SELECTED POSTS
This page, NEWS & UPDATES which is
actually the index page of this website has
grown into a huge database of my almost
daily ramblings of all stuff I hold dear to
my heart, including gossips of the most
sordid kind. For your convenience, I have
posted a list of posts which I thought is
pretty informative in my own way that you
might find interesting. The list itself may
be long but those selected few are the ones
I thought drives home the point I wanted to
make. Do check them out in
MY POINT IS [Comments & Opinions].
SERIES' SUMMARIES
Sometime in 2004 I began
reviewing selected
series in an episode by
episode way, where I
called these reviews
EPISODIC THOUGHTS.
These thoughts are
mostly summaries of each
and every episode with
my opinion of that
episode included in it
as well. I may not
provide the most in
depth summaries but I am
very proud of the fact
that I could keep the
writing on such a long
winded basis each and
every night for the
entirety of the series.
I don't do this for each
and every series though
because it kills a lot
of brain cells, mine as
well as fellow netizens
who often joined in the
discussion by posting
informative stuff. These
thoughts are still open
for feedback and
discussion. Do check
them all out in
REVIEWS where it is
indicated with an

next to my name.

Saying sorry isn't that hard to do ... Permanent link ▫ ▫
I am referring to the latest sorry state of the whole blown up issue of Japan and their textbooks over the WWII and their role in it and of course the whole political side of it as well as the emotional side of it.
There was an interesting debate as to which was worse; the Nazis or the Japanese back then. Some said of course te Japanese because they forced women to be comfort women, nice name for daily rape and the scientific researches as well as the massacres. Some said Nazis because concentration camp, they turned the Jews, human beings mind you into soaps and lanterns and what nots as well as scientific research and forced labour.
My view is both as evil, as evil as the Al Qaedas.
But the whole textbook thing, I understand the anger. I am Chinese too though I never lived through that period of time, wasn't born yet. Even the Koreans were angry and understandably so. But it went totally out of hand and out of control when I saw Jusco being attacked, Japanese restaurants vandalised and destroyed (apparently not in Shanghai though...) and even Japanese cars were not left out of the mob anger. I think we must all stay focused. Attacking Jusco isn't making the right statements. Maybe throw stones at the embassasies but I like to believe China has 5000 years of culture, so I like to believe we must not behave like hooligans however angry we may be. It is the Japanese, in this regard the Japanese government who can't see through their own thick heads to know that a simple sorry may ease the pain. The Germans did it, we don't blame the younger generations, we even educate the young ones so as not to repeat the mistakes and the astrocities of their ancestors. But the Japanese youths may or may not know the truth, they may or may not know the reasons, they may or may not know the ugly truth about their own pasts. In wars, there are no winners I guess but as much as there are so called gracious winners, there must be gracious losers. For a society that practices such culture in even making a pot of tea, I am very surprised that a simple sorry wasn't forthcoming. I do not think it is a matter of paying compensation. Japanese CEOs have been known to apologise for fraudulent acts in public, they apologise for everything except for the past. I don't blame the youths, I won't boycott sushi or throw stones at Jusco or destroy the Honda or kick the Toyota or even stare rudely at a Japanese fellow ... I do feel a bit angry for the fact that by nt admitting it and not saying sorry for this one thing and yet saying sorry for everything else, the government seems to be of the position that what happened in the past, not just the war but the direct result of it, the testings, the rapes, the massacres, the torture, it seems they bask in the glory of it all. That to me is dangerous. False humbleness does not suffice.
At this point of my life and everyone else, I don't think we actually expect the Japanese government to really kneel and say sorry sorry sorry and pay pay pay. But I do expect some decency; to tell the truth in the history books, even if the books may be rarely used or even if the Japanese public knew the truth despite the lack of honesty. I don't think that is forthcoming and it is just too sad because as the world moves on to better themselves, the ones unwilling to admit failure, to admit their inadequacies, to admit their weaknesses are not only ignorant, but they're recreating a false history and therefore a false identity.
Be like the Germans. Own up, pay up, move on and gain some measure of respect for the sake of its future generations.
I understand the anger, though I do not agree with the reactions of it. But I understand also people still remember and for therm to continue to hide behind their own versions of events when the world knows the real version, people will always remember and you can't blame these mobs for destroying your Toyotas. Sad thing is the ones who suffer may be the little people, the ones who may own up to the past but the big guns still sit comfortably in their office and when all these die down, they lay low for awhile thinking it may all be over. The hurt is far too deep for it to be over in just a few decades. Generations to come must be reminded not really the hardships of war or the battle for freedom but they must be reminded, as I am reminding myself everyday the astrocities one can commit in the name of their Emperor, in the name of their beliefs, in the name of their Gods and in the name of their prejudice. And the scary thing is some may not even realise what they did was wrong and when one sees no wrong in the astrocities they have or is committing, I believe there is no more hope for the survival of human beings. We are not mere mortals; we are worse than animals.
Save your stone, don't throw it at the Japanese or Jusco. I believe the truth always prevail, and if they don't, you have your own textbook, take it out and read it to them. If they don't listen or refuse to believe or may be too brainwashed to even comprehend what you're trying to say, like the terrorrists we see today, I guess the only solution is not to act as they are acting, not to shower them with love, I believe in compassion. I believe every human being has the capacity to admit wrongs, to forgive and more importantly, the infinite ability to see through the shoes of the other side and come up with a middle way.
In fact I think everybody should consider the Buddhist philosophy to life. To me it isn't a religion; it is beyond that, it is a philosophy that can be reconciled with all religions as I believe all religions teach one universal truth; goodness of the human being. Interpretations may vary of course, in fact wrong interpretations may happen everyday but maybe, just maybe, and I hope so that one day, like the quote I love to use from the book Angela's Ashes and not an exact quote but the spirit of it;
"When I look back into the past, I see what could have been, but I was glad for all that it was"
because all that it was form the basis of who we are now and who we are now forms the basis of the direction of who we will be. I do not wish for what happened in the past to happen again but it happened. Learn from it and try to avoid it I guess.
Which is why I believe saying sorry isn't that hard to do, when you know you're wrong and you know you're sorry. Things are a bit more complicated when you don't think you were wrong, you don't think you should be sorry and you don't think you should own up to the past to which you had no part in creating. BS of course if you ask me. A government always represent their predecessors as well as setting the tone for their successors.
And the first step for us is to stop the angry mobs from finding every little excuse to vandalise as that is besides and beyond the point and for them to write history as it was.
Isn't that difficult right?

They are the ones who are really in the position to forgive Japan. But what we have now is Japan pretending that comfort women never existed. The comfort women are old and have a foot in the grave. They are not in it purely for the money. They want Japan to acknowledge her war past and the things they did to them. Is that too much to ask?
If their wishes are not fulfilled before their deaths, you can bet the younger generation will continue to carry the burden of making sure Japan faces up to her war past. And their demands on Japan will get harsher as the years roll by as Japan continues to have amnesia.
But first we should all stop the mob attacks. Not very good to continue this way as anger won't solve problems, makes us look bad when it should be the Japanese who should feel, look bad.
Very emotional right. Can't think right.
