rated. I wasn't interested in those and HONEST I wasn't. I was very impressed with the artwork, the naked ones included and the special effects that can be x-rated. Those who can stomach such things, may want to have a look. They even have online Sims Dating games which I do not recommend because of their contents and their difficulty level. But do check out the rather interesting paper dolls flash games, very addictive, whether x-rated or no x-rated. I marvel at the fact that this can be created. I wonder how?

A tip. Usually you have to play online. But you can download the small files (anywhere between 400kb to 2.5mb) by simply clicking on the PLAY GAME or something similar, a window will pop open, wait for it to load a bit then aim your mouse somewhere extreme left, top, down or right and right click and choose VIEW PAGE SOURCE or similar. Another window will pop open with the HTML codes. Click FIND in the Edit button up at the top, type the word uploads into the search box and uploads will be highlight. Highlight the entire http://uploads......swf and open your down manager and download away to play offline!

The specific one that I am talking about is in Hentai Dress Ups but I MUST WARN YOU all pages contain from mild nudity to extreme nudity and beyond. Choose wisely.

Click HERE for the site. Ignore the rather well endowed hentai toons. They have other clean cut games too.

Then do come back to this post and share with me which is you favourite dress up dolls download and why. I will tell you which I find very interesting, x-rated included!

AI 4 : Announcement
Permanent link Post a Comment 1 comments

After what happened in the last episode, I have decided to stop watching AI4 altogether. My bet is Bo Bice as the new AI idol but you know what? Who knows..who knows indeed...someone told me Constanstine already got a record deal and for that I am very happy but right now forgive me for my shocked cries...my heart feels no joy but the deepest sorrow of his departure..not even Shaun Chen in To Mum With Love could cheer me..not even watching Lost could make me smile tonight..not even the fact that the visitors' counter has been jumping so much that the number between yesterday and today is like plus 100 hits...which is something I should be very happy about but somehow...joy gone..just sorrow. Won't evn ask why...thanks for the newsflash in the Shout Box. Any more happy news do post it there..happy like rejected idol wannabes getting recording contract is good, a great new scan (if any) of you know who would be great and something happy that you wish to tell me, anything at all would be excellent.

Sighhhh...

SPOTLIGHT : Check these series out!
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

Fans of Shaun Chen may like to know that his very old series, the one before he got booted out of MediaCorp called To Mum With Love is showing on NTV7 (ASTRO Ch 7) weekdays at 3pm with repeats at 12.30am. Right now as of this moment it is only on the 2nd episode, he just showed up and frankly his role is well a playboy. Not a big role but this series is interesting in that it features not just one gorgeous Malaysian man but TWO, the other being Christopher Lee, playing the lead as the rich guy in love with the wood, Michelle Saram who even in her own native tongue can't act at all. Shaun's voice is not dubbed and it sounded quite alright which makes me wonder why dub him in Holland V? This series is interesting to me because of him lar and the fact that he is wearing glasses, making him look like a bona fide smart person but for his oh so ugly suits. Changing Lanes THIS IS NOT! He should be in Healing Hands 3!

Anyway do have a look. He will be in the next few episodes before he will of course be written off as a jerk in this series.

On the same note his BIGGER role where is like the lead there that is Holland V is still showing on 8TV (Ch 18 on ASTRO) like 3 times a week at 5pm. This way this series will go on forever. He should still be in the series if you watch now and believe you me, I still love him best in Holland V as the super cool, super smart, super successful and super understanding but not so super compromising Richard Yu! I got a review on this series in Reviews : Singapore.

You can find screencaps and more info at my Shaunsation website.

Awful Plastic Surgery
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

Interesting website, exactly as the title of this one. Thought you might be interested although it is an open secret about Britney Spears you know. It's really not awful at all since it is not about botched surgeries. It is just a personal opinion of the webmaster that fake breasts are awful. I tend to agree when like Mariah Carey, she already has big ones and yet it's bigger now. What's with big breasts anyway?

It works but the thing is something is wrong with the template so the search results are at the bottom of the page. Until I fix it, I apologise for the odd look.

Update : I just changed the search box in this very page. I am trying out Google free search service.I actually kinda changed the Google code a bit and I am very sure I will receive a notice soon enough but can't help but change here and there a bit and I discovered the search results in Google webpage IS confined to the searches IN MY WEBSITE. It works!! Yeah! If I add the logo my whole webpage looks wierd. Try it out. It even works for all pages WITHIN my website and quite updated also!

Shattered illusions
Permanent link Post a Comment 2 comments

This screencap was taken from the series Beautiful Illusions and it was very frightening for me. I am a big big fan of Fann Wong, I watch even her travel shows and I love them all. I always thought she is THE most gorgeous Asian/Chinese woman there is and for someone who is 34 (as some said she is) she looks at least 8 years younger, when she is not smiling. And then this picture...

Shattered illusions! Remember Samara? This is Samara when she grows up! What happeneeeeed? Why even in swimming pool must put so much foundation? Or was it the click and snap action just so happened to get the worst picture then??

But luckily a nicer picture. Can never imagine Fann Wong as someone chubby but she was. And proof that she never did anything to her nose, not that anyone is accusing her of doing anything at all.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

And last but not least, I know she is tall and she is thin. I always know beneath those gorgeous fair flawless skin is well, flat. But surprisingly, she may be flat but she isn't as thin as I thought she would be. At least look at her back profile, got skin, got flesh though flat. Very flat. But nice skin. Still flat. Actually her face is also flat. But why I feel she is THE most beautiful Asian/Chinese actress is because she radiates this glow, very rare in others.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

By the way I saw her travelogue shows via Ch 18 on Thursdays 5pm (like once in a while when I am not working) and I must say her English in that show is 1000 times better than when she was being interviewed during Shanghai Knights promo. Was the travelogue before or after Shanghai Knights? And confirmed, she even pronounces her name as FUN Wong but I really do think FAN Wong sounds so much more Fann you know.

No wonder once in a while I receive emails asking me if Fann Wong is my MOST favourite Asian actress and I always replied yes and they always say thought so because of my name FUNN Lim and I always wrote back Funn is my Chinese name and I didn't name myself after her though the additional N was to counter the cheesiness of FUN Lim and now I know why...I repeat, though I am a fan of hers, I don't go to that level to name myself after her. I wish I have her skin, I wish I have her money, I wish I have her success but her name? She is not even really Fann and Miss Wong you know. So confusing!

Anyway I shall banish that UGLY picture from my thoughts by reminding myself of her beautiful images in Shanghai Knights. Can't believe such ugly pictures could exist!

By the way anyone from Malaysia ever seen the Illustrated Auto Biography by Fann Wong selling anywhere? I have been looking for it for ages and I have a feeling it may be only sold in Singapore. My birthday which is coming soon by the way - I want that book. Anyone who knows me in real life, read this...birthday wish list apart from all thise things I mentioned in person, please add this book into the list...Sighhhhh...

AI 4 Dance Theme : Shocking results
Permanent link Post a Comment 4 comments

I don't believe it!!! Anwar is OUT! Anwar! I mean I expect him to stay for maybe 2 more shows. I expected Scott, then Anthony, then Anwar. But Anwar, out! What happened? Unpleasant as this may sound, there is a theory. His name, Anwar. I believe that's the deciding factor. But he was so sweet, he took defeat smiling, looking very gracious in the face of defeat. Now my prediction.

Next week Scott, then Anthony, then Vonzell and top 3 will be Carrie (who should be out for the Dance theme but well she did better overall), Bo and Constanstine. I have a feeling either Bo or Constanstine will be the new AI. I hope Constanstine. But you know Vonzell may still stick around to be top 3, so for me Carrie will be out.

Truly shocking. And Ryan Seacrest announced it sooo fast, the shock came only when the credits rolled.

Still shocked. I mean he is boring and predictable but out so soon? Shocking!

Recommended TV Shows
Permanent link Post a Comment 3 comments

TV series, quite a few. Only for those who has ASTRO or is living in Malaysia. All highly recommended by me and for those who doesn't rent TVB series anymore, some suggestions to keep you company when you're at home with nothing much to do.

For one, CSI is still the best, CSI : Miami the worst, and now CSI : New York, somewhere in between. Very illogical plots that one with many bad actors (check out that wood who plays the young detective forever in some black leather jacket) BUT Gary Sinise was the reason why I watched it and the reason I will continue watching. I always thought Gary Sinise as someone intelligent, someone humble, someone wholesome, great actor, always there BUT only in CSI : NY did I see him in a new light; I find him exceedingly good looking in there and his character with nicely cut suits and intense looks, he was rather sexy, an intelligent thinking kinda man. Really CSI did him justice but the plot...can do better lar. His acting though is superb. Like I love the character Grissom, same way I feel about his character. Watch it for Mr Sinise, in a whole new light. Showing every Tuesday at 10pm ASTRO Ch 17 and repeats on Wednesdays 11pm and Sundays 2pm I think.

The next one is Lost by I think the creator of Alias. The lead actor looks like Adam Sandler, only better looking. The rest of the cast are mostly unknowns but you have seen them somewhere, like well the most famous is the Hobbit from The Lord of The Rings. The story is intriguing, revealing a little about each character week by week, acting quite alright but it's the storyline that's compelling. Definitely worth following. Showing every Thursday 10pm ASTRO Ch 17 I think.

What else? No more Absolutely Fabulous, replaced with The Office, don't quite like it. After a while it's not funny anymore, just annoying.

Chat shows one that must be watched is Parkinson on Sundays Ch 70 9pm. The episode featuring Will Smith was really very revealing AND very funny. The other is The Kumars At No. 42 on Sundays 7pm Ch 70 with repeats on Saturdays 11pm. You can basically not watch all other chat shows after watching these two because the American counterpart seems lifeliess and shallow in comparison. For one, Parkinson is my favourite chat show host now.

Then there's Air Crash Investigations on Ch 52 every Tuesday 10pm with repeats on Sundays 7pm. You must watch this one as I have been repeating quite often. Check out also What Not To Wear on local channel 8 (ASTRO Ch 18) on I think Tuesdays 11pm. I love the sarcastic Trinny and Susannah but I must admit, they were right about what not to wear and what to wear. If you see a repeats on Human Mutants on Ch 50 ASTRO, do catch them since they were scary BUT educational and very revealing in how we see ourselves. I also love watching Screensavers on Ch 13 TechTV which is everyday 10pm I think as I think the young host Kevin Rose knows what he is saying and to me he is the most unnerd of all nerds which is how a computer genius is called, unflatteringly if you ask me. I am a fan of his and I find his explanations indepth but quite difficult to follow but still educational.

Quite a few more shows out there that deserves to be watched, at least once if not weekly. Like the Food Programme on Ch 30 ASTRO on Sundays 8.30pm by the renowned Tou Tou. Delicious but scary the way he eats. I enjoyed his segments with Fiona Yuen who is now replaced with someone who eats as much but not that good in conveying her opinions on the food she tasted.

Then there's Saturday Night Live on Saturdays Ch 91 11pm but watch that once in a while since it is like 4 year old you know. The jokes are still funny but not that relevant. The best are those on the election and Bush and Kerry of course. But that time clashes with Kumars At No. 42 so I often switch back and forth.

Sometimes I watch back old series like Yesterday's Glitter on Ch 34 ASTRO on Saturdays for few straight hours. So much more better than PONR, acting superb but you can only take in so much tragedy in one day you know. Nowadays the old shows shown on Ch 34 (TVB series) are mostly very good series so any one of them is worth a watch. I plan to rewatch Burning Flame.

Ch 30 ASTRO that is current TVB series is kinda boring right now with 8.30pm weekdays we have Summer Heat. A series with a serious identity crisis. For one, the title sounds like some teen series on some beautiful beach with bikinis and all, the Chinese title sounds like some comedy horror story, the themesong sounds like some light hearted series and yet the series is very serious series about death, murder and investigations. Very confused series.

9.30 pm weekdays we have Net Deception. Disappointing and I stopped following it closely since I have other shows worth watching and even Wong Hei and Myolie Wu can't save the illogical story. It has its moments, but too little. I have never seen such bad police work if you ask me and this series has that every night!

Then there's American Idol 4 every Wednesday 8pm and results on Thursday 8pm. A must watch for me.

What else?

I think that's about it. Are you watching any of the series mentioned above? Do drop a note to tell me your opinion of them.

Air Crash Investigations : Alaska 261 (2000)
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

This documentary, by National Geographic Channel has got to be one of the best ever. Remember the Avianca tragedy? I thought that was bad, a plane running out of fuel, crashing until I saw this one. The acting was superb, superb, superb and the emotions raw. Never had I seen the family of the pilots being interviewed but the victims' family were interviewed and in the 1st 15 minutes this documentary said what was to happen was beyond belief. I quite believe it so because nothing shocked me anymore after Avianca but you know, it shocked me, really shocked me that a plane can go down because of no grease added to a screw. One screw and it was as recent as year 2000!

The flight was I think from Mexico or somewhere bound for LA. It was only a 3 hour journey, and there were 88 people on board. The airline was Alaska (and remember this name because you will know why), a very reputable one it seems. Anyway halfway through the flight, 2 very experienced pilots noticed something very wrong with the plane's stabilizer (this plane is unique in the sense it's winged tip tale is the plane's stabilizer, pull it up and the plane's nose dives down, pull it down and the plane's nose dives up, like a balancer) because it was stuck. The pilots called the maintenance crew on the ground and there was no reply to their problems. When they finally succeeded in pulling the switch for that stabilizer thing which was still stuck, the plane suddenly nose dived so hard the passengers were flying all over the place. The pilots tried their best to stabilize the plane and again called the crew and guess what? The crew said you can try to do it your way or any way, meaning the crew didn't know how serious the situation was. THe great acting here were the pilots looking at each other like "Can you believe that response?". So the pilots were on their own and the plane still dives downward but somewhat under control but the plane was going very fast because the pilots didn't know what will happen if they slow down. It was going very fast, and the pilots managed to call LA control tower and requested that the certain altitude the plane was maintaining to be free from other planes and LA agreed. So they tried to work things out and the pilot, doing everything that their experience taught them even asked the tower to divert them to the ocean area. The reason, the documentary explained was because to avoid air traffic and just in case the plane ever crashes, it won't crash into the public area or into other planes. I was amazed by the pilots' professionalism and caring attitude. So there they were trying hard to control the plane to stabilize it when suddenly the whole stabilizer blew off! So the last moments of the planes were spinning like gasing and flying upside down, the passengers terrified to their very spine and the pilots kept fighting to control the plane until the plane hit the Pacific Ocean and smashed into pieces. Bodies were never recovered in one piece and everybody died.

Investigations were done swiftly and the results were scary. It seems Alaska was having some financial problems so planes were used more often, and maintenance people in a rush to keep the planes flying often falsified records of maintenance. Parts that was supposed to be changed didn't and like your car, you need to service it every few thousand KMs right? Well planes also but this time the service time was extended by 400%!! And at the end of the day the plane went down because the screw in that stabilizer was worn out, the I think chamber or maybe you call it cavity or whatever that holds that screw was worn out without any lines whatsoever and the screw even showed signs of you know, like becoming strings you know. The reason was because no grease was added for like years I think. The irony was the plane was due to be checked for maintenance some time later but the plane went down before that.

One maintenance guy 15 months earlier before the crash actually reported the company's new policy to the FAA and FBI investigated and they were fined. And then the plane went down and the guy actually before he was not really fired but blacklisted by his company actually wrote in his note to change that screw in that very plane but somebody else changed his order and it was not done. The sad thing was this man's career in the aviation industry was over but what a brave man, a very brave man.

So could you believe it? A plane went down because no grease was added to one screw. There was no backup screw for that plane, just one screw. The most terrifying thing was moments before their deaths, these people actually lived through the horror of hanging upside down, spinning and spinning but the pilots, they never stopped fighting for control over the plane. Of course one might argue that when something is wrong, they should have turned back and landed swiftly but sometimes they may think the problem is minor, maybe just a switch problem. I don't see a contradiction in the pilots' actions.

Maybe I was influenced by this documentary since documentaries may be biased in some ways. Who knows but you know...

The pilots have my deepest respect. I used to read about airline crashes and though felt sad, never went beyond the body count. Now after this series I began to appreciate the dedication, the danger, the horror, the science behind it all. Like one father of a victim said when ending the documentary, a person shouldn't die just because an airline wanted to make profit.

I truly admire the pilots and I feel so sad for the victims, just 5 years before. Just 5 years and I never knew such happened. Which is why when pilots for the Malaysian Airlines demanded a pay increase, I say they deserve it, more so market dictates it so. I hate it when ignorant people write these pilots should be grateful for even a small increase. When all could go wrong and they usually do go wrong mechanically or whatever, I would at least pray not just luck be on my side, that I have a good experienced dependable pilot flying the plane and in this case, good dependable honest maintenance crew caring for the planes and an airline company that looks beyond profit and put safety first. This is not a car man. When a plane crashes, the likelihood of survival is almost nil. I want the best pilot flying the plane.

Of course Alaska 261 was screwed to begin with. What can the pilots do about a faulty screw? Of course they said the plane's design was faulty also and mind you the planes are still flying! And how can FAA approve longer hours before service of a plane?

I felt like crying when I saw this documentary and it was so so so scary to have lived through those final moments and in the end because of one screw and no grease. What a way to die isn't it?

In honour of the two brave and great pilots who fought till the end to save the plane and those on board (although they failed because I would have loved a happy ending for this), the names of the pilots were...

Capt. Ted Thompson, 53 and First Officer William Tansky, 57.

The following links if you're interested in learning more about this crash..

- What is a stabilizer

- Transcript

- List of victims and some pictures

- Urban legend because of this crash. Interesting but misguided if you ask me. Remember to check out page 2 of the same article about the 9 minutes of stabilized plane and I agree with what the writer wrote.

- download the last 2 min recording (size 174kb)(the pilots and everybody sounded so calm!) by right clicking your mouse and choose Save Target As.

Amazing though that they managed to recover the black box from the ocean.

Do catch this series if you have ASTRO. Every Tuesday 10pm Ch 52 National Geographic channel, repeats I think on Sundays 7pm. Be prepared for sleepless nights though but you'll learn something as you get angrier and angrier. In fact after Aviance I thought my blood was near boiling but today, well you can say i almost vomitted blood.

AI 4 : Was it that shocking?
Permanent link Post a Comment 1 comments

I read in local newspaper NST today bemoaning the fact that Nadia Turner was voted out and that Scott is still in and hat the writer picked Anwar as one of the final 3, apart from Bo and Carrie, Nadia was his previous choice.

Sorry to say I totally disagree. I was shocked Bo was in bottom 2 but I wasn't shocked Nadia was voted out because she has loads of personality, a good singer but nothing else. She looks very scary. Someone said she looks like Tina Turner, but not the attitude and not the uniqueness. I wasn't surprised at all.

I like Scott. He may not look like an Idol (the writer chose Anwar who of course looks very nice but is that an indication he thinks ugly people can't be idol worthy?) but he has perhaps the most original and most pure voice. I love the way he sings though I dislike his looks and I thought he sang very very well that night Nadia was booted out.

One person that I am absolutely crazy about is Constantine who oozes with not just confidence and charm but he is sexy as well. Not the best singer but this man is definitely a winner in every sense. He may or may not win but I expect he will get quite a lot of offers soon.

Carrie is a good singer with a great voice but she looks so jittery each time I just didn't enjoy her performance. She lacks that people's face.

Anwar sorry to say is becoming boring and predictable. I suspect either him or Anthony will be out next. Anthony should be out.

As for Vonzell, she is so cute and she gets better and better. But she will be out soon.

My prediction is next out is either Anthony, Anwar or sadly, Scott but I believe Scott can hang in there for 2 more shows.

Saying sorry isn't that hard to do ...

I am referring to the latest sorry state of the whole blown up issue of Japan and their textbooks over the WWII and their role in it and of course the whole political side of it as well as the emotional side of it.

There was an interesting debate as to which was worse; the Nazis or the Japanese back then. Some said of course te Japanese because they forced women to be comfort women, nice name for daily rape and the scientific researches as well as the massacres. Some said Nazis because concentration camp, they turned the Jews, human beings mind you into soaps and lanterns and what nots as well as scientific research and forced labour.

My view is both as evil, as evil as the Al Qaedas.

But the whole textbook thing, I understand the anger. I am Chinese too though I never lived through that period of time, wasn't born yet. Even the Koreans were angry and understandably so. But it went totally out of hand and out of control when I saw Jusco being attacked, Japanese restaurants vandalised and destroyed (apparently not in Shanghai though...) and even Japanese cars were not left out of the mob anger. I think we must all stay focused. Attacking Jusco isn't making the right statements. Maybe throw stones at the embassasies but I like to believe China has 5000 years of culture, so I like to believe we must not behave like hooligans however angry we may be. It is the Japanese, in this regard the Japanese government who can't see through their own thick heads to know that a simple sorry may ease the pain. The Germans did it, we don't blame the younger generations, we even educate the young ones so as not to repeat the mistakes and the astrocities of their ancestors. But the Japanese youths may or may not know the truth, they may or may not know the reasons, they may or may not know the ugly truth about their own pasts. In wars, there are no winners I guess but as much as there are so called gracious winners, there must be gracious losers. For a society that practices such culture in even making a pot of tea, I am very surprised that a simple sorry wasn't forthcoming. I do not think it is a matter of paying compensation. Japanese CEOs have been known to apologise for fraudulent acts in public, they apologise for everything except for the past. I don't blame the youths, I won't boycott sushi or throw stones at Jusco or destroy the Honda or kick the Toyota or even stare rudely at a Japanese fellow ... I do feel a bit angry for the fact that by nt admitting it and not saying sorry for this one thing and yet saying sorry for everything else, the government seems to be of the position that what happened in the past, not just the war but the direct result of it, the testings, the rapes, the massacres, the torture, it seems they bask in the glory of it all. That to me is dangerous. False humbleness does not suffice.

At this point of my life and everyone else, I don't think we actually expect the Japanese government to really kneel and say sorry sorry sorry and pay pay pay. But I do expect some decency; to tell the truth in the history books, even if the books may be rarely used or even if the Japanese public knew the truth despite the lack of honesty. I don't think that is forthcoming and it is just too sad because as the world moves on to better themselves, the ones unwilling to admit failure, to admit their inadequacies, to admit their weaknesses are not only ignorant, but they're recreating a false history and therefore a false identity.

Be like the Germans. Own up, pay up, move on and gain some measure of respect for the sake of its future generations.

I understand the anger, though I do not agree with the reactions of it. But I understand also people still remember and for therm to continue to hide behind their own versions of events when the world knows the real version, people will always remember and you can't blame these mobs for destroying your Toyotas. Sad thing is the ones who suffer may be the little people, the ones who may own up to the past but the big guns still sit comfortably in their office and when all these die down, they lay low for awhile thinking it may all be over. The hurt is far too deep for it to be over in just a few decades. Generations to come must be reminded not really the hardships of war or the battle for freedom but they must be reminded, as I am reminding myself everyday the astrocities one can commit in the name of their Emperor, in the name of their beliefs, in the name of their Gods and in the name of their prejudice. And the scary thing is some may not even realise what they did was wrong and when one sees no wrong in the astrocities they have or is committing, I believe there is no more hope for the survival of human beings. We are not mere mortals; we are worse than animals.

Save your stone, don't throw it at the Japanese or Jusco. I believe the truth always prevail, and if they don't, you have your own textbook, take it out and read it to them. If they don't listen or refuse to believe or may be too brainwashed to even comprehend what you're trying to say, like the terrorrists we see today, I guess the only solution is not to act as they are acting, not to shower them with love, I believe in compassion. I believe every human being has the capacity to admit wrongs, to forgive and more importantly, the infinite ability to see through the shoes of the other side and come up with a middle way.

In fact I think everybody should consider the Buddhist philosophy to life. To me it isn't a religion; it is beyond that, it is a philosophy that can be reconciled with all religions as I believe all religions teach one universal truth; goodness of the human being. Interpretations may vary of course, in fact wrong interpretations may happen everyday but maybe, just maybe, and I hope so that one day, like the quote I love to use from the book Angela's Ashes and not an exact quote but the spirit of it;

"When I look back into the past, I see what could have been, but I was glad for all that it was"

because all that it was form the basis of who we are now and who we are now forms the basis of the direction of who we will be. I do not wish for what happened in the past to happen again but it happened. Learn from it and try to avoid it I guess.

Which is why I believe saying sorry isn't that hard to do, when you know you're wrong and you know you're sorry. Things are a bit more complicated when you don't think you were wrong, you don't think you should be sorry and you don't think you should own up to the past to which you had no part in creating. BS of course if you ask me. A government always represent their predecessors as well as setting the tone for their successors.

And the first step for us is to stop the angry mobs from finding every little excuse to vandalise as that is besides and beyond the point and for them to write history as it was.

Isn't that difficult right?

Wow! Amazing! Now there's like 2010MB of space and it is counting, up up up! Wow! Love this new email. I will "divorce" Hotmail. Gmail is the one for me. But I think there is a limit to files one can attach though never seen such notice there.

Anyway anyone wants a Gmail account? I just got this free 50 invitations, so I can just invite you guys. Just drop me your email address here or at my GMAIL account

(Remember to replace AT with @ and no space!)

New Layout!
Permanent link Post a Comment 5 comments

If you can't see the new layout (theme is light blue with an animated logo on top) please refresh your browser. I quite like this one though the other sections using the same layout looks a bit weird because I deleted the Archive panels you see on the right. Convenience is one push of a Publish button, all future changes reflected in all pages, instead of my past uploads was like FTP each page at a time. This is convenient but I suspect will lose some style as well Blogger posting interface doesn't seem to support much HTML anyway. BUT just in case of a meltdown it is all there. I have to back up my own server of course in case Blogger has a meltdown, and please noooooo!

So what do you think? I would appreciate some feedback. It is not as clustered as before though may be a bit confusing at first, the principle is still the same if you look at it. I love the logo (and if it doen't load fully, please refresh your browser) and I love the light blue theme, very young, very personal. I wanted a more "open space" concept.

Some links do not work yet and some pages are still old layouts as I am slowly changing them all. By the time I finished, you will have 3 new reviews coming soon. You'll love them.

Anyway happy Sunday everyone. I do love this new layout.

Oh yes, any submissions do send them to point2e AT myjaring.net (replace AT with @ and remember no space) and CC to funnlim@gmail.com

I am going to use the word AT in all the email addressess to avoid Spam Mails. I think it is a good idea.

The Royal Wedding, Wills, Harry & Diana

Ok, so there were a lot of clapping and loads of cheers and flags waiving on the chilly Saturday. But they were all invited. So only those who approve need attend.

I saw Richard E Grant!! Rowan Atkinson, Joanna Lumley, Joan Rivers, all there but didn't see them.

I must say, a very nice wedding. Very cozy, very personal but the bride looked her usual, the groom actually looked more glowing than the bride. And the bride wore a porcupine on her head. I saw on CNN how one commentator said of one guest wearing twigs on her head! Aiyah, so no culture, don't know how to comment. I don't hate Camilla, because I saw Cherie Blair and she's on my No. 1 list. No. 2 right now is Wayne Rooney's girlfriend. Posh is no. 4, Catherine Zeta Jones no. 5 so Cam is right now No. 3, used to be no. 1 though but I actually found someone with a face I could hate more than her.

It was nice to see Wills looking handsome as usual (but poor thing, hair thinning! He will look better once he enters the royal military or whatever, because he will have to shave his hair and I think he will look better that way, much much better). Very Kingly (other from the fact he is living with his girlfriend, Kate), standing up straight and well mannered although he seemed to dance or jiggle a little before the blessing ceremony started. Harry was like a kid and has more hair (and very bad taste in women).

I can still remember a young Harry wiping his tears during his mother's funeral and Wills, his head so low I can't even see his face. So many years ago.

The truth is, Harry is often seen as the more talented one. He can paint very well (look at the picture above, very nice ones), an excellent polo player and well, maybe more fit. But rather dumb when it comes to wardrobe choice (the Nazi costume incident), not very good in choosing girlfriends that is being shown to the public and is an alcoholic (they can deny it but he drinks much too much) whilst Will is often seen as the more intelligent, thoughtful, mature one. How can he not be mature? All his life he knew he would be King, his mom at her mosty neurotic and most depressed depended on him emotionally and he has been photographed much too often. Man! I know so much! Ya, my favourite family in the world! But they're charitable as witnessed in the Tsunami relief picture above. When it comes to royal duties, they're very serious and I must give even Harry that much credit. What they do in private, as long as it is not illegal, is really none of the world's business I guess.

An interesting article about Wills and Harry's feeling about the wedding. I wonder if it is true? Did anyone see a sulking Harry when he is looking at his step mother?

Anyway, there were 2 funny moments during the ceremony.

One was when Charles and his mistress..oops! I mean his wife the Duchess of Cornwall kneeling down begging for forgiveness for their past sins together with the crowd and also later on exchanging vows, saying they'll be faithful to their spouse (yeah, that was quite an irony isn't it?). The Queen didn't look too pleased though everybody was very happy, maybe except Harry looking rather well like the Queen. What to do, father so old, let him have her lar!

But the funniest moment had to be when they leave that Hall. Queen and hubby went in a nice looking black car, Charles and Cam also. But the rest boarded a BUS called Windsorian or something! Thatw as so funny! I was laughing and the 2 busses were so full, some had to stand!

Anyway nice cozy wedding. I will wait for Wills' wedding, where they're finally use that golden carriage, maybe.

What more can I say? Never despair if you're a mistress. To give Cam some credit, she did stuck by him for better or for worse for 3 decades, although they started off rather in a very immoral way. People deserve some happiness, Charles looking like one foot in the grave should be able to live out the rest of his life with the woman he loves most and the woman also deserves that too. They deserve each other I guess. This is not an acceptance of the union but an acceptance of a reality. If the sons weren't complaining, why should I right?

There were some protests. I read in the CBS website...

"Long live the Queen, Diana Forever: King Charles, Queen Camilla — Never."
- Banner held along roadside by Yvonne Williams, 67

To tell you the truth I still can't believe Diana is dead. Honest! And on our Malaysian National Day too! Anyway, bless her soul.

The moral of this story? Have patience, even a cow can be a phoenix one day. Of course she said she doesn't want to be a phoenix, a swan will do but really, when the husband becomes a dragon, his mate will become the phoenix and that's when I will protest. I'd rather the young dragon (Wills) become the dragon than the old guy. The dragon after all will represent the goodwill of all Commonwealth countries. I am not a sucker for morality and all, but I expect decency in character. And a man who cheated on his naive young wife on his wedding day is by definition not a man with a decent character, even if he has been charitable to the world, which I must acknowledge so that is why I agree at last, after watching the ceremony, he should be with the woman he wants to be with but he should never be the person the world bows to. Maybe he doesn't even want it.

Anyway a very interesting Article about the unpopularity of most members of the British Royal Family (exception, the Queen and Wills).

And lastly, to counter the puke effect the wedding may induce, here's a set of pictures that well, is more pleasant to the eyes... some where he was at his most good looking time (when hair was in abundance but even without it he still looks great)...

That's better, isn't it?

Just in case you're wondering who that woman in those pictures is, she is (well was) Princess Diana, his mom.

Kung Fu Hustle

So very happy Stephen Chow is finally getting the recognition he deserves. I was afraid the gwailos will never understand this movie, and indeed they didn't but the point is they loved it and that to me is great news. Of course 3 disagreed and why? They don't know what they're watching. I think only 1 or 2 actually understood the movie. Alas no review from Roger Ebert. Wonder what he thinks of this movie?

Read it all at Rotten Tomatoes.

Contrast of the day
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

Today the Pope was laid to rest for eternity. I saw on TV how people were crying and clapping and waving their scarves.

Tomorrow, Charles and his "I must have her no matter what" other half is getting married and I suspect AND A BIG PREDICTION there will be loads of tears minus the clapping and very angry glares, more so when every day I read how day by day these two are slow telling the world she is going to inherit this, take that title, blah blah blah.

What a contrast eh?

Coming Soon
Permanent link Post a Comment 1 comments

Thanks to Elizabeth and especially Sehseh, I got the almost complete cast list of Point of No Return and I should start writing tomorrow (if it ends tomorrow) together with Vigilante In The Mask. I will appreciate someone giving me a full cast - character list of Vigilante In The Mask, a series that I feel I must give my 2 cents worth. PONR definitely I will give my RM100-00 worth, not just 2 cents. Be prepared for a rather long one in fact. The reviews will be posted as soon as I am done with them.

Anyway new look is coming soon for this website. Concept still the same but just change here and there to make it more bare, less showy and more personal, more warmth, more coziness, more less professional if you know what I mean. I do like this layout, but a change to see if the new one is even better. Just a teaser, my website's new logo...

Ohhh, I can't wait to write my review for PONR. It has been such a long time I have felt this way about a particular series, very long time.

Avianca Flight 052 - 25 JAN 1990
Permanent link Post a Comment 10 comments

Tonight I saw the episode on the Avianca Flight 052 crash in 1990, and though I was horrified by many air disasters, this one horrified me because of one reason I shall reveal later. Now some background facts though I can't quote the exact stuff.

The intro ...

"In January 1990, Avianca Flight 52 carrying 158 passengers was placed in a holding pattern over New York in driving winds and rain. As the plane circled for over an hour it began to run out of fuel but air traffic controllers, unaware of the severity of the situation, continually delayed the landing, causing the plane to crash into a NY suburb. Who was to blame, and could such an appalling tragedy happen again? "

This Colombian plane was due for NY. It was fully loaded with fuel plu 2 hours max of extra fuel. The pilots, one very senior captain who can't speak good english, the engineer also very experienced and the first officer, a 28 year old guy who can speak English. He was the communicator. They didn't know NY was suffering from I think heavy storm and fog and the Kennedy airport was doing 30 plus landings in one hour due to backlog of flights from all over the world, and the controllers can't cope at all as fog was causing more delays and planes missing the runway due to the strong wind, fog and darkness. Avianca arrived with enough fuel for about 2 hours of extra time, they were asked to circle around and around outside of the airport, so they didn't know the airport was clogged. However, their fuel was running very low when they were asked to prepare for landing but they had to wait some more. When they had 30 minutes of fuel left or so, the Captain through his first officer gave an emergency call, telling the first controller that they are low on fuel. THey were asked to wait some more as preparing for landing. Then this controller was going off duty, passed to a 2nd guy who didn't know the first facts and so didn't know the severity of the situation. Again waited and waited. Came the 3rd controller though I can't remember whether there was a 4th. Anyway by that time the situation was so urgent, the first officer who was blasted by the captain who was already very stressed and the engineer doing the calculations knew they had little fuel and time to spare. So they told the controller they need priority, so they were asked to land. They missed the runway because of the fog. Then they were asked to do one big round circe for a 2nd attempt though they told the controller very clearly they were low on fuel. I think whether on the 1st or 2nd try, the pilots didn't know there were strong winds so low to the ground, and they had to use more fuel to stabilise the plane, thus moments before landing and a few kilometres away, the fuel was gone, engines were dead, the whole plane went pitched dark without engine and literally fell from the sky with eerie silence and a huge crash. No explosion as no fuel. Out of 160 plus passengers, about 70 plus died but many were seriously injured. The captain and his crew all died.

Investigations were held and shockingly the controllers were held to be blameless though they didn't really say to blame who then. Avianca's pilots of course. Avianca and the surviving passengers were so enraged Avianca sued the I think I can't remember what;s the organisation called but the one governing aviation in America. It was settled out of court but we all know there must be some fault on their part if not they won't settle.

The controllers had one defence, and that was why they were held blameless by their own fellow countrymen, where they said the instructions from the cockpit was unclear, that they didn't use the word EMERGENCY so the controllers were in not position to know the severity of the situation. The following is the actual verdict of the invesatigation:-

"The failure of the flight crew to adequately manage the airplane's fuel load, and their failure to communicate an emergency fuel situation to air traffic control before fuel exhaustion
occurred."

Never had I heard of a plane fell from the sky because of no fuel. Never had I seen such incompetence on the part of the controllers who when changing shifts, never bothered to tell the next guy in charge of the plane being low on fuel. Never had I seen such irresponsible behaviour. I do not think this will happen in Asia, as Asians generally will carry through a duty, we have more respect for our jobs and our duties. It was a very scary episode and I cried for the injustice. The pilots were blameless. Blame it on the weather or whatever, but when someone say the following, tell me, doesn't that constitute an emergency?

"We're running out of fuel", "and ah, we're running out of fuel, sir", "We just running out of fuel.", "Avianca zero five two, we just, ah, lost two engines and, ah, we need priority, please".

Doesn't low on fuel, priority and lost 2 engines meant emergency?? Maybe he should have said "WE ARE GOING TO CRASH SO LET US LAND FIRST!!"

"Contributing to the accident was the flight crew's failure to use an airline operational control dispatch system to assist them during the international flight into a high-density airport in poor weather."
Well the pilots were caught offguard by the low strong winds as you can read from the transcript. AND this is not an excuse to say some party was blameless. An airport should not handle more than it has the capacity in space AND manpower to handle.

I could only conclude this crash was horrifying because of the TIDAK APA attitude of the controllers. They didn't seem to care and the episode in Air Crash Investigations kinda cleared the whole issue for me. Anyway the acting was superb in this episode, the recreation so scary, it felt real and it was real.

I was just so appalled by the lazy bums. It was so unfortunate that people had to die because some people just don't bother.

One surviving passenger said priority in Spanish I think meant emergency. Of course it means that! And one survivor summed it best when he said how can you deny responsibility just because one word wasn;t uttered?

I can't agree more.

Do catch this repeat on Sunday 7pm. A must watch episode and maybe you will be as shocked and disgusted as I was tonight. 15 years would heal all physical wounds but the memory lingers.

- Click HERE for the full transript and read how severe it was but how not so serious the controllers were

- Click HERE to read the compensation for the survivors. Zoom straight to 1993.

- Click HERE for the verdict of the investigation and be as shocked as I was.

Anyway I am beginning to feel such sadness at the Pope's death. Don't know why.

Air Crash Investigations
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

AN APOLOGY
First of all I must apologise for my misunderstanding in my post about the Pope's death where I wrote that Malaysia will not be sending any representative to the funeral whilst Indonesia is sending 3. I read in the papers today we will be sending TWO representative, unfortunately not one of them our PM or DPM. I do think that a famous and influential as well as respected figure such as the Pope merits at least, at the very least the attendance of our PM. Maybe he will be going, I hope. Because frankly our country is not facing any crisis at this moment, so the DPM can handle the domestic issues whilst the world is kinda freeze framed, everything kinda stopped because of the Pope's not so sudden death.

AIR CRASH INVESTIGATIONS - CH 52 ASTRO
Anyway anyone watches this excellent documentary, Air Crash Investigations on Ch 52 ASTRO? Week after week viewers will be reminded why they must never travel by air. Kidding! But it is scary how some air crash can happen and the consequence of it, like how one father killed an air traffic controller after losing his wife and child in the air crash that before the report was out, the air traffic controller was blamed. That was a Russian plane. How the worst crash (before 911 became the worst but that was DELIBERATE crash) TWA colliding with KLM. That was so tragic and though the reports blamed it on the KLM Dutch Captain, the documentary tried to explain the many reasons. That crash happened because of in part pure bad luck, but also because of faulty communication problem still existing today and stupid air controllers who had said Yes to a question that required a loud NO as the first word. Then of course a rule; a big rule; if there is fog, visibility rate is zero, you at the tower can't even see the runway more so the planes, no guys with neon lights down at the runway and no radar, never ever let any plane fly in that condition. NEVER. Because of all those mistakes 500 plus people died.

But what I love about this series are the actors. They were so convincing, though most are just guessess but the actors portrayed the human emotions so well I almost cried when I saw the DHL plane which collided with the Russian plane went down, the young co pilot trying hard to stabilise the plane but knew they were going down, one tear rolling down his eyes.

After watching this series I also realise there are many Sam Tongs out there as Captains. Cool, calm, collected. But many crashes also happened because of the Captain's tidak apa attitude, but I am sure very very rare. Most of the time I blame it on the air traffic controllers.

Anyway this series catched my eye when one Sunday or Saturday I was going to watch Kung Fu Hustle VCD (legal of course) when I saw the preamble to this series, one particular episode about British Airways' almost crash back I think in the 80s I think. Can't remember. I remember I was about to turn the channel when I saw one old Captain hanging out the cockpit whilst an air steward trying desperately to hang on to his legs so that he won't fly off and a young pilot trying very hard to stabilise the plane whilst we get to see a big window, gone in the cockpit. It was such a well narrated, well explained and well acted episode, I became hooked. And I admired the whoe crew for their professionalism (that almost crash was none of the crew's fault nor the plane's fault nor the traffic controller's fault, but rather the overworked Engineer's fault) but the one person I was really so in awe with was the cool headed First Officer who landed the plane perfectly, no casualty (not even the captain who not just didn't die but he even went back to work months later and can still laugh about that horrible accident) and it was in history a perfect safe. I am sure that young pilot, now an old pilot would have a lifetime employment with British Airways. Imagine he did everything right, and he did it all by himself as the Captain was kinda busy outside the plane! But many documentaries thereafter dealt with Captains who did almost everything wrong. Also got terrorists hijacking a french plane (one of the best acting ever but everytime the terrorists shouted something in Arabic or said the words Allah, it was kinda silenced out-deny all the censorship board wants, most terrorists are Muslim simply using Allah's good name in the name of violence). So many stories and all so very sad.

Do catch it, on Tuesdays 10 pm or Sundays 7pm. I guarantee you will learn so much and be very afraid! Of course only if you have ASTRO.

The passing of Pope John Paul II

Ioannes Paulus PP. II, Karol Wojtyla, 18.5.1920 - 2.4.2005

A very sad news indeed. Sat whole night watching CNN and then watching a documentary on his works, many of which I was not aware of, until now of course, and after his death. Very ashamed of my ignorance. I could never imagine him being that young in the documentary and he was a very good looking man, with eyes shining with conviction and yet warmth. Like I could trust him. I always saw him as a very strong old man wrecked by disease but still managed to stand, bless, conduct his duty even when he can't speak much. I admire his strength and integrity. I believe his non violence stand on changes, more so political changes mirror that of Gandhi as well as the Dalai Lama. The more I watched CNN the more I feel a great man has gone, but of course back to the embrace of God. Maybe it should be a joyous occassion.

One priest quoted him as saying going to war in the name of God is blasphemous, is it a blasphemy against God. I can't agree more.

His death wasn't a shock but the fact and the idea that he is no longer amongst us mere mortal is still hard to accept. I really will miss him and the funny thing is I am not even Catholic, not even Christian but I feel the lost.

Anyway a bio on him here for those not familiar with this great man.

And I read, disappointingly that our government is not sending a representative, Indonesia sent 3. If this is true, I feel we should be ashamed of our tidak apa attitude.

But do remember, they're personal opinions, not personal attacks.

And then you might like to read my post on Moses Chan. I definitely like to read what you have to say about his strange phenomena, so to speak.

Xiao Qiang
Permanent link Post a Comment 2 comments

Ahhh the good old days when I was really following Taiwanese series and admiring Yue Ling, very frustrated with Ma Jingtao, really adore Jin Ming and truly drooling over Lin Ruiyang. The good old days.

Remember this woman? Xiao Qiang? I saw an interview of her today, much older, very conservatively dressed and surprisingly very interesting conversationist. And still as pretty as ever. And very feminine too, put me to shame for being not as feminine. She said she has never gotten any marriage proposals. I find that very interesting and sad. Imagine looking like her, gorgeous, nice packaging and not too bad a mind and yet, not one single marriage proposal? I seriously doubt her words. How old is she now? Because the following pictures, very sexy and taken not for any promo but for her friends to keep for memory sake kinda showed she may be a little older but really she still has that "it" factor. Acting wise, she is quite alright, but I never really liked any of her characters and hated most of her series, though I adore Yue Ling.

Where is Yue Ling now? How she looks now I wonder? She gained fame for looking like Jackie Chan's wife actually. Or is it ex-wife?? Is Xiao Qiang still acting? Hmmm..I know where is Lin Ruiyang (producing series) and Ma Jintao (still acting) but where are the women?

Anyway, some pictures and if you do not know who she is, she is considered Taiwan's sexy siren or rather most feminine sexy siren with am intelligent brain (she wrote some books on beauty and health care) though I can't confirm that since I do not know her. She is also like an image of health and well she has a body to die for though in the interview I mentioned (by Matilda Tao) she confessed that she has a tummy and she wears I think what you call those around the waist? Very honest of her. I was told that her family background is quite complicated because her dad is a gangster? Don't really know much about her past. Never married, no children. Got a brother. I think she may be the only girl in the family.

Introducing Xiao Qiang (some kind of flower, pronounced as Siow Qiang, not Little Qiang but a higher pitched Siow)...

The picture below, doesn't look like her at all if not for the cleavage I would have thought this is the younger Gui Yah Lui! Anyway can't see a tummy at all!

Never liked her hair, maybe too much styling which is why her hair at the crown or front is considerably lesser and she tries to give it a fuller look by perming it but it just looks not that nice. But her features are pretty. Another picture for you, some promo for some products...

Ermm just found some info on her, she was born in 1968! So she is now 37? Wow! She looks very good for a 37 year old woman! Never knew she was called Stephanie, doesn't look like Stephanie. Jasmine maybe, or Rose. For more pictures and more info, check these sites out...

I have corrected the thumbnail links and updated some of my comments below ...

You know, there was a time HK artistes are into those knitted fabric, then it was hats, then boots, then low cut dresses, then the shaved head, then heavy makeup ot very light make up, then and still is into being skinny to really skinny and NOW ladies and gentleman, the girls are into the latest fad;

Messy hair, if possible the whole head if not some part of it. The evidence? These pictures...

Don't bother with a comb though I suspect Sheren Teng's hair would require extra spray to keep it that way. Not easy to have messy hair.

And who says they're fighting? Look, Maggie is sharing a deep conversation with her supposed arch rival who is sharing an ever deeper conversation with her also rumoured arch rival! BUT, ah ha! No Jessica next to Maggie! Now that is real!

By the way Maggie looks like a classic star, doesn't she? Too thin though, but she was always that skinny.

And interesting spoof on the Chicago poster, very high quality picture, very sure the mag's real pic rather than the scan must be very striking. And guess what? Charmaine Sheh is perfect as Roxy, as this picture shows a striking similarity to that of the original counterpart, that is Renee Zelwegger (or however you spell her name). Why? As skinny and look, no bottom!! But really, frankly, Charmaine looks slight better than Renee because at least she doesn't pout so severely and looking like she is starving. Renee has this starving look, like she is starving but she doesn't admit it so she looks like she is suffering. Charmaine simply looks hungry but not that starving yet. Anyway the flat hair kinda suit her. And as for Gigi Lai as Catherine Zeta Jones' character, put it this way, I absolutely hate Catherine Zeta Jone these days, so for me this picture looks great, because I hated the original. And Bowie as Richard Gere...ermmm he has got more style than Richard Gere but not quite seen in this picture.

And more interesting spoof of classic or rather popular Hollywood movies such as...

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Breakfast At Tiffany's with Sheren Teng (please, she as Audrey Hepburn? Not enough waif like and seriously lacking that classy elegance - never ever try to pose like the legend or rather icon, never!)

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Pulp Fiction with Jess as Uma Thurman. Interesting, but lacking in that striking pose that Uma gave but well, kinda ok.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Moulin Rouge with Maggie Cheung as Nicole Kidman. Very weird picture, too much powder, but nice fashion but if only less powder, this could have been nice. I mean Nicole Kidman and Maggie Cheung are naturally fair but in this picture, Maggie looks like a ghost.

Moses as Keanu in the Matrix. NOOOOOO, Keanu wins hands down, hands up and hands side ways. Moses may have SOME style, but as Neo? NO WAY!

The Usual Suspects, with Dayo Wong but can't recognise the other two and frankly not even a single inch like The Usual Suspects. Is Sehseh didn't write The Usual Suspects, I wouldn't have known.

Update : I was informed that that's Cheung Man (aged so much) and middle is Leo Ku (couldn't recognise him at all).

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Pretty Woman, with Kenix Kwok as Julia Roberts. Can't criticise much since Julia Roberts herself used a body double in the original poster.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Men In Black, and Sehseh wrote Ron Ng but can't recognise him. Looking very stern these two guys but so lacking in style and charisma both Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones oozes with ease.

The above plus the Chicago pictures are the Top 10 Artistes in the Next TV Awards.

Some more...

Forest Gump, Alex Fong Lik Sun as Tom Hanks. Poor guy, can't even see his face. Nice clean picture but you know, the original poster spoke volumes and this one is kinda empty. Anyway, he is the Best Newcomer/Most Potential. Really?? Well since Ron Ng is considered old guns now, who else eh?

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Kill Bill Vol 2 with Mandy Cho as Uma Thurman. Nice colour, totally lacking in the anger the character in that movie has in her heart and soul and frankly feels just like another empty photo shoot without much character. But she won the Best Newcomer/Most Potential. I haven't seen her series, though I have seen snippets of some though can't remember her name. Saw her in music videos and frankly, was she THAT good? Best and Most are such bastardized words in HK awards nowadays, they carry no meaning. Why not Most Favourite? Like how TVB terms it, that would be better isn't it? Because she reminds me of plastic in one of the MVs I saw her in it. But then so were many so called veterans.... Anyway this win of hers reminds of the time when Shirley Yeung won Most Improved Actress in that TVB awards and I was like, improved from what? From worse to bad to mediocre? Indeed that was the only time I thought the Most Improved award lost its credibility (as previous winners were really good ones) and it was celebrating mediocrity but then, the young ones are mediocre...

The following, I do not know what they won but anyway, interesting spoofs..

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Far From Heaven, with Rebecca Chan as Julianne Moore. Hmmm...nice colours...And what did she win I wonder...

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Tomb Raider with Shirley Yeung as Angelina Jolie. I hated both movies but Angelina Jolie, even to me as a woman, I must admit, she is super sexy, super hot. The original poster had all the sweats, breasts and legs. This one? Didn't look a bit like Shirley Yeung but nice colour, nice lightning, nice gloss, nice glare but I wouldn't say it has the sexiness of the original poster, in fact she looked like one angry chick in here. But nice... surprisingly...since I am one of those who thinks Shirley Yeung can't act.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Amelie, with Myolie Wu but I do not know the name of the original actress but I saw the poster and pictures. This is one I really really like because it has the playfulness and the mischevious look of the original counterpart, all in this remake. The colour also very striking! Excellent! And I love Myolie!

Unfortunate though there are other spnsored awards but Sehseh's Blog didn't have the pictures to accompany them...Anyone knows I may be missing some, do email me the rest at funnlim@gmail.com

Why can't they do a Lord of The Rings? Who will be Arwen? Who will be Aragorn and Galadriel? WHO WILL BE LEGOLAS?? Don't quite care who won what actually, because I am kinda immune to the inaccuracy of them all.

Anyway I realised 2 facts after perusing the above pictures...

1. I have seen ALL of the movies but one, that is Amelie.
2. The originals were far far far better, even if the reshoot tries to capture the colour, they failed to capture the mood, the character, the looks. All of them, except for maybe Chicago (despite my dislike of Renee and Mrs Douglas) and Amelie, the rest totally has not much substance though some style.

And last but not least, a very interesting picture below this line.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Funny isn't it? We all know who stands where is always an indication who is more famous than who. Like in a TVB picture, the one right smack in the middle in the first line is always the most favoured and most famous of them all, and it kinda gets lesser and lesser in important as it goes further back and further away. Now this picture, there is a significance why Sheren Teng is first and therefore biggest picture. Because we all know her fame sky rocketted because of War & Beauty. Funny is why is Moses Chan second? And why is Bowie Lam so far back? I can understand Gigi being 3rd but why is Tavia even in the picture? She is talented no doubt but not super famous star like type. Sammul Chan yes, promoted and is that Miu Kiu Wai? He is an icon of yesteryear and was very famous but now? And Charmaine, wayyyyyyy back behind.. is that Jess? And Maggie before Bowie?

If you say "Funn, it's just a coincidence" but I don't think so. If you say it's like a girl/boy/girl/boy pattern, look again. If you say it's of no significance, then why is Cheren leading the pack?? Is this picture only for the nominees of this Next Magazine award or something? Is this meant for winners only? Is it incomplete? Because I don't see Raymond Lam, the heavily promoted Ron Ng? Where is Myolie Wu and Roger Kwok? Very inconclusive evidence of the ranking in the HK audience's heart because I refuse to believe Bowie is so farrrrr back BUT there could be a simpler explanation...maybe this is an incomplete version or rather just a capture. I doubt the latter. Or is this like the Top 10 most favourite artistes list?? Is Tavia in the Top 10 list? Where is her spoof picture?

By the way, scan through the picture, TWO individuals stood out as simply oozing with star quality, irrespective whether you like their acting or their personal lives. For me they're

1. Maggie Cheung - very beautiful picture, looking very elegant. Is that girl in low cut pink dress ebhind Bowie Jess?

2. Bowie Lam - the man not someone you can call good looking or manliest off screen but on screen, he oozes sex appeal and the image for tough manly hero with flaws.

The rest look like celebrity no doubt because they dress like one but these pictures maybe they don't do justice to them; lacking in star like quality. You know those yesteryear types, like Betty Davies, Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant and the likes? I do think Maggie Cheung has that quality. Simply ravishing and I am really not her fan.

An update : I was informed, quite politely that that's not Tavia, and that's not Miu Kiu Wai and that's not Sammul! The picture may be big, but it's not clear and they're actually the Top 10 artistes so that makes Tavia lookalike Kenix Kwok (and looking every inch like Tavia!), Sammul I think is... I can't recognise who is that and the last one should be Ron Ng looking like Miu Kiu Wai! What is wrong with my eyesight?!??!?! Real big apologies to fans of Tavia or even Kenix but to Tavia fans a correction to my mistake is really not a compliment. So I was right about her being not THAT popular....And still shocking with Bowie wayyy back there...
