SELECTED POSTS

This page, NEWS & UPDATES which is actually the index page of this website has grown into a huge database of my almost daily ramblings of all stuff I hold dear to my heart, including gossips of the most sordid kind. For your convenience, I have posted a list of posts which I thought is pretty informative in my own way that you might find interesting. The list itself may be long but those selected few are the ones I thought drives home the point I wanted to make. Do check them out in MY POINT IS [Comments & Opinions].

SERIES' SUMMARIES

Sometime in 2004 I began reviewing selected series in an episode by episode way, where I called these reviews EPISODIC THOUGHTS. These thoughts are mostly summaries of each and every episode with my opinion of that episode included in it as well. I may not provide the most in depth summaries but I am very proud of the fact that I could keep the writing on such a long winded basis each and every night for the entirety of the series. I don't do this for each and every series though because it kills a lot of brain cells, mine as well as fellow netizens who often joined in the discussion by posting informative stuff. These thoughts are still open for feedback and discussion. Do check them all out in REVIEWS where it is indicated with an  [E] next to my name.

OFFBEAT STUFF

There is this one section in here that features offbeat stuff that are not entertainment based. The section is known as FUNN STUFF [COMMENTS & OPINIONS].

PERSONAL FAVOURITES

There are 3 sections in here that contain my personal favourites of all kinds. THE DDGs [COMMENTS & OPINIONS] which features specially made websites by myself with info & all related stuff of my favourite stars or stars I like to talk about, MEDIA & MUSIC FILES [DOWNLOADS] which has my favourite VODs and music files, most of them are taken from Chinese & Korean dramas & movies and some of which I am hosting for my net friends and THE STORYTELLERS [WEBSITES], where you'll find stories written by amateur writers like you and I.

Do check them all out!

R.I.P
Permanent link Post a Comment 2 comments

Here is a face that you will always see in most TVB series and posthumously you'll see him in a number of series. Always the secondary actor but I remember him since years and years ago but never knew his name. Only after his death did I know his name was Yeung Ka Luo. I knew he had cancer and there was a time he looked well enough but then well he died. He never lived to see the new year. He was 43. I can't remember most of the series he did but I remembered him and will remember him. I remember having the same sort of sadness when one of TVB's most prolific secondary actor died and I never knew his name. He was pretty big sized and there was no tribute. Likewise I doubt there will be tribute for this man but it doesn't really matter. My condolences is with his wife and I am sure young children. I took the following from New TVB Discussion Forums and I was pretty moved by his dedication and his readiness to accept his impending death with such dignity;

"He actually had cancer a few years ago and the doctor told him that he would have only 6 months to live. However he lived beyond his sixth month (which I think was some time around August 2004) and continued to act for TVB till the very end. He recently finished filming his last series with Michael Mui, Anne, Bosco and Shirley (Shanghai something) and prior to that he also filmed the ancient series with Steve Ma, Wayne Lai,etc (Safe Guards). It is also said that before he died, he insisted on wearing the outfit that he wore to the recent TVB anniversary. He has two kids and recently celebrated his 25th wedding anniversary with his wife - ~*cherry*~"

May he rest in peace.

The Promise - 2 Versions of the same movie
Permanent link Post a Comment 1 comments

I read from Just JDG forum that The Promise was edited by Miramax and became Master of the Crimson Armor where it is about 18 minutes shorter, has a new beginning with new intro and some clarification over what many called Cecilia Cheung's character a bit shizophrenic. And every western critic as well as Chinese who saw the shorter new version is so thrilled about it. Funny though that Oscars is going to see the original version whilst Golden Globes nominated the shorter version in the Best Foreign Picture. I wonder, has anyone seen both version and see whether there's really a clarification over the story? I am really not confused over the story. I know who she loves. I am not confused about the ending because Chen Kaige wanted the ending to be happy forever together type of ending.

My problems with the movie are ...

1. over the top acting - did Miramax used CGI to redo all Nic Tse's scenes?

2. so called beauty of the beauties - did Miramax coloured some blusher onto Cecilia Cheung's pale cheeks as well as add some weight to her tiny frame?

3. ending - did Miramax extended the ending to show us exactly how is the original a happy ending? I mean the science of it? I know it's a fantasy but I wanna know, I wanna see for myself.

4. Jang Dong Gun - did Miramax removed the dirt on JDG's face in most scenes?

5. The title - did Miramax or even Chen Kaige clarified exactly which The Promise the title is referrring to? My review said it refers to the promise Cecilia Cheung made to Chen Hong. Some other reviews said it was the promise she made to Nic Tse and broke subsequently. Now I am even more confused but let me think for a while..I do think the title refers to the promise she made with the deity because I remembered the deity said to her "Remember your promise..remember...".

I wonder...I wonder... You know like a joke I once heard, there are 7 wonders in the world right? Well now we have the 8th wonder. The Promise makes me wonder...wonder...

Other than Sehseh and Kidd who watched the movie, The Promise (original version), the former hating it and the latter loving it, anyone else saw this movie? I will post my review later but well, anyone?

Hello again & Yippee!!
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

Oh yes, hello again. I have reworked the layout to make it less cluttered look. Very happy with this new look. And I have managed to republish the entire 680 posts! And by the time you see this I should have republished all other sections as well with this new look! So very very very very very happy!

Anyway...

I have used loads of cash and credit card buying Yoga box, Pilates box, etc etc etc. I hope to use them. I also hope to pay off my debts and strive to get a better job, higher pay BUT I must of course work hard first and avoid work problems.

So my biggest wish is great financial breaktrough so as to have financial freedom, health opmitisation whilst achieving the usual standard of physical beauty and rewarding career in year 2006. Guy or no guy is optional although an added bonus IF he is Jang Dong Gun or the likes.

What's yours?

By the way, I added Sehseh's review of The Promise in Movies section and I have added some new scans into Shaun Chen board and The Every Board in News!Articles! Thanks of course to Pearl. Check them out.

P/S :

And may you have a great time! KL is raining right now so I wonder will it put a damper to the new year celebrations? How are you celebrating it? Me boring me boring. Since short of cash, and I never liked noisy crowded sweaty hot places with loads of strangers, I am spending my new year's eve like I spent every day of my life; in my house. Do tell how you celebrated this ermmm occasion.

Gay marriages, gender reassignment & men in general
Permanent link Post a Comment 5 comments

I have been following the news on gay marriages for some time now. And it turned really ugly when Elton John married his long time partner, David Furnish. Long time is indeed not a very suitable word to describe their relationship which is more than a decade long. That is far longer than any heterosexual relationships of these days. When I said it turned ugly, I meant in terms of opinion sent in by Malaysians to local newspapers. Many were against the idea and the reasons being given were

1. marriage is defined as between a man and a woman

2. marriages are made in heaven and God created Adam and Eve and not Adam and Steve or Eve and Evie

3. marriages exist because of procreation and since people of the same sex can't reproduce so to speak, therefore marriage is between a man and a woman which obviously can reproduce if no genetic defect or illness

4. gay marriages are just wrong

5. gay marriages are an erosion of the sanctity of marriage and the vows one has to undertake

6. Gay people can't be good parents as children may be confused with their gender identity; who is mommy and who is daddy?

Perfectly reasonable arguments I must say, except that I kinda remember Joan Rivers joked on Parkinson where she said "Why can't gay people get married? If we heterosexuals have to suffer divorce, so should they!". Very funny line but very valid if one looks at the other way around.

For me gay marriages is not an erosion of the sanctity of marriage but rather divorce is the ultimate erosion of sanctity of marriage. So if gay people aren't allowed to marry, therefore heterosexual couples shouldn't be allowed to divorce under any circumstances since "till death do us part" and "for better or for worse", right? So argument 5 is not a valid one.

Argument 1 can be easily changed. Law is after all written by men or rather human beings so definitions can be updated. So marriages can be defined as an union between two consenting adults. Period.

Argument 2 can be seen in 2 ways. One is bible and other books of religion can be interpreted and reinterpreted. After all that is what Al Qaedas and many Christians have been doing for years anyway. So if a book can be interpreted as condoning mass murder of innocent lives in the name of whatever that may be or that there can be protestants and Catholics and there can be many branches of Buddhism or Hinduism or what ism there is, and all of them basically can be traced back to their ultimate respective book of religion which over the thousands of years the text remains unchanged, surely gay marriages can fit into their interpretation. The thing about Adam and Eve and stuff, they're just names. After all Ashley was once a man's name, now it's a woman's name. So Adam can be a woman, Eve can be a man, so to speak. A rose by any other name is still a rose you may say but if a rose is reintroduced as orchid and no one has never doubted how orchids look like and always assuming it looks like well a rose, I don't see why not gay marriages. It's a matter on how you see a certain subject matter.

Argument 3 is silly. People still give birth irrespective of marriages. In fact there are more out of weblock births than in wedlock these days. Society has come to a certain stage where we condone single parents because there is nothing to not condone. You know what I mean? There is nothing wrong with single parenthood or illegitimate children (although their rights is still limited and in a way I agree with that since I am a child of legitimate parents, it is just a matter of satisfaction at knowing sins of the parents shall visit their children which is mean but well, it's my own personal opinion), so there shouldn't be anything wrong with unions of people of the same sex. And may I just add, marriage is more about companionship. It may used to be continuing one's genes but since with modern technology like articifial insemination and sperm banks, marriage for procreation is a redundant argument.

Argument 6 may seem valid. After all in a child's eyes, a woman is the mom, and father is the dad. Dad is the disciplinarian and mom is the caring loving attentive individual. Yes and we still live in the 50's with the 50's values I guess. We see it that way because grown ups see it that way. Imagine a child who grows up in single parent household. He wouldn't know that it's not normal until and unless some mean jerk tells this poor kid that he's missing out on a father or mother and that it's wrong and repugnant. Only then the kid knows what he is missing and starts blaming his one parent who loved and nurtured him for making him having one less parent. Likewise gay parents. It's the conditioning of a society and perception. These perception can change when the society's prejudice changes. Until then I am afraid some kids may be more susceptible to such jerks' stupid slurs whilst stronger ones would immediately recognise that it is the feelings between the parties that matter, not the gender or how many parent one has. Likewise with adopted children. I am sure even in a gay marriage, there must be one who adopts the feminine role and the other the masculine role. So one will be daddy and the other mommy. Of course I too wonder how to you address that other parent? Two daddies? Two mommies? A new term perhaps?

And now we come to argument 4, the catch all that gay marriages are just plain wrong for whatever reason one can think of that is not specific. Maybe these critics are right. Gay marriages may be plain wrong, so is a marriage between a 20 year old with a 50 year old or a marriage of convenience or a marriage between two different race or a marriage where one has to give up more and the other simply take more or a relationship forced upon by parents. Or quite simply marriage because one just wants to get married. What is marriage about? For me marriage is about the union of two souls who are in love with one another and who strives to keep their vows no matter the thing called destiny throw absurb circumstances at them. Marriage is also about mutual respect where one spouse recognise the greatness of the other and does not minimize the contribution of the other so as to make oneself feel good and yet does not deny the other his or her glory moments when the right time comes and is prepared to back out of the limelight once in a while. Marriage is about two people who may feel the temptation of undermining the sanctity of their vows and yet their love so strong and their confidence in one another so strong that no matter what, they place their vows above all else and their trust in one another reinforced. Marriage is about accepting the other's faults and recognising the fact that oneself is not perfect. Marriage is not about settling for the sake of settling but rather you must first fancy that person. Marriage is full of arguments and tolerance but it is ultimately about 2 people joined in their destinies to forge new ones. Marriage is not about children but having children will not be the factor that makes the marriage complete but will be a bonus.

And therefore to me marriage is an impossible act for me which is why I don't think I can ever be married. I sometimes wear a ring on my finger, for no other purpose other than it looks good. And even then it felt like suffocating me, like squeezing my finger till blood can't get through to the tip. It could be the ring was too tight but I do think a ring is not right for me. Of course you can say it need not be a ring. Anyway to me marriage is difficult. I can't even live with my own kin sometimes, more so a stranger whom I only know for sayyyyyyyy....1 year? 2 years? 10 years? I want to have children some day, it need not be through a marriage. Some may say I am very selfish to deny my child a complete family. I can only say those who throw themselves out of the building together with their children when their husbands or wives leave them is even more selfish; heartless in fact.

So am I for gay marriages? I don't know really. I don't even know am I for marriages, period. But if people like Elton John who has been with his partner for more than a decade and despite his obvious huge wealth that is in danger of being divided between himself and his spouse when he divorces that spouse and knowing fully that with legal marriage comes legal responsibilities and liabilities and still wants to go ahead and register their union, I would say why not? For me the key words to marriage is love and two consenting adults. And I stress TWO and CONSENTING and ADULTS. I disagree totally with polygamy if and only if men are allowed to do so and not the women too. Therefore I see nothing wrong with gay marriages. Such letters to the newspaper only tells me there is something wrong with these people who wrote the above reasons. Until and unless a more valid reason comes up, I don't see why gay marriages should not be allowed and even celebrated as long as it is genuine, sincere and has the blessings of their own families or people who matters to these two souls.

And now I wish to comment a bit on the recognition of transexuals. In Malaysia especially since the papers highlighted the marriage of a man and a woman who was once a man. I resent that report not because of this union but because it twisted the state of Malaysian law. I was wondering when did we ever change the definition of marriage? Our law is like what Britain was; your gender is decided at birth. Not sure if still the same law over there. We do recognise the change of gender if it is due to medical reasons and I believe those where one is born with dual sex or a deformed sexual organ that needs for gender reassignment to be performed. But not those who are born a male and yet feels like a woman trapped in a man's body or vice versa. Which was why the article was misleading and gave people of the same predicament false hope.

The following also applies to a woman who has become a man.

If a man has gone through painful surgery to become a woman and even the medical world recognises and allows for such a surgery to be performed, I feel they should be recognised as a woman in their ICs and birth certs. The decision whether to tell their future partners that they were a man is up to the individuals as it is up to a woman whether to tell her partner whether she is a virgin or not since there is no life threatening disease involved in here. But there is an added responsibilities on these class of people to inform since they can't have children and if a man marries her in view of having a family of his own, surely he would feel cheated and disgusted. So in a way moral conscience dictates whether one reveals or not.

But I stop at that. If a man has yet to undergo surgery and can't afford to have any, should their gender be changed officially? After all gender is something which can be seen, not felt. So I stop at that and I urge the government to provide affordable and medically recognised and sound facilities to help these people to find their true gender, change it and help them adjust accordingly. Until and unless a change has been made, I don't see why recognition must be given in legal documents.

But that will not be the case here.

Many argued our government should allow for change of gender officially in the ICs. I can safely tell you it is near impossible. One reason, religion and I need not say more. Secondly, even changing one's religion on an IC takes filling up forms and for some running around and convincing the lazy bums who got it wrong to change it fast is full of red tapes, more so recognising the change of gender. And thirdly, majority rules. Same as gay marriages which will never be recognised (at least until someone does), there is an issue of one is born as one is. A woman is a woman, a man is a man. Marriage is between a man and a woman whose genders are determined at birth. And there is another serious issue here. Sodomy is illegal in Malaysia and punishable with imprisonment so if we allow gay marriages between two men, then sodomy must be legalised. That will never happen. I know I know, I am sure most couple you know do it the front and back way for pleasure but the law is the law and until it is changed, it may be a morally repulsive law but it is nevertheless the law. You may say sodomy is morally repulsive but I beg to differ. As long as two consenting adults enjoy it, I'd say why not? You know what is morally repulsive? A man charged with statutory rape of say a 14 year old and the entire trial is about the consent when consent is never an issue in a statutory rape charge or that from what I read the other day, a 9 year old girl in Britain or America revealed how many boyfriends she had and that she let them touch her. 9 year old. Where has all the experiment on the Barbie dolls days gone? Has the 9 year old herself became the Barbie doll for boys now?

So my point is you ask? I am sure many of you may feel a bit shocked at my opinion because you have a different view. I can't blame you. There are times I wonder am I THAT open minded? Am I THAT accepting of such changes in society and my perception of marriage and union and gender THAT liberal? After all it was only in the 50s where the roles of mommy and daddy were so strictly defined or that a woman is a woman is a woman at birth, period. But everyday I walked on the street, and I meet men who are so effiminate. More effiminate than women. In fact there is an increase of such effiminate men who dress like a woman and it scares me in a way because I wonder where has all the men gone? I mean my selection pool is getting narrower now. And I know for a fact that many men who behave like men are in fact homosexuals. So my pool is narrower still. And then within that narrower pool, we have jerks who want women with great body irrespective of the fact that the women's face is full of pimples and within that pool itself men who want women who are young and no more than a certain age. Women's only two needs I believe are love and money. Everything else is acceptable but men's demands are much greater. I mean love is a given thing already in any relationship whilst money is really whether that man himself is ambitious or not. He earns it well and he earns it for himself. Women have a more difficult time. We are talking about genetics here. Fat is fat, old is old, sagging is sagging. You know what I mean? And worse still, older means lesser chance of getting pregnant means even lesser pool of selection. I must add though bisexuals are a class of individuals that I can never understand. Make up your mind. Why confuse people like me? I mean already I am in competition with other women and it is so horrible, now I have to worry if my guy is looking at another guy? Is it true that every heterosexual man would think about perhaps another man but may or may not carry out his thoughts? Women too? Are we all innately bisexuals??

So in the end what are we left with? My only comfort is a man as gorgeous, successful and nice as Jang Dong Gun is still very much single. However my sister chose to irritate me by suggesting that a man who wears a ring on his necklace around his neck, unmarried and sucessful is attached, to a MAN! Oh please don't! If that is the case, the pool has dried up for me.

Oh come on gorgeous (well reasonably gorgeous, nice looking enough for me to want to kiss you) physically proportionate tall successful well to do men, where are you? Here! Here! Look here! If you exist, tell me so because I can't see you! Ok, I need to wear my glasses but come closer, let me know my selection pool has not dried up yet! Jang Dong Gun, why you never come to Malaysia? WHY? WHYYYYYYY?????

In summary, my entire post is about

1. gay marriage is no big deal

2. gender change on IC is acceptable in certain circumstances

3. narrow minded people are scary

4. I question myself if I am that open minded

5. I am still sore that Jang Dong Gun did not come to Malaysia; AND

6. Where are all the men for me, Funn Lim? WHERE?

Tbank you for reading and Funn Lim out!

Funn Lim back in again.

Ermm what do you think of the new layout by the way? Please be kind.

Hmmm..not entirely happy with the new layout. I thought spacious when designing but once stuff is posted, still have that cluttered look. A least colourful but well, let me think about the colours.

New stuff for you. Just updated the The Every Board as well as Shaun Chen Board thanks to scans by Pearl, my news correspondence from Singapore about everything Shaun Chen. I am totally cut off from this man's news but great news is that he got his old job at MediaCorp back! Do read the scan. Look for the boards under News!Articles!

Added an opinion by Sehseh (thanks to her for allowing me to repost her ranting about this movie in my website) of The Promise [Chi] [Mov]. Do have a read, if you haven't read it in her blog. i hope I got the goddess' name right, should be Man Shen and she is a deity I think. My review will be posted soon after I clean it up a bit.

Well new year's coming and it is the year of the dog right? Again not good for Dragons. I hope to have resolutions, the top being bloody finish this new layout and just be happy about it! Any problem with the new layout do inform me.

By the way I added an FAQ thanks to Bravenet.com. Do check it out. Waiting for your submissions!! More of reviews of The Promise the better. I don't mind receiving positive glowing reviews since after all that is a validation that my gorgeous man did great in there.

A Chinese Tall Story
Permanent link Post a Comment 3 comments

I saw the trailer when I was watching King Kong. Read the 2 pages worth of articles. Whilst Nicholas Tse has enough of acting chops and looks to carry the role, the story is like butchered! BUTCHERED! Vomitted blood watching the trailer. What now? Monk has to choose between passion and his mission? Passion and his mission? I thought his passion is the mission! Why? Why butcher it?! Why? Such a stupid adaptation. No not an adaptation but a bloody shameful rewrite. What with aliens and all. I will give this a miss.

OPINION : King Kong [Mov] [2005]

I just watched King Kong, 3 hours long and may I say, the best movie of the year. It has everything, and so much more. The Kong as in the Ape/Monkey/Gorilla has more personality than any of the characters in Harry Potter 4 and Narnia combined. I was very disappointed with Narnia, and it was boring to the core although visually it was exciting and the first meeting scene between Mr Tumnus and Lucy was very polite and a dying virtue in today's world. I am reading the book right now and believe me, the book is so much better. King Kong is an experience you can only feel and experience in a cinema. Only in LOTR did the cinema curtains like opened until the entire screen and now it is King Kong and for a moment I thought the curtains would you know burst into the walls! Peter Jackson has certainly made such a visually exciting movie with characters that you can feel for them. Best of all, as in like Gollum, King Kong the lead character is such an enigma. Andy Serkis must have mustered his entire facial muscles to give Kong such a great interpretation. He must be nominated. Gollum should have won best actor years before, now it must be King Kong. Whilst I had my reservations about Naomi Watts but she is effective. I really like Adrien Brody, even when he was in The Pianist and in The Village. He was wonderful in here, as rugged as a hero should be. Jack Black is one of my most favourite actors and he did wonderful here. Not strictly a comedic role since his Denham is quite sinister. Jamie Bell didn't have his heavy accent and he grows into quite a handsome young man. Can act very well too.

There are glitches in this movie. For one, one scene was quite obvious a green screen type with Naomi Watts running next to a T-Rex I think. But the rest are a marvel. Narnia may go on and on and on about how real their Aslan may be, but really wait till you see this big ape.

There are so many great moments in this movie, ranging from scary, suspenseful to even romantic. One of the best scenes has got to be King Kong versus not one but THREE T-Rex. What an amazing scene. Another was a stampede of I think Brontosaurus (those vege kind with long neck). I never imagined they would tumble the way this movie depicted and it was almost funny if not for you know humans running next to them trying to escape the falling giants as well as hungry meat eating velociraptors-kind of raptors. Very scary scene. The ending made me cry.

But my vote for the best scene and my most favourite scene has got to be when King Kong was doing a snow-waltz with Ann Darrow (Naomi Watt's character). It was such a beautiful romantic scene.

Truth be told, I thought this would be a monster movie. I had my reservations when I saw the big poster with Naomi Watts in the middle, Kong on the right and a T-Rex on the left. By the way gorgeous poster, such wide giant type you know. Never before seen such gorgeous expensive type of movie of grand epic proportion, never since LOTR. But after the first few minutes into this movie (Kong doesn't appear until I think more than 1 hour into the movie), I was so immersed in the visuals and so anticipate King Kong's appearance, I didn't quite think of it as a monster movie. If an ape can be that big, a centipede can be that big as a giant, why not evolution stopped on that island for the dinosaurs? It is believable, in movie magic sense. Believe me, you will love the T-rex scenes.

Like I said I thought it was a monster movie. I was so wrong. It was a love story, a love story between an ape and a woman. Not even watching the original (whichever version you may have seen or heard about), this is a love story doomed from the very beginning. So very sad.

I know most of you are ready to run to the cinema to watch this movie. For those very few who just thought "Aiyah I can safe a few bucks, buy VCD lar", whether original VCDs or pirated types, please don't be so kedekut. Small TV, not even 50 inch TV wil do it justice. It needs a wide cinema screen, with booming sound and a whole lot of people there to ooh and ahh with you.

Like one ad says, "It's the experience that counts".

This movie has my vote as the best movie of the year and the best movie event of the year. It's a great adventure, suspense, monster movie and in a much smaller scale, whilst it is well acted, Peter Jackson has got to take credit for simply being an effective and a great storyteller. Now I really want Mr Jackson to take on Harry Potter!

With all the pomps and the effects and all, in the end this movie is quite simply brilliant because King Kong looks and acts so real, my emotions is pretty raw right now after watching the ending which was a tad too long but what the heck? Mr Jackson can take all the time he wants. It was such an amazing journey.

Do not miss this one!

A useful tip : Do not drink too much cola whilst watching this movie. It is very long. Like 187 min long. You don't wanna miss a single frame of this flick.

Golden Globes Award 2006
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

SURPRISE! SURPRISE!

So The Promise is nominated for best foreign picture. It won't get an oscars nod if you ask me. What surprised me was Kung Fu Hustle also nominated and considered under China! I am so pleasantly surprised. Stephen Chow totally deserves this nomination and I think it could win. IT COULD! Competition I hope not that stiff. I know for one from the trailers The Promise is no fight with Kung Fu Hustle. I had the opportunity to rewatch this movie on AXN the other day and it was still as fresh, funny and innovative as I have seen it for the 1st time. Truly Stephen Chow had such a vision and he totally brought it to life. I really hope it wins!

By the way how come Kung Fu Hustle is China? Why not HK SAR? How come Perhaps Love is chosen to represent HK in Oscars and not Kung Fu Hustle? I always thought maybe it was because Kung Fu Hustle was last year but apparently not! What an oversight. It should have been Kung Fu Hustle.

Mr Chow! I HOPE YOU WIN!! YOU ROCK!!!

Arghhhhh moments in life part deux

Sooooo, this is how it feels like you know...what it could have been had he decided to stick to THE PLAN...Sighhhh..

Anyway about Split Second, I am so lost. But I deduce this, and don't say the whole plot, just say yes if I am right or no if I am wrong and explain a bit...

That Moses is best friend of Marco but Marco wanted him dead for reasons I do not know (do tell me why). So Moses is actually a nice guy and he is like Anthony Wong in Infernal Affairs. Confirmed Patrick is Tony Leung whilst I suspect Kevin Cheng is Andy Lau. Now who is Alex Fong then?? Yoyo is Marco's girlfriend? She's so annoying and so thin. Anyway I just wanna know how come Moses died? And why is he always the most prolific guest star or supporting actor of most series?

Arghhhh moments in life ...
Permanent link Post a Comment 1 comments

is when you come across something you wish happened much earlier and damn it! Damn it all! It's damn cheaper! DAMN IT ALL!! Feel like buying this one BUT defeats the purpose since I have it already BUT DAMN IT! DAMN ITTTTT!!!!

Anyway I came across this interesting post at New TVB Discussion Forum where well the contents speak for itself...

I saw this in a recent HK magazine, it is the ranking of TVB actresses most favoured by TVB. What do guys think, do you agree or not?

1. Kenix Kwok
Since losing best actress award to Liza Wang, Kenix said she would not be filming Tai Chi. So executive Lok Yi Leng invited Kenix out for lunch in an attempt to pursuade Kenix into taking the role.
Star rating: 5

2. Gigi Lai
Since winning the fave actress award last year for War and Beauty, Gigi’s star status has been on the rise and is one of the firm favourites of TVB. She has been offered the leading roles in many of TVB's big productions. She also has very good connections within TVB, been very close friends with TVB top manager Lok Yi Leng. Her star power is such that The Dance of Passion, in which Gigi is starring in, will also be aired earlier than expected.
Star rating: 5

3. Myolie Wu
Myolie’s one of the younger generation of actresses. She is well-known for her obedience to TVB. She is also one of the leading actresses in Tai Chi, with equal importance with the other leading female parts. Myolie also has the full support of Liza Wong, who praises her constantly in front of TVB managers, gaining her much credibility within TVB.
Star rating: 4

4. Jessica Hsuan
Jess has managed to held onto her place within TVB this year. With the success of Life Made Simple, Jess will remain one of the favourites of TVB.
Star rating: 4

5. Charmaine Sheh
After losing the fave actress award for the past several years, Charmaine’s popularity with TVB has decreased significantly. 2005 has not been a good year for Charmaine, Yummy Yummy did not get high ratings and TVB has put off showing her other series until after the anniversay. Audience reaction to her new series Always Ready has been very poor. By purposely airing the show after the anniversary, this clearly indicates that TVB does not think the series will do well.
Star rating: 3

6. Maggie Cheung
Maggie has caught typhoid illness after filming in Mainland and is forced ot take a break. Maggie is clearly no longer in TVB's favour and she has fallen very far since her glorious days in 2003 when she won the fave actress award.
Star rating: 2

Sorry if I throw cold water on your head but really? I don't think so. The best way to know is who stood in the middle of the group photo during the anniversary and that is the most favoured person. Jess is favoured. Charmaine is more favoured than this article admits. Gigi Lai as much as I hate it is very much favoured. I don't like the tone about Myolie and Maggie. Myolie doesn't need Lisa Wong's praises to get ahead as she was rising. Her rise is fast since it's just a few years so she is very much favoured, and should be since out of the list she is one of those very few who wins her reputation by her ability to act really well. Maggie is sick, so can't expect her to act when sick right? If I remembered correctly she was about to start new series when she became sick so how can this article say she is not favoured?

The above stars are all favoured by TVB. Those star rating is useless basis towards their favoured and popularity. But for Kenix to be at the top is not true. I feel Jess is more on top than Kenix. Charmaine should be more up and yes I reluctantly agree Maggie should be bottom since she is not seen. But when she is well again she will come back in full force.

And how blatantly clear can this article be about TVB's role in the awards eh? See! See! Gigi Lai never won on merit, it was because TVB wanted her to win. This artciel destroys the credibility of TVB awards by saying it's voted by fans. If you can believe this piece of crap...

Anyway...still depressed over JDG not coming to Malaysia and NOW THAT DVD THING! Even more depressed. Anyone see me online on Google Talk do Google me to make sure I am alive instead of being figuratively dead you know. So frust!!!!

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!
Permanent link Post a Comment 10 comments

I am forever amazed how come people could hack into The Sims 2 game and make it like the most happening game there is. Useful hacks like killing off a family member you do not wish to play any more, getting abducted by aliens, building slides (I am curious how come no one ever made a slide for the pool instead of having to really build one), underground garage, sleep better, etc..amazed. If you're into The Sims 2 game, check these useful tips to building that underwater house (yes, you sims can leave underwater!) or that pool plus lake feature that is just awesome! I just spent 2 hours learning to build the slide, ugly ending BUT what an awesome hack if you ask me. Awesome! Awesome!

By the way Split Second thus far is awesome, awesome. So wow! I mean I am impressed with the 1st 2 episodes already! But it would be great if Wong Hei has Patrick Tam's role, Patrick gets Moses' role and Moses...ermmm..maybe cast in another series. Mandy Cho is an eyesore, earsore and everything sore. Awesome!

Anyone watching Rome on HBO? Awesome.

Tried >Google Talk? I talked to fellow netizen Pearl today and the feature..simpler and cleaner than ICQ and guess what? They have this feature like dialing feature that for a moment I thought "MY GOD! AM I DIALING INTERNATIONAL LINE? TELEPHONE CHARGES GONE CASE!" but no no just a nifty little trick. Awesome. You need a google mail account to use Google talk and I have in total 300 to give away. I want everyone I know on the Internet to install Google Talk so that we can google each other when online and so you can discover so how boring I am so called "in person" and that you will realise my posts in my site is so much more interesting than the "Hi I'm Funn", "Yeah yeah", "Yes Yes" "Bye bye" me. Come on! Install Google Talk. Email me at funnlim@gmail.com and I'll send out the invitation and then you add me into Google Talk. Come on! AWESOME STUFF!

What more can I say? My vocabulary like stuck in the 80s with Awesome. Ok, fabaulous! Magnificent! Amazing!

Or maybe not that amazing anymore. I just remembered JDG is really not coming to Malaysia.

Ok, depression kicking in. Why? WHY? WHY?!?!?!?

Twin of Brothers
Permanent link Post a Comment 10 comments

Very confusing series. We have brothers who are not brothers and a mother who was never their mother. THe costumes look ultra modern, with one girl in miniskirts in most scenes. We have 2 jokers as leading characters and from what I read in most reviews, the tone will become very very serious. It's not bad, thus far. But here's my take on it after about what? A few episodes...

1. The cinematography is unique and beautiful. I can see the effort in this area and I appreciate that, especially from a TVB series.

2. The costumes and make up reminds me of Storm Rider-neither the past nor the future but a fantasy wuxia flick and again it's unique

3. The kung fu is really something. How many years have I not seen those scenes where one kung fu fighter heals another with "hei kung"? This series is like the olden days of kung fu fighting scenes although I still feel most scenes are rather rushed.

4. Whilst I disagree with some casting decision and most performance right now are uninspired, I kinda appreciate the uniqueness of the chaarcters and the world they're in. It's not the usual stuff.

5. I like the fact that the 2 leads bared their buttocks for this series, unfortunately that scene was censored so well..useless sacrifice, at least in Malaysia that is.

I think I have repeated the same word many times already. I think at the end of the day this series give me an impression that it is unique. Unique in every sense that many may not be able to stomach it. I haven't read the book, will never read it so I wouldn't know which is better and what is missing and what is extra. I may not like many aspects of it but my eyes are glued on the TV just for a few minutes when there was this one scene; I think the villain meeting the 2 leads in a bamboo forest or something. That scene was beautiful, atmospheric and really, if more consideration has been given to actually set the right course for this series from episode 1, we may have a winner here. I don't like the comedy elements in the face of so many serious stuff. That is what I do not like.

I am still watching this series, every other day. Not much comment thus far.

Monday Split Second will debut. Saw the trailer, looks mighty confusing but should be gritty and I hope for once a drama should be a drama. No extra stuff, just give me what it is and not make it into another stuff.

Lisa Wang
Permanent link Post a Comment 3 comments

You know you had it in you when someone like Lisa Wang singing you praises like nobody's business. Mind you her praises are like "Oh I think he did exceedingly quite ok" which is like great compliment but when she says "She compliments my acting" or "Without her my performance will never work", you know you had it made man! And that is Lisa's opinion of Myolie Wu! Never heard her so generous in her praises. Did she say anything in that line about Shirley Yeung or Maggie Cheung? And you know what she said about Sammul Chan? "Oh he's so handsome, and he has such a beautiful speaking voice and I do think he has QUITE the potential". Very big difference as compared to her opinion of Myolie but hey, it's still a compliment!

Myolie, I think for once I like Lisa's preachiness!

Fad books
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

I remember posting about books becoming more of a fad than well, essential reading of the readers' kind. Anyway I am guilty of that too. I bought the complete version of The Chronicles of Narnia. I mean it has all the books in ONE volume plus a 20% discount, so it is about RM50 plus. You can get it from Popular Bookstores. They even have 20% for Harry Potter books and many more. No need to buy anything, straight 20%. And guess what? They're all selling Models and most of JDG's earlier series at about RM25-00 each and yes I am vomitting blood!

Anyway since Charmaine and Chilam will be close by my place later at 12pm, I think I am going to catch a glimpse of them. If I get to the right place.

Has anyone ever seen the movie Dreamcatcher starring Damian Lewis? That Stephen King book? I was wondering, is Duddets an alien? Care to share your thoughts on the ending with me and perhaps what's the real ending as in the book?

Memoirs of a Geisha
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

Haven't seen this and do not want to see this. But I am irked by THIS REVIEW which wrote

"Given that the filmmakers had already made the controversial decision to cast non-Japanese actors in key roles (apparently with the idea that Asian is Asian), wouldn’t it have made sense to cast Asian-Americans with a greater facility for English? Forcing such graceful actresses as Zhang and Michelle Yeoh – as the older geisha Mameha, who takes Sayuri under her wing – into the clumsy circumlocutions of English seems practically an insult."

Ok, Zhang Ziyi's English is horrible but I was impressed because she improved like 200% when I was watching the trailer, though she is 1000% over rated. But to say that of Michelle Yeoh is too much. She may not speak with an American or English accent, it is nonetheless a well known fact (and maybe not so well known over at the other end of the world) that she grew up speaking English! She feels more at home with English than sayyyy Cantonese! Grammar is great you know just accent is Malaysian. She is not a great actress but her English is great. I just wish for once some reviewers just get their facts right before commenting about something they have no knowledge of. I am guilty of wrong facts in the history sense but to comment on a person's so called clumsy English without knowing anything about that person is simply an insult to the viewers.

PREDICTION : Astro Wah Lai Toi Drama Awards 2005
Permanent link Post a Comment 2 comments

Astro Wah Lai Toi Drama Awards. Very weird list since some of these shows have yet to be shown on Wah Lai Toi so how can one actually vote for a show that technically one hasn't seen?? Anyway below are the nominees and I'll predict WHO WILL WIN and WHO I WANT TO WIN. Very big difference if you ask me. Show is on on 7th January 2006, 8:30pm. I am sure to catch it! I remember I think last year where Charmaine in green made a dramatic and very late appearance to collect her award. Quite an entrance and she must be feeling very cold because she was not dressed for cold weather. Anyway..the list...

WHO WILL WIN : No doubt, Chow Ming Hin which is very well acted and a very good character but Suen Ching Wah is more controversial and moving. This is one character that grows on you. A pity Chan Hung Lit is not as famous as Damien Lau. Damien Lau was great but impact has got to be Chan Hung Lit.

(5) Yee Shun - Charmaine Sheh [War and Beauty]

WHO I WANT TO WIN : Villain is it? Ermmm, technically Yee Soon is not a villain. And it's not Yee SHUN. No way that can be pronounced like the way it was pronounced. Lethal the keyword? Then it's Gigi Lai's Yuk Ying and also because her performance was lethal to the series.

WHO WILL IN : I think Gigi Lai. Since Sheren will win that one above, she will win this one. So Charmaine should get a Most Improved, but I don't think there's one.

(4) [Onn Sin walk with Hung Mo on the snow... - War and Beauty]
(5) [Little princess of Concubine Yu die...- War and Beauty]

WHICH I WANT IT TO WIN : Ahhh the Winter Sonata moment from War and Beauty. But I personally would want to see any scene between Suen Bak Yeung and Suen Ching Wah in here. Second choice would be Ming Hin announcing his wedding with Yuk Heng and Yin and ex wife falling from building.

WHICH WILL WIN : Very difficult to say...could be falling from building, announcing marriage or even and I seriously think this could be it, that death scene of little princess in War & Beauty.

(15) Yee Shun - Charmaine Sheh [War and Beauty]
(16) Hung Mo - Moses Chan [War and Beauty]
(17) Suen Bak Yeung - Bowie Lam [War and Beauty]
(18) Fung Chi Wai - Alex Fong [Split Second]
(19) Kao Chung - Raymond Lam [Twin Of Brothers]
(20) Tsui Zi Ling - Ron Ng [Twin Of Brothers]

WHO I WANT TO WIN : Pick how many? Just one or Top 10? Let's see, no. 2, 3, 5, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17 8 and I haven't seen Split Second nor do I like Twin of Brothers, so I think my list got 9 only. Maybe 4 also.

WHO WILL WIN : Who else? No. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 15 .. you know what? Everybody from War & Beauty (maybe Maggie will be snubbed), Dayo Wong, Ada Choi and the rest are fillers.

CONCLUSION
War & Beauty will be the biggest winner. No doubt about that. Did Bowie win anything for last year? Vigilante Force? Was it the one with the overcrowded male leads that all of them deserve a win? Can't remember. But I remember it should be last year in TVB awards that all 5 male leads were great and each of them deserve a win. Or was it the year before? Yeah yeah the year before last I think.

What are your predictions and who you actually wanna see win? Ok Sehseh, I know Charmaine is at the TOP of your list. For War & Beauty, I think that's a fair judgment.

Google Talk
Permanent link Post a Comment 6 comments

Anyone heard of Google Talk? I suspect it is ICQ-like application but maybe better? I have stopped using ICQ and I think MSN Messenger is not in use anymore in Malaysia right?

Anybody I know using Google Talk? Because if yes I will download it and when you're online and I'm online we can chat a bit. You know like old timers who like to use the Shout Box but for really real time talk, might as well use Google Talk.

Anyone?

Anyway just read in the requirements you'll need a Gmail account. So if you don't have one, just drop me an email at funnlim@gmail.com and I'll send you an invitation. I have 100 left.

My greatest fear
Permanent link Post a Comment 3 comments

I have moments of shallowness, and this is one of them.

You know what is my greatest fear? Right now? Right at this moment?

Nope, not nuclear war or not having a job or can't pay off my credit card bills (still can't actually) or getting really old overnight or being very sick.

My greatest fear, right now, right at this minute was what happened just 5 minutes ago and I wished it will never ever happen again.

Laugh if you like but for the 5 minutes when I was not able to log into my Streamyx account, something flashed before my eyes. My fear, greatest fear right there and then was that the worst has come true, I can't log in and I would have to call the customer interaction centre of TMNet whose motto is "You interract, We ignore". That was my greatest fear, still is. I am still trembling. Very scary thought.

JDG not coming to Malaysia
Nanyang Siang Bao, 2005/12/03 17:53:01

Korean actor Jang Dong Gun who is going to start his Asian promotional tour for the movie “The Promise” has cancelled his visit to Malaysia due to the problem of getting seats on the flight to Malaysia.

According to sources, JDG’s visit to Malaysia on 19 December was cancelled in the end mainly because of the problem of getting seats on the direct flight from Korea to Malaysia as the number of his entourage increase.

However, JDG’s schedule to visit Singapore on 14 December remains unchanged . The film company will arrange for the Malaysian media to go to Singapore to cover JDG’s visit to Singapore.

What? Suddenly an influx of Korean tourist to Malaysia is it? What a lame excuse! My heart is bleeding! The 2 days off I took is pointless! I am gonna cry! Why? Why?!? As if less people go to Singapore? Oh please....why desert us in the last minute oh worshipped one? Don't you know you have MORE fans in Malaysia than in Singapore? After all I am one of your fan! And many others! Worst reason ever!

See! See! We are snubbed, again and again and again. Now I know how it feels like to be rejected. Having such high hopes, planning and all and suddenly dropped to earth like THUD! and you realise Malaysia is indeed pariahs for big time movie stars!

Why? Why desert us? Why?

SIMS 2 : Meet the Gorgeous family

I thought you might like to meet the Sims that I pieced together and whom I named the Gorgeous family for obvious reasons.

Exquisitely Gorgeous
Or Exy to those who knows her!

I am particularly proud of this Sim woman that I pieced together. Love the hair and the lip gloss. I wanted her to look Chinese but well kinda like Chinese.

I am amazed at the selection of clothes and how someone could create such gorgeous looking hairstyles.

Very Gorgeous
Or Gorg to those who knows him.

I don't quite like this one. Tried as I could to make him look more manly, he ended up looking like the Sim woman, albeit the male version. Actually the same head but still very difficult to make him really handsome.

Pretty Gorgeous
Or Pretty.

This is actually the miniature version of the Sim woman. Hairstyle also the same. Quite a pretty girl but I had to make her face a bit rounded to actually look more like a child.

How I wish there is a Hogwarts version of The Sims. That would be fun! The Sims 2 aka Nightlife is GREAT! I am still building the house though. Very ambitious and they walk way too slow to get from one side to the other. Anyway Exy is married to Gorg and they both have Pretty as their daughter.

I'll post my progress of the game from time to time. Oh yeah, by the way they're multi millionaires! I kinda miss the Harry Potter theme as in Sims Magic I think it's called. Want it back!!

What about your Sims? Care to introduce them to me?

Documentary on Singapore
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

Just finished watching 3 episodes worth of the rise and rise of Singapore on Discovery Channel. Anyone with ASTRO do catch this interesting and insightful documentary. Definitely learnt a lot of stuff about our neighbour. For one, the government is something akin to a very shrewd military general cum businessman running a business. Lee Kuan Yew was very articulate and very outspoken and honest about his relationship with our own TAR, 1st Prime Minister who gave me an impression that he was as shrewd also but too many interests to take care of, which was why we can't beat Singapore economically and in the upholding of law and order. I applauded when the documentary talked about the caning of Michael Fay, and I say CANE HIM! But I am very curious about a man named Lim Chin Siong, who the documentary said was Lee Kuan Yew's greatest rival, politically. Wonder what happened to him? I am not saying the government is perfect but I get a sense that whatever they're doing they're doing for the good of the country. Not the people, I mean people must be reasonably happy but for the country. You must watch all 3 episodes.

One thing I didn't know, teachers never taught me. Malaya became Malaysia because the alphabets SI was incorporated after Singapore joined us. I didn't know that!

Have you ever had this feeling?
Permanent link Post a Comment 3 comments

Have you ever had this feeling where you want to do something which in itself is not illegal or immoral or anything bad but you just thought that well you don't really want to do it because it might seem childish to others and yet you are tempted to do it?

I have been thinking very seriously of joining Adonis International, but it's not cheap. It involves a yearly membership fee which I can afford but I will need to reveal info about myself which is not that good. I want to join to show my support but yet I don't feel like joining because it's just so silly. But everyone should have silly moments and mine just came like maybe 20 years too late? I am a late bloomer. I could get what I want, like news, pictures and everything from the forum but I don't know, I guess I like having a membership card or something.

I don't know! If I know the person who runs the fan club yes I'll join immediately but I don't know her and to reveal details like my passport number is a bit too much.

But I want to..very confused.

Abu Ghraib Scandal, Malaysian Style
Permanent link Post a Comment 7 comments

Hopefully right spelling.

Heard about this one? Read about it? Seen the video? Oh yeah, Malaysia is once again famous or infamous for some totally wrong reasons. And our politician's reply? Probably quote of the year, by asking the foreigners to leave if they don't like the cruel us. Of course he said he was misquoted. Under fire, we tend to blabber a lot. Well well well, I have the video. Seen it, am totally surprised by it but not shocked. Not the first whiff of police brutality I have heard of, won't be the last I know, just surprised one could record it and save it and distribute it and everybody seems aware of that video. Probably from some handphone? Wanna see that video my friends? Email me and I'll email to you. Can't post it up, after all it's bad news for Malaysia. I must say though, have we just managed to offend the world's largest consumer pool that is China? Dare we offend them more? What about the case of that poor Chinese boy, tied, beaten and drowned in the pool in his own uncle's house with no evidence of gates tempered with and too young to have any enemies, and yet no suspect and accused (several of them) acquitted because lack of evidence without defence being called. What about some cases of Chinese nationals being harrassed and some raped? I know there are many Chinese nationals who came here to work illegally, some became mistresses, some may be bad apples and sometimes I tend to agree that we should screen such people but once they're in here, and they shouldn't be here, well throw them out but without those "exercise" like in that video.

I mean interrogation is one thing, intimidation is also another thing but humiliation is so .... human isn't it? Not the first time we do this to others, I mean we could do it to our own even. What I find surprising though is the local newspaper publishing BIG BIG that ahhh don't tarnish the police, it's just one incident, blah blah blah. I mean one bad apple is enough to put me off the basket of apples, more so if you so happened to bite into that bad apple. That will put you off apples forever, good or bad. Our police may have tarnished our image right now, but I don't think our local politicians (with such a quotable quote so suitable for collections of biggest blunder quotes ever) and our local media helped much. I think our PM did it right by immediately saying set up an investigative committee and I think it would be wise to answer questions after investigation is over, publish the report for the public to see, hold a press conference and then answer the questions. Either that or put surveillance cameras in lock ups and in police cars. Our politician definitely need an intensive course in how to answer back to the media in the line of fire. I am sure this particular one would be personally enrolled into it by our PM.

I pity our PM. Already Time Magazine is saying he's saying loads of stuff but could hardly carry them out because he is a soft man, now this. It's like our PM tries so hard to make things transparent, to build a better and more justice based image and yet things like these happen and words such as those were uttered and in the our our PM got slap left and right by our very own people. I am sure the world is laughing at us. I am not laughing but you know I pity him.

Hollywood, are you reading this?
Permanent link Post a Comment 0 comments

Ah yes, this ARTICLE. Anyway wouldn't want to go to Hollywood and be treated like a pariah when I am the Prince of Asia, would I? Take Jackie Chan for an example, now Hollywood is begging for him to make a movie for them. JDG should follow the same advice.

By the way, THESE are possibly the worst posters I have ever seen. The colour schemes are simply too China-ish, reminds me of their military uniform, colour already eeeeee and it doesn't help that with constant ironing also looks horribly bad. The pictures and poses of the characters are also bad. Please someone tell Mr Chen Kaige, the posters are horrible. Learn from Harry Potter recent posters, amazing stuff.
