SERIES' SUMMARIES
Sometime in 2004 I began
reviewing selected
series in an episode by
episode way, where I
called these reviews
EPISODIC THOUGHTS.
These thoughts are
mostly summaries of each
and every episode with
my opinion of that
episode included in it
as well. I may not
provide the most in
depth summaries but I am
very proud of the fact
that I could keep the
writing on such a long
winded basis each and
every night for the
entirety of the series.
I don't do this for each
and every series though
because it kills a lot
of brain cells, mine as
well as fellow netizens
who often joined in the
discussion by posting
informative stuff. These
thoughts are still open
for feedback and
discussion. Do check
them all out in

Fan made tributes - Christian Bale Permanent link ▫ ▫
I have downloaded tons of Jang Dong Gun MV made by fans as a tribute and I was amazed by it all. But only today did I realise how much slicing and piecing together irrelevant scenes accompanied by a really good song can really make a fan made MV work. You must drop by Avenuepotter.com and download any of the MV made by this dedicated and very talented fan of Christian Bale. She pieced together many of his movies, some were manic types of characters and transform it all into one piece of coherent story. My personal favourite is the Bond MV, where amazingly the maker successfully convinced me that Christian Bale should be James Bond. Amazing artwork, music and selected scenes all in crystal clear quality that I wish I could burn it and watch it with my big screen TV. Even non fans will appreciate the artwork involved. As for fans of Christian Bale, you might like to consider the MV entitled I'm Too Sexy. And indeed, she pieced together various unconnected scenes and clearly convinced me HE IS SEXY. Ermmm..make sure you don't let your parents catch you watching it!
Just finished downloading most of the MVs. Another highly recommended one is Closer, and I kinda feel like buying Equilibrium now! Very nicely edited. But Closer was quite shocking to me. That movie American Psycho really has excessive amount of nudity, sex and violence and yet I was laughing at some scenes. Maybe the main character is such a vain serial killer? I don't recommend Closer. And I am not surprise why the other movie, The Machinist was left out. Saw the trailer and I was like beyond shocked. He looked like back in those Nazi torture camps.
By the way you need the DIVx codec, and with it you can play the avi files using your Windows Media Player. She has placed a link in that very page where you can download this codec for free. A question to ponder. In American Psycho I saw so much of nudity. And I haven't even seen the movie proper. I wonder, is it that easy to strip off in front of the camera? Are the westerners more comfortable with their own body that they can flaunt it (admittedly, he does have a very beautiful body in that movie) and so running around totally naked and be seen by millions is nothing but to us Asians, kissing also shy shy? Can you do what he did on the camera?

U are right, CB plays Patrick Bateman here, an extremely vain, materialistic, empty, high-income yuppy. There's lots of sex, nudity and violence, but I can say that it all serves the story very well.
American Psycho was made as a satire of American society of the 80s, where the author thought was characterized by materialism and filled with people without no purpose in life except surface vainty. In the beginning of the movie Bateman is introduced as mingling with his friends at the most expensive restarunts, paying exhorbidant bills using cashcards, and indulging in facials and tanning sessions.
Therefore, Bateman is the epitome of the materialistic society - handsome, rich, enjoying the high life. But because of that, he is empty inside. And the only thing that he believes makes him able to feel is by shedding blood.
You talked about the scene that made you laugh. I haven't watched it but I think I know which sex scene you mean. Yes, that was one scene that really told you how vain, how empty, and how void of feelings this man is. He has taken this obssession to the highest level, and nothing can surpass that to make him feel other than torturing and killing.
The movie towards the end is actually both intriguing and quite sad also, cos he becomes a total wreck and u actually start to wonder, did he actually do all the killings or were these just his desperate fantasies? Throughout the movie he takes on different identities in his interactions with people, yet by the end he realizes that he cannot find his real self.
So beyond the gore and the nudity of the movie, American Psycho is really a movie that provokes thinking, albeit in a shocking manner. It's a movie worthy of its praises and all the controversies.
If u're intending to watch this movie thou, do be prepared for some very scary scenes. Apparently the director has made it less gory tha it was in the book, but it still freaks me out. And oh yes, my my what a hot bod!
Curious though. So in the end all those killings were a figment of his imagination or real? The maker of the VODs seems fascinated with one particular scene in this movie; where he was applying facial mask, excercising and yes, that looking into the mirror whilst doing the deed with 2 women. I am just shocked he took on such a role. This was the one Leonardo Dicaprio missed out right? Could it be because he was advised not to do this movie since it entails running around fully naked? Pearl where on earth you bought the DVDs of this movie, The Machinist and Newsies? I can't find it except online and it costs a bomb! Singapore has it? Because if yes I may need your help in buying them! Malaysia, not even the pirated types have it!
Oh yeah, do a short review on The Machinist pls!
So were the killings real or imagined? Frankly I dunno, and in fact this is a question that has been debated among fans of the movie. Director Mary Harron does admit that the screenplay really is based on her interpretation of the book, so it's up to audiences to decide.
Personally I think it may be imagined, thou there's always this possibility that I may be thinking too much into it.
Anyway, my brother bought this DVD when he was still studying in Australia a few years ago, and it seems that he found that in the discount bin. It is not available in Singapore, as far as I know (I'm so not surprised). As for the Newsies DVD, I got it from Amazon.com, and it's also not avilable over here too. Maybe cos the exchange rate was quite favourable at that time, it cost around S$20 including shipping cost. I didn't buy The Machinist, however. I rented that one, though this movie is available in stores in Singapore. Not quite sure of the price, though I think last I saw it was around S$40.
I liked the way the scriptwriters and director set the stage for the revelation which is sure to evoke some emotion for the main character and his wrteched life. In fact, it's the kind of movie which u'd probably be tempted to watch again just to pick out the hints and clues which the film-makers had dropped along the way. It was all so intriguing to see how his mind had intermingled with reality to create an alternate reality.
CB is painfully skinny here, and it's especially freaky when he bears his upper body. It's hard to imagine how he went from that to the huge body mass in Batman. But he is very believable as the tormented soul, which is uncomfortable to watch at times. So much so that when I saw the handsome, healthy-looking Bale appearing towards the end, I was actually stunned.
One major complaint is the slow-pace in the first half of the movie, which almost failed to keep my attention to the story. As a flashback-type movie, it was very hard to make sense of the story. But as things started to fall into place, it started to grab my attention and keep it there til the end.
Not very high on violence, except for one particular scene which involved an accident that was quite gory. High on suspense and mystery thou, especially in the 2nd half.
All in all, a very interesting movie which is low on entertainment value but I would say it's also a pretty intelligent movie for the way it's presented.
