SERIES' SUMMARIES

Sometime in 2004 I began reviewing selected series in an episode by episode way, where I called these reviews EPISODIC THOUGHTS. These thoughts are mostly summaries of each and every episode with my opinion of that episode included in it as well. I may not provide the most in depth summaries but I am very proud of the fact that I could keep the writing on such a long winded basis each and every night for the entirety of the series. I don't do this for each and every series though because it kills a lot of brain cells, mine as well as fellow netizens who often joined in the discussion by posting informative stuff. These thoughts are still open for feedback and discussion. Do check them all out in REVIEWS where it is indicated with an  [E] next to my name.

OFFBEAT STUFF

PERSONAL FAVOURITES

There are 3 sections in here that contain my personal favourites of all kinds. THE DDGs [COMMENTS & OPINIONS] which features specially made websites by myself with info & all related stuff of my favourite stars or stars I like to talk about, MEDIA & MUSIC FILES [DOWNLOADS] which has my favourite VODs and music files, most of them are taken from Chinese & Korean dramas & movies and some of which I am hosting for my net friends and THE STORYTELLERS [WEBSITES], where you'll find stories written by amateur writers like you and I.

To Love with No Regrets & Riches And Stitches
Permanent link Post a Comment

So far I really enjoy watching TVB's To Love With No Regrets, my favourite character being the ever poetic but depressingly poetic Cheng Sin. Wonderful performance by I think his name is Chan Kwok Pong.

Someone once told me most fans wanted Amy Kwok to be with Bosco Wong. I beg to differ. She probably washed him when he was little! Doesn't seem right to me. I really like Amy with Evergreen Mak, who looks very handsome in here and lost quite a lot of weight.

The character I least liked used to be the Grandmother but the episode I was watching she changed. So now my dislike is towards Annie Man, her character is disgusting and her performance supposed to be full of malice but all sweet girly looking Annie can muster is just a mean stare. Quite an inadequate performance. But still too early to tell.

Thus far I really enjoyed Amy Kwok's performance. And this series even mentioned Kuala Lumpur several times! Yeah!

I want a happy ending, and I know it will be a happy ending. The way the series is heading, it looks like

1. the young girl will be with Bosco
2. Bosco may marry the young girl as second wife or maybe divorce Amy so that she can be free to pursue her own love, that is Evergreen who is obviously smitten with her.

I really liked the premise where Evergreen and Wayne Lai (another disgusting character BUT a winning performance) who like Amy and kept calling her "Big Missus" but really hate the young husband! What a conflict.

As for Riches & Stitches which will soon become Bitches and Snitches, it's like a fashion show but I am not complaining. One hot kissing scene between Kong Wah and Melissa Ng but could have been better, HK actors especially TVB ones aren't very good at passionate kisses. But the scene was there and quite surprised me you know. The one person in there I love watching, other than Kong Wah is Anne Heung who may have given her best performance todate, which is still not great but considering this is Anne Heung...

My question with this series is how everybody ended up swapping their boyfriends and girlfriends with one another?

Oh don't tell me. Just take this as my brain doing the wondering and talking.

Nest two new series coming soon is Lady Fan (musch criticised and I do think I know why-Joe Ma, Jess-sorry to say, even befoe it began I am already bored to semi-unconcious state) and Hard Fate (looks interesting but the way the trailer went, so many people dead).

I wonder when War & Beauty will be shown?

I haven't watched "To Love" but i heard that the series was good. Maybe I'll rent this series depending on your future review :)

About R&S, the love plot can be too repetitive. You'lll know what I mean later. I rented this series when it came out initially because of Kong Wah and those beautiful qipaos. Up to date, there's only two series which made me (& my sis) think : "Give us our money back!"; Ritches & Stiches and Blade Heart. I take that back. BH made me want to destroy my tv set. Btw, have Wah Lai Toi shown Blade Heart yet?

Out of the recent TVB series, I really like "To Love..." It a sweet and romantic series, even though there isn't a passionate love scene. I like the storyline between evergreen & amy and power chan (i think that's his name) & the eldest sister (angela tong? It's been a while since i've watched the series).

Sehseh, these 2 series that bad??

I don't think ASTRO has shown Blade Heart. This must be a costume drama right? Don't think so. You can basically predict what's next for ASTRO as all TVB series shown is about 1 year after their world wide release. Frankly the only one time I remember wanting to destroy my TV set was when watching Return of The Cuckoo, not so much about the performances but more about the story and the characters.

Anonymous, yep I think his name is Power Chan. What a name! That lady is not Angela Tong. Her name is Sherming something, I forgot her surname, one of those that I thought got potential but never given a chance to realise that potential. I agree with you, it is a sweet series but romantic? Not quite there yet I guess.

yes ! Hard Fate is good , watch it for Kevin Cheng and Damain Lau . I saw this already and really love Kevin Cheng after this series .

[ To Love ] the actress name is Sherming Yiu i think . Yesterday scene was kinda sweet when the grandma decide to cook for Amy for a change and she's so touch and I must say her sifu's death was rather shock for me . Also I wonder what is the exact timeline for this series coz the name Kuala Lumpur existed only in the 1860s

[ rags] I love watching Kong Wah here . You can see he likes Anne heung . I love this pair compare to the Moses -Anne pairing which i find don't have enough chemistry . He also look nice in the cheong sam :P

Sammie, I would say the timeline was accurate. It was Man Chor period, after the fall of the Qing Dynasty, so it must be around 1920s? probably earlier? Definitely beyond 1860. It was funny though to hear Ka-la-lam-poo.

Haha... Ritches & Stitches made me THINK that I was cheated of my money. Blade Heart; I was literally SCREAMING off my lung.

The only good thing in R&S is Kong Wah & the costumes. The rest, err...let's just say there's a lot of over-acting and under-acting of equal proportion. Plus the storyline goes nowhere near the last quarter of this series.

For Blade Heart, the acting was just painful and the plot was ridden with holes. Big ones :P
Not even Adam Cheng, Raymond or Mimi could save the series. As my sister said, "watching paint dry is much entertaining". We were cheated by the impressive trailer and first 2 episodes. The rest goes downhill at snails pace. *spoilers* People (including myself) are literally asking the rental shop when Shirley's character gonna dies. Seriously, it was that horrible.

I totally enjoyed TLWNR! I had my doubts as it was released after the much raved Square Pegs (which I adored) and the plot was pretty much similar, in a way. Bosco's acting amazed me... and impressed me more in Wong Fei Hung. Amy Kwok was great as well.

RS, on the other hand, even I... the one who watches practically everything couldn't even watch on. I love Moses, but Anne can be quite hard to digest sometimes (no offense!). Even the gorgeous qipaos couldn't bring me to continue.

Funn, I remember having to wait for everything that was on Wah Lai Toi back in M'sia.

I urge you to watch Hard Fate. Damien thoroughly impressed me in PONR and even more so in Hard Fate. And I turned into such a Kevin admirer... great eye candy and definitely one series where he gets to show off his acting abilities i.e. non-plastic character.

For Hard Fate, definitely watch. It is Kevin's best performance to date. He had really good chemistry with Niki Chow, they looked great together. Also watch out for extended shower scene of Kevin in soap suds. :)

TLWNR started out promising, but I didn't like the cookie cutter ending and what happens to Power's character.

Actually I could think of a few series which made me want to throw my tv out:

"Twin of Brothers" (with Ron and Raymond)...very slow moving and regurgitated plot

"The Academy" - aside from Michael Miu and Michelle Yim's performances, the rest are literally whiny kids in officer uniform. Very annoying and immature characters.

"Strike At Heart" Really one of the year's worst. Another series led by Joe.

I never finish "Ritches & Stiches". I watch a few episodes then lost interest and never go back to it again.

On the other hand, I loves Blade Heart. One of my favourite TVB series. The only thing I don't like is the ending. As usual, TVB failed to tie up the loose ends. I can understand why many people don't like Blade Heart. This is a very very serious series. Hardly any light-hearted moment in it. The series is also pretty depressing. Very unlike the usual TVB series. More like China series.

I never had the urge to throw things at my TV, but I can say, with no uncertainty, that Return To The Cuckoo is my most hated TVB series ever. Totally can't stand the pretentiousness of this series.

Funn, it was me who told u that most fans wanted Amy Kwok to be with Bosco. That was really the case in New TVB Series Forum. Bosco:Evergreen is like 5:2.
Actually, I also want Amy to end up with Bosco. I like untypical outcome. Something unconventional from TVB. But I can see that Amy is more compatible with Evergreen. So, I agree that she should end up with Evergreen too.

Hard Fate started out like a light-hearted romance story but change direction half-way, so it became dead serious. Anyway, it's not a bad series. Quite OK.

Got a shock of my life...11 comments including my own! I thought someone double posted but no such thing!

Well Kidd, you and I agree on ONE thing..Return of the Cuckoo. Simply hated it with all my being.

Jayne, your "Also watch out for extended shower scene of Kevin in soap suds" statement has just got me interested in this series! Hmmm extended? Soap suds? Alone or with someone??

Seseh, I have a feeling War And Beauty will be shown on ASTRO later this year. But I am very sure that Charlie's Angels rip off will be showed first, then probably War And Beauty.

Everybody, I actually like Riches And Stitches. Everybody did well I think, Anne Heung included but I do agree, at this moment it is a bit slow mo but still interesting enough. No, I take back my statement. Gigi Lai tried too hard, Michael Tong still as boring as ever though his character almost died tonight..and those Melissa Ng and other men kissing scenes..they looked more like fighting scenes to me. Really they must all take kissing and love scenes classes...

"Twin of Brothers" - I never finish this series either. I stop after my favourite character died. Too crappy to continue.

"The Academy" - I like this series. Yes, the young actors have still a long way to go in terms of acting, but I think the series itself is good. I like the fact that they toned down on the romance and focus more on the cadet training. There seem to be not much happening in the series, but the characters are actually slowly changing episode by episode. Immature characters becoming more mature and reserve characters become more open. But I have to admit that storyline outside the cadets school are pretty like boring except the story between Sammul and Micheal.

"Strike At Heart" - Plot wise, it's not bad. But the color scheme of this series is horrible. It makes the series look dull and old. Never have I seen such bad color scheme in a series. On the other hand, this series has the coolest way of carrying weapons by the characters.

As for "War And Beauty". I guess I'm the odd one out. I don't really think it's that great a series. I only started liking the series on the final episode (not because it's going to end, but because this episode is really well done). The neverending backstabbing is very tiring. I prefer the "Conqueror's Story" a lot better.

"Angel Of Mission" is just and entertaining fluff series nor to be taken seriously. In the series, gender roles are totally reverse. The girls are the strong competant one who kick butts and do things while the guys' only function is to be the love interest of the girls. Ok, not all guys are useless. The bad guys still kick butts. It's the good main guys that is the flower vase. The only kick butt good guy who has more things to do than flower vase duty is a cameo character (and also my favourite character), and even he need rescuing. :P

Gigi Lai seems to always try to hard in series. She also way overacts in WAB.

what you think of themesong for the series?

i like themesong for to love with no regrets. it beautiful.

themesong for ritches and stitches was just ok.

The Academy is a remake of the Police Cadet right? I am sure the story must have lost some of its original zing. I remember Police Cadet, everybody was perfectly cast.

Now War And Beauty should be renamed Bitches And Snitches from what was discussed in here. I for one love back stabbing women in cat fights, ala Qiong Yau Qing Dynasty series. I grew up watching the older but no necessarily wiser first wife kicking the butt of the oh so in love much younger and much gentler but much more annoying second wife. And this is only in an ordinary Bei Le Yeh household, more so in the palace. I eagerly await WAB.

Nina, I quite like To Love With No regrets' themesong but unlike Vigilante Force, it is not memorable enough to stick in my memory. As for Riches & Stitches, the themesong sounds like someone dying BUT the ones sang by Melissa Ng in the night club, all very nice. Wonder where can I download them?

But thus far I really like my Changing Lanes themesong which until now I can't find the bloody song to download. Even Zero sounds great. Ermm these are Mandarin songs from Singapore series by the way.

No, The Academy is not a remake of Police Cadet.

People thought it was a remake of Police Cadet because they have a similar premise. But the stories and characters are entirely different.

I can't bring myself to watch The Academy, even though Sammul and Miu Kiu Wai is in there. Coz Ron Ng is there. First LITCOL, now TA and after this is Courageous KunLun *groans*

I agree with Kidd, i like "the conqueror's story" more than WAB. the pacing, the storyline, the costumes in TCS were great. IMO, it also has one of the saddest scenes of tv series.

yesterday episode for Riches and Stitches was really sweet where Kong Wah listen to Anne Heung's advice and stop the gambling thing and when they're having such a good time over dinner with Anne Heung showing him how to eat crabs , Chan Ho have to show up arrrrgggggg ....

I was wondering did Anne Heung took that San Ye hint that Kong Wah likes her coz she mention that Kong Wah is just her boss blah blah ..

Funn, just wanted to elaborate on my comment on Kevin's shower scene (hahha it is not with a female co-star, otherwise TVB would be highly criticized by family viewers). I forgot which episode it occurs in, but it is definitely within the first 1/4 of the series. Basically, Kevin was showering and the phone rings, so it shows him from the waist up for like 5 mins. I think it was Nikki Chow calling him, playing some sort of prank (the scene occurs when she first enters the series). Kevin, although lacking a large frame, has significant biceps. :) Make sure to watch and you can judge for yourself.
