SELECTED POSTS

This page, NEWS & UPDATES which is actually the index page of this website has grown into a huge database of my almost daily ramblings of all stuff I hold dear to my heart, including gossips of the most sordid kind. For your convenience, I have posted a list of posts which I thought is pretty informative in my own way that you might find interesting. The list itself may be long but those selected few are the ones I thought drives home the point I wanted to make. Do check them out in MY POINT IS [Comments & Opinions].

SERIES' SUMMARIES

Sometime in 2004 I began reviewing selected series in an episode by episode way, where I called these reviews EPISODIC THOUGHTS. These thoughts are mostly summaries of each and every episode with my opinion of that episode included in it as well. I may not provide the most in depth summaries but I am very proud of the fact that I could keep the writing on such a long winded basis each and every night for the entirety of the series. I don't do this for each and every series though because it kills a lot of brain cells, mine as well as fellow netizens who often joined in the discussion by posting informative stuff. These thoughts are still open for feedback and discussion. Do check them all out in REVIEWS where it is indicated with an  [E] next to my name.

OFFBEAT STUFF

There is this one section in here that features offbeat stuff that are not entertainment based. The section is known as FUNN STUFF [COMMENTS & OPINIONS].

PERSONAL FAVOURITES

There are 3 sections in here that contain my personal favourites of all kinds. THE DDGs [COMMENTS & OPINIONS] which features specially made websites by myself with info & all related stuff of my favourite stars or stars I like to talk about, MEDIA & MUSIC FILES [DOWNLOADS] which has my favourite VODs and music files, most of them are taken from Chinese & Korean dramas & movies and some of which I am hosting for my net friends and THE STORYTELLERS [WEBSITES], where you'll find stories written by amateur writers like you and I.

Do check them all out!

Twin of Brothers
Permanent link Post a Comment

Very confusing series. We have brothers who are not brothers and a mother who was never their mother. THe costumes look ultra modern, with one girl in miniskirts in most scenes. We have 2 jokers as leading characters and from what I read in most reviews, the tone will become very very serious. It's not bad, thus far. But here's my take on it after about what? A few episodes...

1. The cinematography is unique and beautiful. I can see the effort in this area and I appreciate that, especially from a TVB series.

2. The costumes and make up reminds me of Storm Rider-neither the past nor the future but a fantasy wuxia flick and again it's unique

3. The kung fu is really something. How many years have I not seen those scenes where one kung fu fighter heals another with "hei kung"? This series is like the olden days of kung fu fighting scenes although I still feel most scenes are rather rushed.

4. Whilst I disagree with some casting decision and most performance right now are uninspired, I kinda appreciate the uniqueness of the chaarcters and the world they're in. It's not the usual stuff.

5. I like the fact that the 2 leads bared their buttocks for this series, unfortunately that scene was censored so well..useless sacrifice, at least in Malaysia that is.

I think I have repeated the same word many times already. I think at the end of the day this series give me an impression that it is unique. Unique in every sense that many may not be able to stomach it. I haven't read the book, will never read it so I wouldn't know which is better and what is missing and what is extra. I may not like many aspects of it but my eyes are glued on the TV just for a few minutes when there was this one scene; I think the villain meeting the 2 leads in a bamboo forest or something. That scene was beautiful, atmospheric and really, if more consideration has been given to actually set the right course for this series from episode 1, we may have a winner here. I don't like the comedy elements in the face of so many serious stuff. That is what I do not like.

I am still watching this series, every other day. Not much comment thus far.

Monday Split Second will debut. Saw the trailer, looks mighty confusing but should be gritty and I hope for once a drama should be a drama. No extra stuff, just give me what it is and not make it into another stuff.

Funn, I actually has the same feeling as u when I first saw the series. I love the cinematography and see it as a well-made fantasy series. I even defended the series when people critisized the CGI laden fight scenes.

But the more I watch it the more the series go downhill. Inconsistancy of characters's personality, split direction (it's like 2 series join into 1. u can seperate the Ron's an Raymond's part, and they can make 2 complete series) and inane thoughts/reaction by characters. I also dislike the love stories. I just lost interest in the series half-way and quit when the only character who keep me watching died. There are a few characters other I also like in the series, but not enough to make me continue the series.

A part I thought really is inane is this:

There's this 1 woman, who is leader of a clan. Her clan got decimated and only a few left and they all became slaves to their conqueror. She's a caring leader in that she endured great suffering to keep her remainintg clan member safe. She deviced a plan to free all her clan members but the result is that all her clan members die except her and her assistant. Now do u think she is a capable leader and a good strategist? No, right? But everyone still praise her as a great strategist despite her pathetic track record and some guy actual hire her as his clan's strategist. And what is her strategy during battle? Not go out and fight the enemy but send for help from outside and just wait for said help to come. Well, said help come at the nick of time, and everyone praise the woman for her great strategy. I was like 'What strategy?' If Sau Ling (Tavia) didn't care for, the outside help would never arrive. Sau Ling has to defy her brother to get the troop there to safe them. Wihout Sau Ling, ther will be no outside help. This is what call a great strategy. Please....

Stephy, most TVB series are ripped from movie concept. JTTW was made after Stephen Chow made it. Burning Flame after the fireman movie. So on and so forth. But it is a question on quality. Rip all they want but I want to see good acting, good story, right actor for the right role...I hope Split Second does it. The trailer looks interesting.

By the way that computer graphic of Twins of Brothers, that dragon when the title was shown is I must say very cool.

Split Second started off very boring and confusing. However the ending was excellent. Just watch it for the peformances by Marco Ngai, and Chatchai (Thai actor).

Generally speaking, with the exception of Yoyo Mung, the acting in Split Second is good and is something to look forward to. However, as serenity said, it can be confusing at times, and definitely boring as they try tad too hard to mimick the 'cool' feel of movies like Infernal Affairs and others, with some inane dialogue and too quick editing. I particularly disliked the story about Alex Fung and Yoyo. That being said, I do recommend watching it for the performances and the interesting storyline. And yes, Chatchai is definitely one actor to look out for. The character Panda, played by the actor who played Dog Dog in NJAPF, is also one of the best characters to come out of TVB in recent years, IMO.

FUNN , Split Second for some people coud me boring but I totally love this series ! Alex Fong and Yoyo character is boring but stay tume for Kevin Cheng !!

After this series I love Kevin Cheng in here . He's so ultra cool . If you love him in Hard Fate you just gotta catch Kevin here .

Like Pearl said I found Johnson Lee the actor who played the Dog "angel" ? in not just a pretty face series absolutely good here . his expression and actions and even his scripts [To be a " Tai Lo " is not like this ] those who saw this should know what I mean !

Partick Tam - another awatd winning performance ( forget about seed of hope , angels of mission etc ) just watch him here ok !

marco Ngai - very good from marco you actually felt sorry for him even though he's the baddie

and of course the thai stars Chatchai and Rita Jensen something refreshing . I especially love Chatchai like toward the end so touching scene

Funn, not so sure if you like this kind of series , but if u see this without comparing this to PTU , Infernal affairs then should be quite refreshing and yes apart from Alex Fong , Mandy Cho , Yoyo Mung the rest of the acting even those ( ke-le-fes ) are excellent !

Even the soundtrack is cool , they took the Rick Price [ Heaven Knows ] and oldies Moon River - a haunting song that fits this series .

I guess there's no episodic thoughts eh ?

Overall, I didn't like the series. What motivated me to continue were curiosity and the performances. The performances by Johnson Le, Marco Ngai, Chatchai, Patrick and Claire. Patrick done a surprisingly a pretty good job, compared by his previous work. I'm sure everyone loves Panda (Johnson) in here. His loyalty would definitely touch you. Kevin was a bit wooden, not his best. Marco Ngai and Chatchai stole the show.

Twin of Brothers on the other hand concentrated on the love part too much. And the good vs. evil was boring to watch.

Hmm, is The Conqueror’s Story going to air anytime soon?

Funn ,

It's ok you don't have to worry , apart from the first few episodes mandy will not be appearing a lot .

As for the Astro Wah lai toi awards I am quite mad with them , why on earth did they nominate Alex Fong !!?? They should have put any of the male casts ( even Johnson Lee ) . All of them deserves it than Alex Fong !

yeah, Mandy was like totally robotic, truly the epitome of BAD acting. Fortunately she doesn't appear that much. However, I do have to say that she handled that scene where she was crying for Kevin's Wong Kar Fai very well. In fact, it was so good I felt like crying too... That was the only time she shone.
