SELECTED POSTS

This page, NEWS & UPDATES which is actually the index page of this website has grown into a huge database of my almost daily ramblings of all stuff I hold dear to my heart, including gossips of the most sordid kind. For your convenience, I have posted a list of posts which I thought is pretty informative in my own way that you might find interesting. The list itself may be long but those selected few are the ones I thought drives home the point I wanted to make. Do check them out in MY POINT IS [Comments & Opinions].

SERIES' SUMMARIES

Sometime in 2004 I began reviewing selected series in an episode by episode way, where I called these reviews EPISODIC THOUGHTS. These thoughts are mostly summaries of each and every episode with my opinion of that episode included in it as well. I may not provide the most in depth summaries but I am very proud of the fact that I could keep the writing on such a long winded basis each and every night for the entirety of the series. I don't do this for each and every series though because it kills a lot of brain cells, mine as well as fellow netizens who often joined in the discussion by posting informative stuff. These thoughts are still open for feedback and discussion. Do check them all out in REVIEWS where it is indicated with an  [E] next to my name.

OFFBEAT STUFF

There is this one section in here that features offbeat stuff that are not entertainment based. The section is known as FUNN STUFF [COMMENTS & OPINIONS].

PERSONAL FAVOURITES

There are 3 sections in here that contain my personal favourites of all kinds. THE DDGs [COMMENTS & OPINIONS] which features specially made websites by myself with info & all related stuff of my favourite stars or stars I like to talk about, MEDIA & MUSIC FILES [DOWNLOADS] which has my favourite VODs and music files, most of them are taken from Chinese & Korean dramas & movies and some of which I am hosting for my net friends and THE STORYTELLERS [WEBSITES], where you'll find stories written by amateur writers like you and I.

Do check them all out!

The passing of Pope John Paul II
Permanent link Post a Comment

Ioannes Paulus PP. II, Karol Wojtyla, 18.5.1920 - 2.4.2005

A very sad news indeed. Sat whole night watching CNN and then watching a documentary on his works, many of which I was not aware of, until now of course, and after his death. Very ashamed of my ignorance. I could never imagine him being that young in the documentary and he was a very good looking man, with eyes shining with conviction and yet warmth. Like I could trust him. I always saw him as a very strong old man wrecked by disease but still managed to stand, bless, conduct his duty even when he can't speak much. I admire his strength and integrity. I believe his non violence stand on changes, more so political changes mirror that of Gandhi as well as the Dalai Lama. The more I watched CNN the more I feel a great man has gone, but of course back to the embrace of God. Maybe it should be a joyous occassion.

One priest quoted him as saying going to war in the name of God is blasphemous, is it a blasphemy against God. I can't agree more.

His death wasn't a shock but the fact and the idea that he is no longer amongst us mere mortal is still hard to accept. I really will miss him and the funny thing is I am not even Catholic, not even Christian but I feel the lost.

Anyway a bio on him here for those not familiar with this great man.

And I read, disappointingly that our government is not sending a representative, Indonesia sent 3. If this is true, I feel we should be ashamed of our tidak apa attitude.

Like you, I was never really aware of the Pope's work until now, other than the fact that he was the religious leader for the Catholic community.

However, after watching the documentary on Discovery Channel, I discovered a side of him which made me want to cry towards the end of the programme.

Perhaps it's the regret that I never took the effort to know more about this extrodinary man while he was alive, or maybe it's just that power of his achievements that strikes me.

His determination and strength despite his ailing health in creating a peaceful world touched me. Now, I'm thankful that he became the Pope in a time where the world was undergoing difficult times - the fight against communism, dictators, revolutions, ethnic wars, religious intolerance... I studied about the fall of the Berlin Wall and Communism, and heard about the fall of communism in Poland which started it all, yet I never knew that the Pope actually played a pivotal role in it.

I marvel at his attempts at bringing peace to Middle-East and Latin America, making peace between Muslims and Christians, and especially at his willingness to admit the Vatican's mistake of indifference during the Holocaust. As what the narrator said, even though the problems still persist until today, his success lies in that first step.

It's always comforting to know that even in times of turmoil, when all humanity seems to have disappeared, there is someone willing to make a difference in a quiet and peaceful way. It's an irony that amidst all the unrest and violence, I believe that deep down inside, peace - and with it happiness - is what everyone yearns for in the end. Such a simple wish, yet it's so hard to achieve. I'm glad that the Pope has made the first step.

As I've said in my blog, I'm not a Catholic, but his achievements truely transcend beyond religion and into the common good of mankind. I felt this deepest when he said in an interview in reference to whether there can be a holy union among Muslims, Catholics and Jews, and he said something to the effect that Catholism embraces not only Catholics, but all who are good at heart.

And yes, going to war in the name of God is blasphemous, is it a blasphemy against God. I can't agree more too.
