SELECTED POSTS

This page, NEWS & UPDATES which is actually the index page of this website has grown into a huge database of my almost daily ramblings of all stuff I hold dear to my heart, including gossips of the most sordid kind. For your convenience, I have posted a list of posts which I thought is pretty informative in my own way that you might find interesting. The list itself may be long but those selected few are the ones I thought drives home the point I wanted to make. Do check them out in MY POINT IS [Comments & Opinions].

SERIES' SUMMARIES

Sometime in 2004 I began reviewing selected series in an episode by episode way, where I called these reviews EPISODIC THOUGHTS. These thoughts are mostly summaries of each and every episode with my opinion of that episode included in it as well. I may not provide the most in depth summaries but I am very proud of the fact that I could keep the writing on such a long winded basis each and every night for the entirety of the series. I don't do this for each and every series though because it kills a lot of brain cells, mine as well as fellow netizens who often joined in the discussion by posting informative stuff. These thoughts are still open for feedback and discussion. Do check them all out in REVIEWS where it is indicated with an  [E] next to my name.

OFFBEAT STUFF

There is this one section in here that features offbeat stuff that are not entertainment based. The section is known as FUNN STUFF [COMMENTS & OPINIONS].

PERSONAL FAVOURITES

There are 3 sections in here that contain my personal favourites of all kinds. THE DDGs [COMMENTS & OPINIONS] which features specially made websites by myself with info & all related stuff of my favourite stars or stars I like to talk about, MEDIA & MUSIC FILES [DOWNLOADS] which has my favourite VODs and music files, most of them are taken from Chinese & Korean dramas & movies and some of which I am hosting for my net friends and THE STORYTELLERS [WEBSITES], where you'll find stories written by amateur writers like you and I.

Do check them all out!

Movies to watch
Permanent link Post a Comment

Ahhh finally got my yesasia package in one piece! So happy. So now I have the following movies to watch, apart from some other I bought at Jusco video shop on recommendation by you all my friends ..

1. American Psycho (MUST NOT WATCH in front of my mom, more effective than any Malaysian censorship board)

2. Grave of the Fireflies (you recommended it! I really wanted to buy Kiki's Delivery Service and Laputa but opted for this, although VCD)

3. Chopper (MUST NOT WATCH in front of anyone!)

4. Old Boy (Very eager to watch this after watching the excellent Sympathy For Lady Vengeance).

So you can expect reviews of the abovementioned movies.

Now I am still looking for Newsies and some other Hayao Miyazaki movies to watch. Is Laputa and that Pocco something and that Kiki nice? Feedback very much appreciated.

Newsies is a very 'ulu' movie, not easy to find, ie. not marketable. So far I only know of Amazon.com selling it.

You can by Ghibli Studio anime collection in one boxset in local DVD shops. I buy 2 boxsets (with different animes). So, I have nearly all the Ghibli Studio's animes except the newest one (that Howling Wind or Howling Castle or something).

Kidd, I;ve seen the boxset. But I wonder does each of the DVD come with special features? I bought the VCD version but if I like it enough I'll invest in the DVD version IF there is special feature. Not cheap. Something like RM150 right?

Pearl I saw Newsies in many American websites BUT region 1 only. I don't know if my DVD player or DVD computer can play or not! Not that ulu because I read the DVD treatment given to it by Disney for a supposedly bomb movie was pretty jam packed.

'Ulu' as in it's probably well-known in the States but outside it not many have actually heard of it. Therefore, it's simply not economically viable for distributors to bring them into countries like Malaysia or Singapore cos the market is just too small.

Actually, I'm under the impression that most DVD roms can play region 1 DVDs. Maybe u can try by renting or borrowing a region 1 DVD and see if they work on ur DVD players.

Funn. It depends.

The ones that have been released in US like Princess Mononoke and Grave of The Fireflies have more features. They have interviews, The Making.. and stuff. For the animes that have not been released in US, they either have very little extra features or no extra features at all.

Also, the language option is also different. Some animes have english dub, some don't. But all have mandarin, cantonese and japanese dub.

On Region 1 DVD. I've bought 1 Region 1 DVD unknowingly (at that time I was ignorant of this grading system) and so far, I've not been able to play this DVD in any DVD players yet.
My DVD-ROM in my PC can't read it either.

Porco Rosso is one of my favs. It's light and fun. It was meant to be an inflight movie on Japan Airlines but it became more.

Laputa however is a classic. I recommend...getting them all. :p

I have both the VCD and DVD of Grave of the Fireflies. DVD is just for collection/archival sake, I don't think I can watch it again. Too traumatic...

All DVD players are region-locked. However, for a fee, the shop where you bought the DVD player should be able to unlock it and thus allow DVDs from all regions to play on it. That's how my DVD player is able to play all regions.

For PCs, you can try using http://www.dvd43.com/
