SELECTED POSTS

This page, NEWS & UPDATES which is actually the index page of this website has grown into a huge database of my almost daily ramblings of all stuff I hold dear to my heart, including gossips of the most sordid kind. For your convenience, I have posted a list of posts which I thought is pretty informative in my own way that you might find interesting. The list itself may be long but those selected few are the ones I thought drives home the point I wanted to make. Do check them out in MY POINT IS [Comments & Opinions].

SERIES' SUMMARIES

Sometime in 2004 I began reviewing selected series in an episode by episode way, where I called these reviews EPISODIC THOUGHTS. These thoughts are mostly summaries of each and every episode with my opinion of that episode included in it as well. I may not provide the most in depth summaries but I am very proud of the fact that I could keep the writing on such a long winded basis each and every night for the entirety of the series. I don't do this for each and every series though because it kills a lot of brain cells, mine as well as fellow netizens who often joined in the discussion by posting informative stuff. These thoughts are still open for feedback and discussion. Do check them all out in REVIEWS where it is indicated with an  [E] next to my name.

OFFBEAT STUFF

There is this one section in here that features offbeat stuff that are not entertainment based. The section is known as FUNN STUFF [COMMENTS & OPINIONS].

PERSONAL FAVOURITES

There are 3 sections in here that contain my personal favourites of all kinds. THE DDGs [COMMENTS & OPINIONS] which features specially made websites by myself with info & all related stuff of my favourite stars or stars I like to talk about, MEDIA & MUSIC FILES [DOWNLOADS] which has my favourite VODs and music files, most of them are taken from Chinese & Korean dramas & movies and some of which I am hosting for my net friends and THE STORYTELLERS [WEBSITES], where you'll find stories written by amateur writers like you and I.

Do check them all out!

Roundup of stuff
Permanent link Post a Comment

I can't believe it! I have watched Batman Begins like 3 times in 3 days averaging 1 time 1 day! THREE TIMES in THREE STRAIGHT DAYS! I admit, the beginning was slow, the almost ending long, the women not important, disliked this Gotham City and Christian Bale is THE MAN, BUT DAMN! I watched ut 3 times in 3 days! Wow!

And then I watched Spiderman II on TV and wow! Long but enjoyable.

Watched All About Eve (selected episodes), vomitted blood a few times because of the you know what but you know who just really made my day, making me itch to buy that DVD from PMP Entertainment.

By the way saw Speedy Video selling DVDs of Korean dramas now. Saw Winter Sonata and some new ones BUT expensive. Why not go to Coolwin-Video.com? Got some discounts there, at least save RM30-00 or so. I wanted to buyt My Name Is Kim Sam Soon, BUT out of stock. And itching itching, saw that All About Eve DVD!

I am also watching Rome, since House MD's season 1 is over. Rome is good, except about Cleopetra "Look at me wriggle myself on the bed looking oh so sexy" scenes. Shocking series. Incest (oh yes, showed it too!), murder, paedophiles, rape, everything. A must see. And anyone knows Ciaran Hinds? Anyone? I was so happy to see "Captain Wenworth". Anyone seen Persuasion with Ciaran Hinds in it? So romantic. A must watch.

Watched Pride & Prejudice again. No no not that movie version by Keira Knightly. My definition of Mr Darcy (notwithstanding Laurence Olivier's version which I did not watch) has to be Colin Firth and no other. Sorry to say, Keira Knightly is not my idea of Elizabeth Bennet. Neither is Jennifer Ehle but well, I don't really like Elizabeth "The Rules Girl" Bennet. But you must watch BBC's Pride & Prejudice. It is truly addictive once you start watching. Got it in DVD you know. By the way it is a mini series.

Now I am hoping to catch Hostel (heard that it is super violent-great!), Brokeback Mountain (banned by Malaysian government, which makes it all the more interesting) and Wallace & Gromit feature film. Meaning where else to buy? Yes, more business to the ehhem..you know who.

So what are you watching and what do you wish to watch? Tell! Tell!

By the way, anyone here knows the link to my HBO Band Of Brothers review which I wrote a long long time ago? Anyone?

Pearl posted some clips of Christian Bale dancing and singing. Links expiring in 7 days. SEVEN DAYS! Go now! Hurry!

My domain transfer to PublicDomainRegistry.com is going on. Will know if all goes well in a few days. I am sure it will. But still get ready, if this page does not exist, try point2entertainment.com because that's the name I'll register if all else fail. I hope not. Slap my mouth.

Chinese New Year is coming soon. So fast. No preparation, no nothing. Not hoping for Ang Pows also. Yes, my life is miserable. Exactly a 4.7 if you know what I mean. If I had been even more honest, I doubt it could reach a 2.5.

ASTRO is showing not sure what's the name, but Kenix-Bobby-Michael Tao teacher story? Looks interesting, upbeat, funny. I hope NOT preachy.

Ok, that's it. Nothing mich of everything else. Please, any submision, do send them in. I have my Batman Begins review but because of the domain transfer, I am going to post it later.

Funn, have you seen the recent movie version of Pride and Prejudice (2005)? I actually recommend that you do! It was quite a good movie: funny yet moving. Kiera Knightly was excellent, suprisingly, but I didn't like Mr. Darcy much.

The banning of Brokeback Mountain is unsurprising given it's subject matter. Our governnment is not very progressive in this matter. They still have trouble showing a simple kiss onscreen, let alone a gay movie.

Is the movie banned from cinema only or we won't even be able to get the DVD?

The subject matter is not really that groundbreaking or unusual. But since it won the Golden Globe, I want to see how good the movie is.

Btw, did Happy Together ever made it to the cinema here? I don't quite remember.

I've seen that version of Persuasion ages ago. I have to say, Hinds is not the Captain Wentworth I imagine. But that movie has a lot of miscast. Anne Elliot's father and elder sister is certainly miscast. The Baron is pompous but he is also handsome. I can't use handsome to describe that clown in the movie. The elder sister is also a good-looking woman. She is the most beautiful among the 3 sisters, but the actress that played Anne is better looking than the one who played her sister. Also, I expect the elder sister to be elegant. But elegant is the last work I will use to describe that woman.

As for Pride and Prejudice, this miniseries was shown on local free TV some years ago, but it clash with my class timetable, so can't watch. :(

Haha, I don't like Lizzy Bennet too. We are in a very minority group. She's the most popular Jane Austen female character. But why did u call her Elizabeth "The Rules Girl" Bennet? She doesn't seem like a rule girl to me. She is quite feisty (of course she is not as uninhibited as Lydia Bennet). I just don't like her prejudice and her tendency to focus on the bad side of people. But what really make me dislike her is her feeling ashame of her own family members and her unforgiving attitude toward her best friend. She fault her best friend for settling down with a person she doesn't love for security but it's ok for Mr.Wickham to marry for money.
Fanny Price is the ultimate 'Rules Girl'.

I have not watch the BBC version, but my ideal Mr.Darcy would be Hugh Jackman.

Btw, NTV7 has a very one-of-a-kind miniseries. There's on other series like it. It's called 'HOMO SAPIENS', aired on 11.15pm Friday. It's a fictional story about the development of homo sapiens. The series is based on many archeology research theories, but they give names to the prehistoric characters and focus on a few induviduals advanture to represent what happen in the past. The series is amazing. Very realistic. Too bad I miss the 1st (dunno NTV 7 is airing it) and 3rd episode (forgot all about it after watching AI5).

"Is the movie banned from cinema only or we won't even be able to get the DVD?"
Maybe on DVD yes but official DVD will cut out the rather interesting scenes. There's always pirated DVDs. Thank God for them!

"The subject matter is not really that groundbreaking or unusual."
Homosexuality in the movies is not groundbreaking. But how many times have you heard of a movie about gay COWBOYS? THe ultimate symbol of rugged MAN OF DA MAN MAN you know. This in itself is not really unusual but is groundbreaking. I believe Ang Lee will make a very moving love story. Wedding Banquet is a fine example.

"Btw, did Happy Together ever made it to the cinema here? I don't quite remember."
I don't think so.

"I've seen that version of Persuasion ages ago. I have to say, Hinds is not the Captain Wentworth I imagine. But that movie has a lot of miscast. Anne Elliot's father and elder sister is certainly miscast. The Baron is pompous but he is also handsome. I can't use handsome to describe that clown in the movie. Also, I expect the elder sister to be elegant. But elegant is the last work I will use to describe that woman."

The casting is purposely done so I think. Anne's father is arrogant to think he is so handsome and of such noble breeding that he looks down on people and those like Captain Wentworth. I thought the casting was impeccable. I have never finished the book but Ciaran Hinds gave a very excellent performance as the captain who came back to seek his lady love once more. The way he stared at her, the way he talked and looked at her and quickly shifted his eyes elsewhere. In fact Colin Firth did exactly just that but Colin's Mr Darcy just stared at Lizzie non stop.

"But why did u call her Elizabeth "The Rules Girl" Bennet? She doesn't seem like a rule girl to me. She is quite feisty (of course she is not as uninhibited as Lydia Bennet). "

Lydia is not uninhibited. She is simply stupid. She ruined her reputation, ruined her family's reputation and even in the end proudly and arrogantly flaunted her husband who was basically useless. You can't blame Lizzie for being prejudiced since Mr Darcy is such a bastard. You have to watch the mini series to know why. You will feel like slapping that man. I call her the rules girl because I saw a documentary once where the book was discussed and the fans commented how Lizzie accepted Darcy after seeing Pemberley. I though what a greedy materialistic woman. I kinda thought she did everything deliberately to get his heart. Act mysterious, let him run to her, cut short the conversation, etc etc etc, marks of the ultimate rules girl. Even the writers of the rules book said she was the ultimate rules girl. i can't help but agree. If you see it that way. I like Anne of Persuasion though. Maybe because I love the movie.

"I have not watch the BBC version, but my ideal Mr.Darcy would be Hugh Jackman."
Even Colin Firth never imagined himself as Darcy. He once said he is not handsome enough but he accepted the role and his friend did say Darcy may not need to be handsome but he has to be such a bastard that he is sexy. Colin Firth nailed that one. Hugh Jackman may be a great Darcy. I can name a few others but for those who had been Darcy, I feel Colin Firth is the one. After all helen fielding dedicated 2 books to this character!

"Btw, NTV7 has a very one-of-a-kind miniseries. There's on other series like it. It's called 'HOMO SAPIENS', aired on 11.15pm Friday. It's a fictional story about the development of homo sapiens. Sounds boring. What do cavemen do? Hunt, kill, sleep, hunt, kill, sleep...not very interested. I like watching civilisations. I am eager to watch season 2 of Rome because then the story would focus on Octavian and he is so interesting in Season 1.

For 'Homo Sapiens'. It's not only hunt, kill, hunt, kill. It depicts how the early human traveled from their place of origin to spread out to other places and met other species of human (i.e. neathertal and homo erectus). It also shows how music, writing/drawings, work organisation most probably started, theorised why neathertal become extinct and how come some homo erectus evolved into homo sapien while some remained the same. Do u know that neathertal already has a rituals of burying their dead love ones?

I don't fault Lizzy for thinking bad of Darcy. He is very unfriendly when he first appeared. What I don't like is Lizzy's tendency to immediately look at the bad side of people (i.e. her prejudice against certain people) unlike Jane who tend to see people's good side. But however much I dislike Lizzy, I don't think she play games with Darcy. (Btw, just curious, have u read the book?) She really dislike Darcy, not only because he's arrogant and said she's not good enough to dance with him, but also because he broke up Jane and Mr.Bingley and caused Jane so much pain. She thought he did it because he look down on her family. She did not act mysterious, let him run to her, cut short the conversation, etc etc etc to lead him on. She really disliked him and I can understand her action when she spurn him. I mean, who doesn't want the satisfaction taking down a peg or 2 from the man who think u are not good enough to even dance with him? I totally rejoice when Lizzy turn down Darcy's request for a dance after he said those things the first time. Yes, Lizzy is impressed with Pemberly and would like to be a mistress of the house. But if Darcy has kept his arrogant way, Lizzy would still not accept his marriage proposal. Lizzy rejected his first proposal because she really think badly of him. While in Pemberly, she got to witness his true (or changed for the better) personality and her perception of him slowly changed. After reading his letter explaining his reasons for certain actions and knowing how much he did for her family, Lizzy finally fall in love with him. From her attitude toward Charlotte's marriage to Mr. Collins, u can see that she is a person who is against marrying just for money. Love is important too. Also, it is dangerous to reject a man's proposal just to entice him. He might not come back with a second one. Lizzy never thought Darcy would ask for her hand again. She thought all is lost already.

My perceptions all come solely from reading the book. No chance of seeing the series and not interest in the movie. I hope they have mad Northanger Abbey instead since this novel one of the least well-known. Everyone just know Emma, S&S and P&P because of the Hollywood movies. :(

Those fans say Lizzy accepted Darcy after seeing Pemberly. But have they mentioned that between Pemberly and the proposal, there are also Lydia elopement and much effort Darcy made to settle the matter nad make a respectable woman out of Lydia? Did they also mentioned the letter Darcy wrote to explain himself?

I found Persuasion to be a boring book, but I still manage to finish it, but not taken in with any character in there. :)

May favourite Jane Austen female characters are actually Emma and Jane Bennet.

As for Brokeback Mountain. I've seen movies of manly men loving each other before. So, seeing manly gay man is not ground breaking. I have actually seen an enovel that is about love between 2 cowboys (I've only read a few pages but found it boring, so, didn't continue). So, when I first heard about this movie, I thought "what a coincidence". I agree that Ang Lee is a capable director. I enjoy his 'Sense and Sensibility' a lot so.

Amir, my sister bought the DVD from Singapore as she could not find it in Malaysia. As far as I know it is not sold in Malaysia. If you really want to buy it, you can try amazon.com and this is the direct link :-

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005MP58/qid=1141907351/sr=8-2/ref=pd_bbs_2/104-2856960-1507946?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=130

Be careful about the region code though. The ver my sister bought was for all region and strangely same box and look.

Or the VCD version
