SELECTED POSTS

This page, NEWS & UPDATES which is actually the index page of this website has grown into a huge database of my almost daily ramblings of all stuff I hold dear to my heart, including gossips of the most sordid kind. For your convenience, I have posted a list of posts which I thought is pretty informative in my own way that you might find interesting. The list itself may be long but those selected few are the ones I thought drives home the point I wanted to make. Do check them out in MY POINT IS [Comments & Opinions].

SERIES' SUMMARIES

Sometime in 2004 I began reviewing selected series in an episode by episode way, where I called these reviews EPISODIC THOUGHTS. These thoughts are mostly summaries of each and every episode with my opinion of that episode included in it as well. I may not provide the most in depth summaries but I am very proud of the fact that I could keep the writing on such a long winded basis each and every night for the entirety of the series. I don't do this for each and every series though because it kills a lot of brain cells, mine as well as fellow netizens who often joined in the discussion by posting informative stuff. These thoughts are still open for feedback and discussion. Do check them all out in REVIEWS where it is indicated with an  [E] next to my name.

OFFBEAT STUFF

There is this one section in here that features offbeat stuff that are not entertainment based. The section is known as FUNN STUFF [COMMENTS & OPINIONS].

PERSONAL FAVOURITES

There are 3 sections in here that contain my personal favourites of all kinds. THE DDGs [COMMENTS & OPINIONS] which features specially made websites by myself with info & all related stuff of my favourite stars or stars I like to talk about, MEDIA & MUSIC FILES [DOWNLOADS] which has my favourite VODs and music files, most of them are taken from Chinese & Korean dramas & movies and some of which I am hosting for my net friends and THE STORYTELLERS [WEBSITES], where you'll find stories written by amateur writers like you and I.

Do check them all out!

TVB Awards - Looking into my crystal ball whilst avoiding "Vomit Blood and Bursting of Blood Vessels" signs
Permanent link Post a Comment

I hope to find the full list somewhere so that I can make my predictions, so do tag the links to the Shout Box as I add to this post. Thanks!

Ok maybe more like TVB own perception of popularity award but most improved award, TVB usually got it right like maybe 3 out of 4 times? Except for that Shirley Yeung time. Like I said at that time, yes she improved, from worst to worse. Anyway she is still the worst to me. Below are my predictions in italic

TVB Best Supporting Actor Awards Top 10

02. Andrew Lian - The Last Breakthough
03. Bosco Wong - The Last Breakthough
06. Power Chan - Wong Fei Hung - Master Of Kung Fu
09. Ha Yu - My Family
12. Paul Chun - Love Bond
16. Wayne Lai - Scanvenger Paradise's
24. Wayne Lai - The Gentle Crackdown
42. John Chiang - Revolving Doors Of Vengeance
52. Kenneth Ma - Into Thin Air
58. Hiu Siu Hung - Life Made Simple

There is a best supporting award finally! And my god! How to choose? Most of them are acting powerhouse and I haven't see any of the series! Based entirely on reputation and I think Paul Chun con something before, I would say Wayne Lai, Power Chan or Hui Siu Hung. My heart and wish is with Wayne Lai, for any of the roles he is nominated with. This man is acting genius. Luckily it is not JTTW year if not I don't know who to choose! Definitely not Kenneth Ma. Bad actor. Who is Andrew Lian??

TVB Best Supporting Actress Awards Top 10

01. Kiki Sheung - The Last Breakthough
09. Rebecca Chan - My Family
14. Joyce Tang - The Prince's Shadow
10. Michelle Yim - The Academy
22. Michelle Yim - The Gentle Crackdown
29. Christine Ng - War Of In-Laws
36. Mary Hon - Revolving Doors of Vengeance
37. Elaine Yiu - Revolving Doors Of Vengeance
44. Kiki Sheung - The Charm Beneath
48. Angela Tong - Life Made Simple

Never seen any of these series so my prediction is based on reputation and news. Less powerhouse than the best supporting actor but still few good ones in here. Probably Kiki Sheung or Michelle Yim BUT I have a feeling it could be Angela Tong because this is considered her breakout role and she garnered a lot of fans and accolades for going ugly and being very cute at it. So I would say Angela Tong because fans' voting and TVB's opinion must count. Acting skills solely, of course Rebecca Chan, Michelle Yim, Kiki Sheung, Mary Hon and reluctantly Christine Ng

Top 10 TVB Most Improved Actor Awards

01. Bosco Wong - The Last Breakthough
03. Bosco Wong - Wong Fei Hung - Master Of Kung Fu
05. Hawrick Lau - My Family
11. Kenneth Ma - Scanvenger's Paradise
12. Sammul Chan - The Academy
15. Johnson Lee - The Gentle Crackdown
19. Bosco Wong - War Of In-Laws
20. Raymond Cho - Healing Hands III
24. Ellesmore Choi - Revolving Doors Of Vengeance
26. Raymond Cho - Hidden Treasures

Sad but true. Haven't see any of the above series but based on past records and popularity, I feel it could be Bosco Wong. He's not that bad actually. Surprisingly Ellesmere Choi and Raymond Cho got nominated as well. These 2 are practically veterans so I feel this award is like a slap to their face. Does TVB have Most Popular Supporting Actor? They should.

Top 10 TVB Most Improved Actress Awards

01. Leila Tong - The Last Breakthough
04. Halina Tam - Shades Of Truth
07. Bernice Liu - Love Bond
09. Tavia Yeung - The Prince's Shadow
16. Niki Chow - The Gentle Crackdown
23. Bernice Liu - Healing Hands III
27. Winnie Yeung - Revolving Doors Of Vengeance
28. Elaine Yiu - Revolving Doors Of Vengeance
34. Leila Tong - Life Made Simple
36. Selina Li - Real Kung Fu

Also haven't seen any of the series above AND don't even know some of the names. Based on experience and the fact that perhaps it may be the right time, either Tavia Yeung or Leila Tong. I suspect Tavia Yeung. If Winnie Yeung wins, you can safely say I am both shocked and apalled. You know who should be in this list? Charmaine Sheh. I think she can win this but not the other more highly congested and over publicised popularity award, Most Favourite Actress. If anything this is one award (this most improved) has some substance to it. Charmaine should first be in here and then move elsewhere.

Tavia already won most improvement before, I think in the same year that Raymond won. . . so highly unlikely that she will win this again. As for Leila, she's actually a child star so to say that it took her 20 years to get improvement award would also be a slap on the face. My vote goes to Niki Chow.

Yes I agree with your prediction that Bosco will win, most likely for War of In Laws....

As for most improved female artist, it's a little tricky. It really depends on whether TVB wants to give it to insiders or not. If it's insider, then it would be Bernice Liu (although she probably still doesn't deserve the award yet, given this year's competitor's performances).

If TVB is willing to give the award to an outsider (not under management contract), then I think Niki Chow stands a very good chance, followed by Leila Tong.

Nearing the anniversary awards, TVB always wants to create more media buzz as to who wins, where all along they have probably decided who already. I think Bernice will most likely snag the award....

Surprised you didn't make predictions in other award categories and only commented on the Most Improved awards. :)

lyonna, Tavia won before? So why is she being nominated again? Yeahhhh she won for vigilante force! So what this means is she is so good she has twice improved herself? Ok you're right...I would say Leila Tong as no. 1 and Bernice Liu but I don't think she's that good to start with. Niki chow a bit too soon.

Jayne I want to make other predictions but I don't have the full list!

hmmmm. . . I think Tavia is at a spot where she's passed the most improvement stage and not ready for the best leading actress award yet, but tvb wants us to recognize that she's still around, so they nominate her in BOTH category. And that's the thing too, I don't remember about other years, but this year, several people are nominated in both the improvement and the best leading categories. Seems like the improvement is not for "newcomers" anymore. . . .

Funn, you mentioned you didn't have the complete list of people in the top 10 for best actor and actresses. Here's the list (I pulled it from Kitson's site tvbonthespot.blogspot.com).

Best Actress
1. Kenix Kwok - Revolving Doors of Vengeance
2. Kenix Kwok - Revolving Doors of Vengeance
3. Jessica Hsuan - Life Made Simple
4. Jessica Hsuan - Just Love
5. Liza Wang - War of In-Laws
6. Myolie Wu - War of In-Laws
7. Gigi Lai - Beneath the Charm
8. Sheren Tang - The Prince's Shadow
9. Melissa Ng - Into Thin Air
10. Louisa So - Misleading Track

Best Actor
1. Michael Miu - Into Thin Air
2. Michael Miu - The Academy
3. Bowie Lam - Misleading Track
4. Roger Kwok - Life Made Simple
5. Ron Ng - Revolving Doors of Vengeance
6. Joe Ma - Revolving Doors of Vengeance
7. Moses Chan - The Gentle Crackdown
8. Bosco Wong - War of In-Laws
9. Chung King Fai - My Family
10. Nick Cheung - The Last Breakthrough

As for best series etc, it's really the same series that you see nominated in the best actor/ actresses categories.

For Kenix Kwok there is an error, she was double nominated for Love Bond and Revolving Doors of Vengenance.

Normination doesn't mean anything. All the actors and actresses that have fairly important/large roles in series that out in year 2005 is on at least 1 of the normination lists. Some normination is downright baffling, like Ellesmere Choi being norminated for Lead Actor Award for his supporting role in Hidden Treasures. Sammul Chan, whose role is as heavy as Ron Ng in The Academy, doesn't even make it to the Supporting Actor Award list for that role while his lady partner Fiona Sit is norminated for Lead Actress for her role in The Academy. Also, looking at the full list, I think TVB have quota for each series, like those quota system in M'sia uni admission. Maybe that's why Sammul didn't make it to the Lead Actor list. The 2 norminees quota for that series has been filled up.

The Top 10 lists, I think, are based on public votes and those are the front-runners with the most votes.

As for Leila Tong. I think she deserves the Most Improved Award. Her winning that award doesn't mean she took 20 years to improve. The award is for most improvement in year 2005, and frankly, I can't think of any better candidate. The 2nd most deserving candidate should be Selena Li. She did show inprovement in her performance in Real Kungfu compared to her earlier effor in Just Love. But I think her performance in Life Made Simple is more deserving of the award. Bernice Liu is cute, but her acting is still not good. Never seen The Gentle Crackdown and not a fan Nikki Chow. So, won't comment on her.

Bosco Wong is also deserving of the Most Improved Award for his role in War Of In-Laws. Btw, I don't get why Raymond Cho's role in Hidden Treasures can get him to top 10. It took me a while to even remember what role he played in that series.

On the Best Supporting Actor Award, Bosco's place should be taken by Leung Ka Yan. Leung was awesome in Real Kungfu. I think actors of The Charm Beneath and Real Kungfu are at a disadvantage. The series only started airing half-way through the voting period.

Btw, Funn, don't u think u should at least have watch 'Into Thin Air' first before calling Kenneth a bad actor? Your measurement is based on his last year's performance which is a bit ourtdated, don't u think? People can improve in a year. I'm not saying he deserves the award. Actors like Wayne Lai and Power Chan certainly deserve the award more (I hope on of them win). But his acting could have improved to acceptable or even good level in that 1 year.
