SERIES' SUMMARIES
Sometime in 2004 I began
reviewing selected
series in an episode by
episode way, where I
called these reviews
EPISODIC THOUGHTS.
These thoughts are
mostly summaries of each
and every episode with
my opinion of that
episode included in it
as well. I may not
provide the most in
depth summaries but I am
very proud of the fact
that I could keep the
writing on such a long
winded basis each and
every night for the
entirety of the series.
I don't do this for each
and every series though
because it kills a lot
of brain cells, mine as
well as fellow netizens
who often joined in the
discussion by posting
informative stuff. These
thoughts are still open
for feedback and
discussion. Do check
them all out in

ASTRO TV Drama Awards 2005 Permanent link ▫ ▫
Shocking results and hilarious show, to sum up the ASTRO Drama Awards 2005 shown tonight over at Channel 30.
For one, as predicted these past 2 days by myself, Charmaine Sheh won Most Favourite Actress. But shocking shocking! Raymond Lam got Most Favourite Actor!! Another shocker was Most Favourite Mom was Christine Ng and dad was as expected, Damien Lau. Most Favourite Song was shocking, Point of No Return themesong whilst Most Favourite Moment was ... War And Beauty's death of little princess scene! Well that was expected. And Most favourite Series was as predicted, War And Beauty. Interesting win was Most Stylish Gun Holding Character was Wong Hei. Gigi Lai won Most Favourite Villain. The rest are as expected although the shocker was in Most Favourite Characters, Bowie Lam, Gigi Lai, Moses Chan and many many expected ones never made it into top 12! Damien Lau never made it, already guessed so. And guess what? Maggie Cheung did! I didn't hear Sheren Teng winning but the list I found said she did.
I was so happy to see Maggie Cheung there. She looked tired, put on a bit of weight, looked like she was or still is sick BUT still very pretty and yes, said the wrong thing again BUT was honest enough that I applauded her honesty. She said ...
"Thank you for this award, which is very special to me. For the past 2 years I have had very little luck at the awards ceremony since I was in Mainland acting and as some of you know, I was sick. Thank you for giving my character in War & Beauty its due recognition. Thank you for your support...""
Ahh such honesty. Loved her speech!
Another one that left a deep impression on me was Myolie Wu. Not only was she dressed so pretty, she looked even more pretty now! Best of all, she is so likeable and said such funny stuff and her impromptu impersonation of a dead but very famous actress, I think called Tam Pik Wan or something. It was very hilarious. And when she got her Most favourite Character award, she even hugged the girl who presented her the award (12 contestants from the I Am A TV Addict Game Show got to do the honours you see)!
One hilarious segment was when Raymond Lam and Ron Ng were looking for their mother in the sketch, Modern Twins of Brothers. 5 lucky girls got to hug these 2 guys!! So funny!
Hey, the winner from that TV Addict Game show got a kiss from Roger Kwok!! And Roger Kwok was handsome as well as charming. Raymond Lam was shockingly pale and thin but he was a gentleman. Ron Ng was cute, handsome but under dressed. And his singing routine was like a cheap karaoke session. Sorry Ron, please stick to acting unless you could dance better than you sing!
The show was hosted by Onn Tak Jun (excellent host, really can connect with the audience and he was so funny) and Chui Ling, who wasn't very good with timing.
The ones who really left a very bad impression on me were Chilam Cheung and Charmaine Sheh. They weren't rude, but they looked like they rather be somewhere else. Chilam Cheung looked stuck up, but handsome and sang very very well. But something seems to bother him and he didn't look like he enjoyed himself. Charmaine wasn't rude, but she looked like she wasn't enjoying herself and in a very lousy mood. Usually she may seem aloof but still smile a lot. But in this ceremony, even when interviewed, her answers were short and curt, she looked like she didn't like to be there, she was more than aloof, she was cold as well. Even winning the award didn't bring a big smile on her face. She wasn't rude I must repeat, not even arrogant, just like something was bothering her. Very bad impression. And her fashion sense is totally out of the window, first pink dress made her look fat and then the brownish one made her look like so not there at all.
I would think Myolie dressed the prettiest whilst Chilam and Roger both dressed very nice for this occassion. Maggie was more underdressed but still looking as glamarous as ever.
After tonight's show, I liked Myolie even more. She really has the charisma and the likeability to be TVB's No. 1 Sister. Maggie also left a deep impression on me. For one, the camera zoomed passed her and she was busy looking I suspect at the event's pamphlet, probably one of the few who even bothered to look at it. Or maybe she was looking at something else, I may be mistaken. And she happily smiled when fans were screaming the names of the would be winner of Most Favourite Actor. She was gracious enough to hold on to Charmaine's arm when both going up to receive the award for Most Favourite Drama, they didn't look like they hated each other.
Charmaine and Chilam however looked like they were miles apart when standing next to one another.
Anyway many thanked their fans but did Charmaine forgot to thank her fans? After all tonight's results is the perfect example of the power of fans' voting. Who would have thought Twins Of Brothers could be such big winner, that Charmaine Sheh was so very popular, that fans remembered Maggie Cheung and that Raymond Lam and Ron Ng are so famous here? And that Bowie Lam is really not that famous here?
My most disappointed moment was when I heard War & Beauty announced for Most Favourite Scene and I thought it was the Winter Sonata scene and then.. well can't win them all!
Shocking results. Poor Bowie Lam, not even on the list and poor Gigi Lai..we Malaysians may have voted the right actors for the wrong dramas but well, at least the choices were right. I like Raymond Lam and like I said, Charmaine Sheh should win something already. Next year perhaps Most Sulky Face Award? I think Charmaine and Chilam could get a tie for this new award!!

Before the show, I wouldn't have guess he would win. I thought one of the WAB guys or Roger would win. But during the show itself, I changed my mind and thought he has a big chance to win because the very a loud applause he got everytime his character was mentioned. I even told my mom he would win.
Another shocker was Most Favourite Mom was Christine Ng
This is not a shocker to me at all. I predicted her win even from the very beginning, because I remember how popular Fu Kuan Cheuk was when TOB was first aired in HK last year and she was also very popular with the oversea viewers.
I was actually more surprised that Jessica was leading in the preliminary round.
Most Favourite Song was shocking, Perish In The Name of Love
Is this really the name the song? It's the same as the Charm/Steven ancient romance series's title. Anyway, I'm glad this song won since it's a very beautiful song.
whilst Most Favourite Moment was ... War And Beauty's death of little princess scene! Well that was expected.
I was actually hoping the Ada/Dayo scene will win. That scene is funny.
Interesting win was Most Stylish Gun Holding Character was Wong Hei.
I like the Kwong Wa scene more. So effortless the way he bring out the gun. I like his 'tidak apa' look, like he didn't put those tugs in his eyes at all.
Gigi Lai won Most Favourite Villain.
This award should belong to Sima Ping Ting. The damage she's done is more than those 4 women in WAB combined. She is also the most heartless.
The rest are as expected although the shocker was in Most Favourite Characters, Bowie Lam, Gigi Lai, Moses Chan and many many expected ones never made it into top 12!
Yes, it's pretty shocking that Gigi and the 2 WAB guys didn't get it. I thought they are the shoo in one.
I didn't hear Sheren Teng winning but the list I found said she did.
She won the last fave character award.
Thank you for recognising my character in War & Beauty. Thank you for your support...""
Ahh such honesty. Loved her speech!
I already admired her honesty from the time she commented on Kenix not having a representative work. Everyone said she's stuck up and rude when she commented about that but I admired her for daring to be honest and not giving cliche reply.
My most favourite impromptu action of hers is actually during the red-carpet entry. Her escort was leading her in (they weren't holding hands, just walking in together). Many fans called out to her and she suddenly ran to her fans and shook their hands, while her escort walk straight on. It's very unexpected. I think her escort was caught by surprise and don't know what do u. So, just walked straight like the initial plan.
Ron Ng was cute, handsome but under dressed. And his singing routine was like a cheap karaoke session. Sorry Ron, please stick to acting unless you could dance better than you sing!
Looking at the way he dances, can u believe that he used to be a TVB dancer before he went to acting?
The ones who really left a very bad impression on me were Chilam Cheung and Charmaine Sheh. They weren't rude, but they looked like they rather be somewhere else. Chilam Cheung looked stuck up, but handsome and sang very very well. But something seems to bother him and he didn't look like he enjoyed himself. Charmaine wasn't rude, but she looked like she wasn't enjoying herself and in a very lousy mood. Usually she may seem aloof but still smile a lot. And her fashion sense is totally out of the window, first pink dress made her look fat and then the brownish one made her look like so not there at all.
I don't know about Charmaine, but Chilam was sick during the ceremory. He mentioned this before he sang his themesong. He apologised to the audience beforehand and said that his singing won't be that good because he's not well. My mom said maybe he has just taken his antibiotics, and that's why he looks drowsy. :)
Btw, I think Charm's pink dress is way too short.
Anyway was Chilam really sick? He didn't look drowsy but like so not there. No wonder. I wrongly blamed him. But Charmaine was...so not there. You're right, pink dress too short. Her best asset is not her legs, but her tiny waist but she never flaunt those. I didn't see the earlier red carpet scenes so I am glad that Myolie is so appreciative of her fans and excited as well.
I would never have thought Raymond would win. For a moment i thought OH MY GOD, RON NG? Anyway at least it's Raymond.
I never knew Ron was a dancer and looking at his dance routine I now know why he is an actor.
That China girl can't win because no one knows her! It's popularity contest!
But never thought a junk like Twins of Brothers can win so many.
i didnt get to watch this award ceremony yet but according to Cinple's forum (rachel) Charmaine DID thanks her fans for the support!!
1. VIP entrace - he was holdings hands, chatting with Charmaine but he looked tired.
2. He left immediately after the award and he looked in foul mood but understandbly, he was sick.
3. Met him outside the celebration party but he didn't go in but instead went back to hotel to rest.
As for Charmaine, I don't know. She was stiff on stage but at her seat, she was congenial with ppl seating next to her (saw her joking with Christine).
Yes, I was really x10 afraid that Ron will win fav actor. Thank God he did not. I ran into him but I was busy waving hi at Charmaine to notice he was standing face to face with me. How rude of me (embarrased). Anyway, Charmaine's mood was better in the celebration party. AND SHE DID THANK HER FANS :)
So how Ron looked like in real life? I told my family he should be more handsome in person than he was on TV.
Poor Chilam though. Was he that sick? So I wasn't the only one who noticed how sulky Charm looked? Even those photos I see her smiling with the award was like forced smile. She must be having a lousy mood. I mean at least act surprised when won the award like Flora did. Very curious, like I assumed in my post earlier in here, perhaps she had a fight with Benny Chan?!
I know she did thank her fans but rather well don't kill me for this, insincere. She doesn't seem happy at all. Even my sister, big fan of Charmaine noticed how sulky she looked. I know stars are human too but like my sis said, this is the event where you're seen and even if you're sick or sad, pretend to be healthy and happy. After all they're actors.
Yes, Ron is very good looking in person.
Poor Ron.
I dunno. I watch the whole show but never felt that Charm and Chilam were being sulky or cold or rude. They were not Myolie type happy, but they were ok to me.
Kidd, they're in the entertainment business. Even for ordinary folks like us in a 9 to 5 job, even if we have divorce looming, fought with husbands, got bitten by a dog and car just crashed, we don't show our sulky face to our boss. Fans are their boss. Fans may be understanding bunch but there are some, like I who doesn't want to switch on a TV and look at an unhappy or unsatisfied face during an award show. The only time they can sulk all they want is when they lose an award, and that they can be accused of poor sportsmanship. But to be sick or unhappy and to be sarcastic and somewhat more than aloof but cold and on top of that sulky isn't the traits of a good entertainer or someone in the entertainment industry. They may be human but I repeat acting is their job and if they're good at what they do, please by all means pretend to be happy. But eyes can never deceive one's true mood and that night was obvious. Something was wrong, not just with the sick but also the unsick. I don't expect them to be friendly and go hugging everyone. They must know how to market themselves and after seeing how the Korean stars did it, I am convinced it is not impossible to act like you like and want to be there even when you're sick or sad. If you don't feel like going, by all means don't go. No one is forcing them, but if go go as if you want to go and not forced to go.
Try showing that face to your clients and colleagues and see what they think about it. Lucky for them they're stars and therefore all is forgiven and people tend to be more understanding.
