MY POINT IS [Comments & Opinions].
SERIES' SUMMARIES
Sometime in 2004 I began
reviewing selected
series in an episode by
episode way, where I
called these reviews
EPISODIC THOUGHTS.
These thoughts are
mostly summaries of each
and every episode with
my opinion of that
episode included in it
as well. I may not
provide the most in
depth summaries but I am
very proud of the fact
that I could keep the
writing on such a long
winded basis each and
every night for the
entirety of the series.
I don't do this for each
and every series though
because it kills a lot
of brain cells, mine as
well as fellow netizens
who often joined in the
discussion by posting
informative stuff. These
thoughts are still open
for feedback and
discussion. Do check
them all out in
REVIEWS where it is
indicated with an

Btw, if u think Issac is annoying in the beginning of TITS, u will totally hate Tin Chi (Chilam). He the perfact example of the good-for-nothing 'Bai Ga Jai'. But, just like u grow to like Issac, u will grow to like Tin Chi, when he started to change. :)

I didn't think much of that till I heard his interpretation. And that is one of the reasons why I'm gonna buy the DVD and rewatch Kungfu Hustle again to catch anything I might had missed the first time. :D
I'll reveal it after you give it some thought. :p
According to Molby (the Ling Lou producer), the lollipop represents - world peace. Yeah it sounds corny but but hear me out first.
Remember when Stephen Chow as a child first met the seller of the martial arts manual? The seller told him he had great bone structures perfect for martial arts. He should take up kung fu upkeep world peace. That's what the young Stephen tried to do.
Then when he attempted to prevent the bullies from stealing the lollipop but in the end was beaten and humiliated, that lollipop became the symbolism for world peace, that little idealism he wanted to upkeep after taking up martial arts. But because his martial arts failed him or maybe because he thought he could not live up to the expectation of being a hero, he was too ashamed to face the naive idealism he once possessed. The setback changed him and he began to crave to become a bully (joining the Axe gang), a bad guy instead.
So when the girl selling the ice cream showed him the lollipop to him again, he was once again reminded of the reason why he took up martial arts. Too ashamed, he quickly ran away.
In the end when he defeated the bad guy, notice that did not kill him. He stopped when the bad guy begged for mercy. There's almost a buddha-like mercifulness air around him. Peace is more precious than conflict. There's also a small scene when he countered the bad guy's hidden metallic flower weapon, took out the poison needle, and spun it in his hand and watch it fly and turn into something that looks like a lotus flower.
The ending had him opening a lollipop store. In a way it symbolises him trying to distribute peace to everyone, now that he had the ability to do so. This fits the theme "with power comes great responsibilities" of the movie.
Some of the things I mentioned are added by me but most of it is from the Ling Lou producer. Maybe it's reading too much into the movie but the fact that we can read much says alot about the way the movie is presented. Kung Fu Hustle can mean many things to different people, everyone brings something different home. I think this is the mark of a good movie.
